    Classic frontage.

What a fantastic gem of a movie theatre this is. Vintage deco at its best, from the classic neon frontage to the art deco ceiling and chandelier inside, it's worth visiting just to have a look at the auditorium. It's been recently restored thanks to a $2 million anonymous donation so it's looking pretty good. The auditorium is, unusually, octagonal in shape. the balcony is quite shallow and divided into separate compartments, the centre three seating 8 in two stepped rows with long tables in front, the side boxes seating 9 in 3 rows. The compartments have dividing walls between them and a curtained entrance at the rear, but they have a clear view of each other so if it's privacy you're after pick the extreme side ones. They also have a little snack bar on the upper level selling food and alcohol - very civilised! The stage looks like a proper stage, and I would have loved to have been able to have a look round there to see what it was like. As the screen looks like just a drop at the front of the stage, I did find myself wondering if the place was originally opened as a theatre. The ceiling and chandelier are wonderful deco artworks, and subtle deco touches can be seen all over the place, down to the end panels of the seats in the stalls. The balcony is quite a way from the screen so you won't find this as immersive an experience as your local multiplex. I also thought that the sound system wasn't quite up to normal cinema standard - although they do have surround speakers installed, I found the centre speaker a bit mushy at times and it was hard to make out some of the lines in the dialogue. But that's a small price to pay. You're here for the ambience, the vintage experience and the feeling of soaking up some 30's era glitz. Such a wonderful building deserves your support. Revel in it.

Really awesome place. Old fashion theater from the 30s. They have movies here along with other live events. The place is beautiful, a gem from the past. I got myself the balcony seat and enjoyed sitting up high with a great view for the show. They serve alcohol, along with the usual movie fair of popcorn, soda, and candy. I saw a great movie in a great theater and it made all the difference. If you are in Bar Harbor dont miss out on this. Its non profit and a whole lot cheaper than any regular movie theater.

Snacks and beers in the balcony!

Perfect spot if the weather is not cooperating in Bar Harbor. Pay the extra buck to sit in the balcony. My wife and I had a blast ordering a couple Allagash Whites and enjoying popcorn in basically our own balcony section. If you are into cool old theaters, definitely check out this place. It's also fun if you need something to do to pass time in Bar Harbor.

Great restored venue, excellent show. Just happened to be walking by, on vacation and saw the marqui for Bob Marley.

Great small, intimate venue for live shows and movies. We love that it's right in our town.

This last experience was a couple days ago to watch the Nosferatu movie and the movie started. They didn't close any of the doors or even turn the lights off. The light wash on the screen was awful, as you can see in the video clip. I also was sitting in the back in a chair that was busted listening to the movies across the hall because all of the theater doors are open. I went out and shut the doors for the theaters right around our and then the doors for Narato so that I can actually listen to the Nosferatu movie not every other movie that had allowed crash bang audio track. Not a lot of options around and the theater is not bad, it's just I was left unimpressed. Also, the popcorn gives me a major stomach ache

The ladies at the counter where okay, not over the top but also not bad. The popcorn was good but super salty. Now, I had read some of the reviews before coming and I was afraid about having a bad experience like some said they did but for my surprise I had a regular time in a regular cinema! THE LIGHTS WHERE OFF!!! And THE DOORS WHERE CLOSED!!! Lucky me lol. The sit was a little hard but also the movie was somewhat long. And for last, the bathroom smell good and looked decent.

We drove here from Bar Harbor on a rainy day to see Top Gun. The next day was rainy so we drove…read moreback to see Jurassic Park! Overall, the facility was clean and well kept. The ticket sellers were friendly. The seating could not be purchased beforehand and it was pretty packed. One thing: the first movie we went to had a series of 'commercials' which ran for a good 10 minutes at the start time of the movie. This was followed by another 10 minutes or so of coming attractions. It just seemed a little odd that the local commercials (volume MUCH too loud for some) would not be played as folks were waiting for the film to start (ie. before the start time of the film). There was one for a seat belt PSA which showed a mom being greeted by a trooper to say her son was killed; it was a little much for some of the patrons who complained loudly. Interestingly, this PSA, although relevant and a needed reminder, was not played the second day. Popcorn was good, but not hot. Seats were comfy. Overall, it was a nice way to spend a few hours during a downpour. There's a great restaurant, Timber, nearby which we'd highly recommend.

Well, driving up to the theater complex was not promising, with a parking lot that was barely asphalted, and a building that truly looked like a warehouse masquerading as a cinema, with a façade that didn't even have a marquee, much less anything appealing to lure anyone inside! (See my pics.) Inside, the entryway was dull and out-of-place, with a handful of sad-looking arcade machines -- do kids even have an interest in these antiquated thing-a-ma-jigs?!?! Anyway, no one was making use of any of it. We paid for our film at the concession stand. I always buy popcorn and soda, no matter what movie I see (or even if I just had lunch prior to the film!), just because.... That said, their popcorn was lackluster, but edible. Tom Cruise was delegated to one of the back theaters (there were only us two for the entire film!); it wasn't looking promising.... The house itself was very basic like any other mainstream theater complex: rectangular room with a flat, rectangular screen. Surprisingly, the seats were very comfortable, roomy, with a lot of legroom. (It made the film immensely more enjoyable!) Unfortunately, there was a lot of "bleeding" of soundtrack from adjoining houses -- not horrifically, but it was there throughout, even with all the explosions in our film. Overall, I will say that we probably will drive a little further to Orono for any future films; nevertheless, our experience at Movie Rocket was decent and OK. (And, too, it was cheaper in Orono for matinees....) ;)
