Only 3 stars because it's not an actual "dog park". It's not fenced in but it is an off leash area. So hopefully your dog is trained not to run away. There is also no water fountain for dogs. There is a small play area for children and a fenced in garden in the same area as the "dog park". I couldn't find it at first I was walking around the whole park until I finally asked someone. It's hidden, up on the hill. Take the stairs near the skatepark and soccer fields. read more

Yes, as the others mentioned, this playground has it all... Or at least the park behind it does. Basketball, tennis courts, soccer, baseball, a playground... There's a SLUG (League of Urban Gardeners) area too, so if you sign up way in advance, you might get your own plot of gardening land! You can take dancing lessons in the evening on Tuesdays at the community room by the parking lot, or join in the tai chi at the cement by the basketball hoops over the weekend. Only the playground is not dog-friendly. The rest of the park is great for walks. It's connected to McLaren Park, so really - you've got plenty of space to roam. And for the skaters in the house, there's a ramp on the other side of the park down Geneva towards McLaren. Gotta love my neighborhood park! read more

Anyway. reading these reviews bums me out! This was the SPOT back in the day. Dudes pushing around popsicle carts, dude's pushing around mango carts, taco trucks, you name it. My sisters and I would run around here like crazy kids buying all this stuff and would later suffer with mango food coma's and burnt out from the extreme sugar high. This place was home on Saturdays. I bet it was a nice quiet ride home. One of the funniest things I remember is my mom covering our eyes and telling us not to turn around while sitting in the bleachers because my dad's soccer teammates were back there whizzing. Ok, so, it wasn't the prettiest park ever. Where was I going with this? Oh yah. Run over by a bike. Since there would be no whizzing behind the bleachers by the V----- girl's, we trekked our happy asses to the bathrooms located on the other side of the park. They were in a sort of alley under some huge stone step/bleacher thing. Walking, mom, sisters, alley. Bike is approaching, I'm little, I do that weird zig zag thing you do when you are face to face with people, and dont know where to go. "go this way, no this way" ........too late. Blackout. I'm on the ground. Bloody nose. The End Run over experience or not, I still have to give this place the props it deserves. I am pretty sure that experience alone is where I got all my street cred. read more

You can also find a small skate park, children's playground, and a staffed recreation center with ping pong tables. This playground is near my home at the bottom of South Hill Blvd., and it's still in need of fixing! Despite new artwork and tiles, which are cosmetic fixes anyway, there is work to be done. The Neighborhood Parks Council released its SF playground report card a few months ago, and not surprisingly, the two parts of Crocker Amazon playground got a D and an F. I know I'm not the only one who looks at equipment status! read more

It's a love hate relationship honestly: 1.) The "dog play area" is eh. I mean its mostly dirt, tiny, and is not fit for open space. I tend to avoid this and just use the lawns if they're empty. 2.) The dog commuity here is pretty good. Once in a while you run into a crazy dog owner who doesn't know when to leash their dog and prevent them from biting other dogs. 3.) Tons of soccer field which are usually packed. 4.) Not the safest place to go when it gets dark, limited visibility and I wish they had more lights. read more

The baseball diamonds are in shitty shape but this is one of the few SF fields with an outfield fence. FYI: the ball carries out to left field on diamond #1. Either that or my HGH injections are really working. read more

This is my every morning activity to the dog park with cola and who else I'm dog siting. I love it! It's definitely kid and dog friendly! It's a BIG park. I just wish people pick up their dog's poop and DON'T throw the garbage on the ground. I can see park service everyday to maintain the environment. I would help whenever I can! read more

You know, the one thing about Excelsior District, is that it is lively. There is music, art, and many laughs to go around. At night, drive past many futbol players and soccer games. The park itself, is large. Multiple fields around but where in the world is this so called dog park? No enclosed area where the dogs can play? Is it upstairs where the greenhouse is and the small children's playground? There are signs to say keep dogs on their leash, but nothing about where this dog park is. I was disappointed. read more

Great place for an early morning walk while the asian ladies do tai chi or fan dances or??? I dont know what they are doing exactly but it sure looks cool. Very entertaining. The kids like the playground and I taught my older one how to ride his bike here. There is a good flat path for rookie riders in addition to the mini skate pool. read more

Nice park to visit.....when the weather is hot.

1 star for the off-leash dog area. but the park is actually nice. updated playground, soccer fields, bathrooms, bocce court... as for the dog area, mostly big dogs there and at least 2 incidents i know of, which made me stop going to that area with my small dog. my friend was bit by a rottweiler and i had to take her to ER. another small dog was attacked by a large dog. so i just walk along paved path between baseball fields and soccer fields, which is nice. read more

Parked on Geneva, got out, walked past the young lady and gentleman with his pants falling down making out, got to the stairs which were being used by a bunch of young guys smoking and drinking. In the dog area there was just one man with German shepherd off leash. If there had been more dog people, maybe. Decided to leave. read more

It's OK to be normal! No hipsters, freaks, posh people, stinky people. No white people either! I felt so relaxed and at home here I almost fell asleep on the grandstand watching the baseball game. Sure they weren't that cute, but I will stop for a look at any man in a uniform. Especially the big, thick-butted catchers. YUM. I liked that the team was pretty much latino, though they shouted at each other in english and the ump shouted in spanish. it was fun to see the skaters and bikers doing their tricks in the half-pipe thingy. next, on to the bathroom. where else but sf would the handwritten "wet paint" signs from the maintenance man be written in 5 languages? Behind the bathroom was the bocce ball lawn. Another multilingual moment...i sat mesmerized by the old italian men chattering away even though I had no clue of what we were watching or hearing. Uncle Gene pried me away and next we found ourselves at the intersection of Italy and Vienna Streets. We stopped into a catholic middle school basketball game for a few minutes, turned off by the dads shouting commands at their sons. Alas, CAP is so far away and I don't play sports otherwise I'd come back more often. read more

I grew up in this neighborhood and love the fact that they created a new play area for the kids! When I used to play on the swings 25 years ago, it was JANKY! Now it's full of families and smiling faces!! read more

Both my dog and I love it here! This place is huge, grassy, and CLEAN. There's lots of parking, both on the street and parking lot. When I ask my dog "Want to go on a walk?", he responds by running to our garage instead of to the our door, meaning he would rather go to Amazon Crocker for a walk rather than just about our neighborhood. Although I've never used them, the fields and playgrounds all look really nice. There's a smaller basketball court, and even a wonderful garden. It's just awesome to have a park like this near me. read more

Unless, you watch the parks department or DPW clean this place up, do not take your children to the play structure on Geneva. Repeat do not. I tried to take my daughter there once to play, but left a few minutes later becasue the tube slides smelled like piss, and there was broken glass in the sand box. As for the rest of it, couldn't tell ya. Keep your kids away. read more

The Purple Playground has been undergoing a renaissance with a mural art mosaic created and installed by the community - kids, families and neighbors. The project is under the direction of the world-famous muralist Susan Cervantes, the founder of Precita Eyes Muralist, and funded by a grant obtained by Friends and Advocates of Crocker Amazon and the Excelsior (FACE). Since the April reports, the mosaics have been grouted - they do fall off when held only with thinset - and the sandbox will be filled with fresh coarser grain sand that is better for the kids. There is a ribbon cutting on June 21st to reopen the benches and "boat" sandbox and celebrate the pruple playground. For those who find problems at this playground or ANY park or playground, file a PARKSCAN observation so it gets fixed! Remember, the Mayor has CUT gardeners and funding for the parks for the last 3-4 years, so your input to point out these things is appreciated! "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" The swings are NOT broken - fixed as a result of a ParkScan observation again. As for the rubber surface, sorry but that is the USA standard for all playgrounds. read more

Seems like everyone who writes reviews about Crocker plays baseball and softball (I will admit that I know nothing about the playground). I am very sorry for the state of those fields - they are only good if you are a gopher (like the soccer fields were), but the redone soccer fields are amazing (unless it's hot - they turn into ovens). Add the Salvadoran snack shack, and the only thing left before paradise is a nice hot shower at home! Oh, and only 4 stars because there isn't enough parking... read more
