From "Look East" news today…read more A restaurant where a cockroach was found in a customer's curry has been ordered to close. The insect was found in a chicken vindaloo takeaway from the Dalia Spice restaurant in Cromer last July, prompting a council inspection. A "large scale infestation" of cockroaches was discovered in the kitchen and restaurant, North Norfolk District Council said. The restaurant has been told to close until it receives a safety certificate. Shelina Akhter, who admitted eight food hygiene offences at Norwich Magistrates' Court, had voluntarily closed the restaurant following the inspection. Cockroaches found at Dalia Spice, Cromer Cockroaches were found in the kitchen and dining area of the restaurant The council said inspectors found a "full life cycle of evidence", with larvae and mature cockroaches found at the restaurant on Prince of Wales Road. The customer had written about the experience of finding the cockroach in the curry on TripAdvisor, saying they initially thought it was a "cardamom seed" from the rice. "We all stopped eating immediately and phoned the restaurant to complain," the review says. "The restaurant owner quickly come around to inspect the cockroach... issued a full refund and took the ugly little beast away." The restaurant reopened after passing an inspection but evidence of cockroaches was found at a subsequent visit. Ms Akhter, 39, of Canada Road, Cromer, was given a conditional discharge for two years and told to pay £50 compensation to the customer, £3,662 in costs and a £15 victim surcharge. I notice the scores on the doors is still a Zero.
