Parrish Street today…read more I stopped in because I needed an item for a last-minute client and this store was within walking distance of where I was working. The apple cider vinegar I purchased was clearly labeled $8.19, but I was charged $11.89 at the register -- $3.70 more than the displayed price. I politely brought the discrepancy to the associate's attention. He told me that management was not there and that he could refund the purchase, but he could not adjust the price to the price displayed on the shelf. Because I actually needed the item at that moment and did not have a practical alternative nearby, I paid the higher price. What disappointed me most was how the situation was handled. Pricing mistakes can happen. But when a customer points out a clear discrepancy, I would expect the business to acknowledge it and make a reasonable effort to correct it -- not simply give the customer the choice of paying the higher price or leaving without the product. To be clear, my concern is not the $3.70 itself or whether I could afford the item. It is the principle. If an item is displayed at $8.19, a customer should not discover at checkout that they are actually being charged $11.89. Customers deserve to make purchasing decisions based on accurate pricing. What made this especially frustrating is that this is a downtown neighborhood market serving an area with limited walkable grocery options. When customers rely on a convenient neighborhood store, accurate and transparent pricing matters even more. Being charged substantially more at the register than the displayed price -- and then being told the only option was a refund rather than correcting the discrepancy -- left me feeling taken advantage of as a customer. I understand that small businesses have expenses and that downtown pricing may be higher than larger grocery stores. That is the business's choice. Charge whatever price you choose -- just clearly display that price so customers can decide whether they want to pay it. I have photos showing the $8.19 displayed price and my receipt showing the $11.89 price I was actually charged. I support local businesses and do not leave negative reviews lightly. This isn't about being unwilling or unable to pay a higher price. It is about accurate pricing, transparency, and how a legitimate customer concern was handled. I sincerely hope management addresses both the pricing discrepancy and how situations like this are handled going forward.

What Trinity Food Mart has got going for it is being the only convenient store located…read moredowntown--specifically by the DIY district. Since I have family that live within a three minute walk to Trinity Food Mart, I have been there several times more then the average person. Trinity Food Mart is where it's at for wine and beer in a pinch, although prices are $2-$3 above most (for example, a six-pack of HopNosh will run $10.59 where you can usually find it for $8.99) but you really can't beat the convenience. So, if you're in a pinch for adult beverages and are headed into North Durham, Trinity Food Mart is the perfect place to stop. They also have milk, bread and the assortment of gas station snacks (although NO half & half!) They've also gotten rid of their 9th Street Bakery goods--so sad! According to the man on staff when I asked, 9th Street is selling to other companies now. So you won't be able to pick up a local cookie or muffin but you can still pick up a banana or a cliff bar!

The owner is really nice and is continually asking what he should carry. The space is not big and the selection is not huge, but we've bought produce, soft drinks and locally made burritos from them. I appreciate that they carry products from local companies. They also have a selection of beer and wine that you can take with you or consume onsite. We would love to get mimosas and hang out at the tables on the sidewalk when the weather gets warm. This is a nice addition to this section of Durham.

Unfortunately, what we received was extremely disappointing. The cake was poorly decorated and looked like very little effort or care went into it. When we brought it up to the baker, she brushed us off and said we could request a refund if we wanted, but that she wouldn't do anything to fix it. The event was only two hours away, and thankfully, the amazing staff at the Whole Foods bakery stepped in and helped us get cakes for 67 people with just an hour's notice. Based on this experience, I wouldn't recommend this Harris Teeter location for cakes, especially if you need something that looks even halfway presentable.
