Laura's Housekeeping

I was moving from a rental house on 11/30/16 and the cleaner that I had set up went into the ER the…read morenight before. I messaged 4 cleaners from Facebook groups asking if they could come in the morning. At 6 am I confirmed with a cleaner via Facebook message for $100 flat move out rate. Well I get a phone call from Laura in the middle of me dealing with Uhaul. (I was tired and stressed due to Uhaul truck issues and movers already there etc... pretty crazy.) She said that she could be there at 11:00. I asked her if she is who I CONFIRMED with on Facebook for $100, and she said YES. At 11:00 Laura and crew show up. Well... about half hour later the cleaning lady that I HAD confirmed with showed up and she and I were confused. Since Laura's crew had already been working, I gave this girl $20 for gas because I felt terrible for the misunderstanding. I go inside and try to figure it out with Laura. I asked why she had told me that I had confirmed with her on Facebook for $100 when we clearly did not. She didn't have much of an answer but asked if I wanted her to leave. They were already working so I figured, "How much more can it really be?" and told her to stay even thought I was disturbed by her deception. If I had more time then yes, I would have asked her to leave. I asked her how much she was charging and she asked if she could "get back to me". Like a frazzled, stressed out idiot I said yes. ***My house was 3 bedrooms, single story, 1250 sf!! Small and EMPTY. I will admit that I lived there for 5 years and have dogs, so anything that was behind furniture etc was fairly dirty. I know it wasn't a total piece of cake, but not difficult by any means. (And I had already cleaned the pot shelves and hanging light fixtures! And kept foil in the oven, kept toilets clean etc!) About an hour later it was almost time for me to go with the movers to the new house, and so had to ask how much. So she says... $500!!!!!!! WHAT?! My jaw literally dropped. It was 1:00 pm (had to turn keys in at 5:00) and she KNEW I was stuck and took advantage. She said it would take another couple of hours = 4 hours. She did have a crew of 5 with her... and she used that as reasoning for the outrageous price. My neighbor asked how much they get paid and she said $10 an hour. So... 4 hours x $50 = $200 She would be profiting $300! I was completely sick to my stomach but I had no choice as I had to go. She at least went down to $400 which was still insane but again, I had no choice. I gave my neighbor the money to give to her when she was done as I moved across town and wouldn't be back by that time. Well when I got back to the house I only had literally 10 minutes to run the keys to the Management office and ASSUMED that for $400 the place would be spotless! (Laura had asked for the move out inspection sheet which was awesome, so one would think that it was all taken care of! Right?!) Fast forward to Dec. 19th when I still did not have my deposit back from Management Company. I sent them an email and had another literal jaw drop moment when she says that she was "Waiting for bill from the cleaners." WHAT?!?! She said that there was dog hair in the tracks and the blinds. I wanted to vomit. I asked the Property Manager to please send me details so I could tell Laura to try and get a partial refund, as I had a feeling that she would be difficult about this given our interaction. Well it was the holidays and I did not get my deposit/hear back from the Property Manager until 12/30 where she said she would have the inspector send her a detailed list... as I had $150 taken from deposit for cleaning! So I have now spent $550 on cleaning a 1250 sf empty house!I I waited until 1/6 and still didn't have it yet so contacted Laura via text. I showed her screen shots of the emails from Management, and that I was requesting a $150 refund. Her response was that "we did so much for you.. making sure kitchen, laundry, slider etc was clean". My reply was that it was still $400, that she HAD the checkout sheet and had ASSURED me that it would pass inspection." Her reply, "We did everything we can. It was last minute." WHAT??!! Doing everything that you can means you DO YOUR JOB and clean the house. What does last minute have to do with ANYTHING? Then don't take the job! After several texts of the same she then reverted to she doesn't do refunds after a month. I explained that I can't control when the Property Management gets me my deposit and I find out what/how much. She stopped answering. This morning (1/9) I sent her a text asking if her silence meant that her work ethic is non-existent, and if she didn't care about being a good, honest business owner who won't give a partial refund after doing a sub-par job. Her reply was again "I don't do refunds after a month." I repeated that I can't help when the Management company get me my deposit, and that I was waiting for a detailed reason of what needed cleaned. SHE NEVER replied and here we are!
