Clyde did a great and thorough job doing the service maintenance on our heating system today…read more Always pleased with the service and technicians from Groggs!!

We have not had central heat since a week ago, January 14th. I paid $187 for the callout at that…read moretime because it was after 5 pm. On Friday, Jan 17th, at 5ish, a tech finally showed up with the part we were told we needed to fix the furnace. He went to the basement and started working... not too long after that, Amanda heard him loudly say "Oh F-k!" twice! So, she went down to ask him if he was okay - what was happening because she heard him... About half an hour later, he comes to the front door - and stands there while I come down to the house from the office with the front door wide open - the storm door not closed either... he proceeds to tell me that after installing the gas valve (just under $700 and the $187 I've already paid for the tech to tell us what we needed - and BTW no work order, nothing in writing not even a receipt for what I spent on Tuesday.)... We were told the control panel isn't working, so the furnace isn't fixed... I ask, how much will that be? That's $1300 plus labor. (Note the furnace manufacturer's site has the one we need for just over $300, and the gas valve was $233, NOT $600+) I tell the tech I don't have the extra right now. I ask if you all have payment plans. Well, yes, if it's over 2K... wow, but no problem if we combine the gas valve and control panel. He tells us he will go out and make a call to see what we can do for you. HE DRIVES AWAY! I call--nope, after-hours call center--3-day weekend--we're SOL...and that's not all. At about 3 a.m., I was awakened by our basement door banging. I went outside and found that the tech had left the basement door wide open and the lights on! What the absolute H!? Suffice it to say, it's been a struggle... And before anyone says there are unhoused people and probably more families with a similar problem. Yes, that's true, but how we've been treated is NOT okay! I braved the weather on Saturday morning and bought two radiator oil heaters from Walmart. And this was the last straw I received on Tuesday, Jan. 21 2025: I got a text and an email with a link to pay "my past due bill"!! Also, I received a voicemail with the same message within minutes of the email and text. Not. Hey, we know your furnace needs more work, so let's see what we can do for you. Nope, not even close. I called to talk with the general manager, Chris, who called me on Thursday, Jan 16, to let me know that the gas valve didn't come in, but it will be tomorrow, and we will block off time now--which they told me on Wednesday for the Thursday ETA of the part. The funny part is, when we looked at the box the valve came in, it was a UNIVERSAL part - NOT a Rheem part. So they should have had the valve in stock. We can only assume they had no open appointments before 5 pm on FRIDAY! Again, let's make sure there's no way they'll be able to ask for more help or for them to make all this right... It was apparent we were not in a place to spend between 6 and 12 thousand dollars on a new furnace. Why bother with people who don't have that kind of money just hanging around? Additionally, when I tried to get an ETA for the part we needed, I could devise alternate forms to heat our home if it took more than two or three days. I was given the runaround. After I got the invoice, I called them and found that our tech had my husband sign something. My husband and daughter said I would be paying the bill, and his signature was to prove that the tech had been there. No, that was to verify the part was installed and working correctly. The deception and lies flow from that company! After three calls, I finally got to talk with Chris, the general manager. I relayed all this, and besides the "oh yes, it's cold, but it's supposed to warm up tomorrow," he had nothing to say. Well, not really, he told me he would "talk" to the tech. My son-in-law called an independent contractor who is a certified HVAC tech. He knows and does excellent work. He came out and inspected our furnace. What he found was indeed unethical. The valve was lying on the bottom of the furnace because the tech broke the bracket on which the valve was supposed to be mounted. Various parts were lying around on the floor and at the bottom of the furnace. He also told us we could get a Rheem, the same model we have, for $3200, which includes installation, a 10-year warranty, and a one-year warranty for labor. Grogg's new furnace costs were between six and twenty thousand Dollars! I have not attempted to talk with Chris or anyone else at Grogg's. I see no reason, based on how badly we've been treated.

He started out great, except for his price. I paid it even though it was about 20 to 25% higher…read morethan most. This was a whole house rewire on a 900 sq ft. The walls were stipped to the studs, and there is a full unfinished basement, so it was easy access. Still, i paid him over $9200.00. He did very good mostly, until I asked him to correct the placement of a dishwasher outlet. For a fee he would. I already paid someone else to move the outlets for the range and the microwave, but thought he should do this one with no added cost. Placement of appliance outlets is something any electrician should know...I looked it up and they are all the same. Also, this guy also asks you to give him a tip a on every invoice. I find this very insulting to low income waiters, hairdressers, and others who are traditionally tipped. I also dad to clean up after him. Now I'm wondering if he did everything else okay or if my house is going to burn down. Just read the response. I paid the tile guy about $8000 for a tub sized shower. There are places where the grout is missing, lots of tiles are NOT flush, a hole was put in the aluminum trim, the front of the shower is about an inch out of square, the light fixture in the shower was not fully installed, and there are some chipped tiles. No..not happy, but I paid him. I belive a customer has the right to expect a good job, and the tile was not. Rhododendren Electric did a good job, but their follow through is bad. And he will do everything possible to avert a negative review, which mine is not...just middle of the road. Just downgraded due to his false and slanderous response. Really, he's an okay electrician, but he seems much more concerned about his yelp review than he does about satisfying his customers. And, his response was reprehensible.
