My favorite spot in Sanger. Food is amazing and their pan dulce is authentic. Their red beans are addictive!

Absolutely love this place. I would drive about 25 minutes just to get the pan dulce. Not only do they have baked goods, they serve other dishes as well. Usually, I am able to find parking right in front of the bakery. There are tables to sit and take a quick bite. On the bread, you grab a tong to get the bread. Easy peasy. read more

Very local Latin style bakery with hot meals too. On the Sunday I went it was busy. Don't expect a quick in & out experience. The lines are long. Lots of customers eating menudo on a Sunday morning. We got 1 cherry fruit pie pastry and it was sooo tasty. Not dry at all. Also got 2 burritos; 1 breakfast chorizo/egg and 1 beef/bean. Both really really good burritos. This is a small independently-owned Mexican bakery in the heart of downtown Sanger. They have a mix of pan dulce, merchandise, & some plates of hot food for purchase. It's a bit crowded with things they have collected over the years but it gives it a nice feeling of nostalgia. The pan dulce is serve yourself. I was not a fan of the pan dulce at all. Everything was very crunchy. I am used to a mix of crunchy and soft baked goods in Mexican bakeries but even the muffins were on the crunchy side. Everything had the same flavor too. I tried 4 different baked goods and the flavor was the same-dry with the taste of sugar with flour. I ended up throwing out the baked goods before finishing them. However, the hot food items are delicious which largely balances out the baked goods. My husband loved his large torta. I enjoyed my large burrito with beans, rice, & cheese. The food was very cheap too. My burrito was somewhere between $3-$4 or so. The food is cooked by a grandmotherly-looking lady so it's like going to grandma's house for lunch. If you happen to be in Sanger and are craving some basic Mexican foods like burritos, tamales, & tortas, Cristal bakery is worth a visit. read more

This time I picked up a few baked goods along with 4 tacos, I ask the help which was her favorite and followed suit. Such a wee gem in Sanger. My husband loves coming here for lunch so recently we made some excuses to meet friends in the area and stopped by Cristal Bakery so I could give the menu a whirl. We got the classic BRC (beans, rice, cheese burrito), a carnitas torta, and a tamale. The tamale wasn't the best I've ever had, but the torta was tasty and the BRC was a delicious, indulgent, fatty carb bomb. They have all the classics on their menu and the service is friendly. The main bakery area has tonnes of options of breads and pastries. There's some indoor and outdoor seating, too. Well worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Cristal Bakery is a local favorite and reminds me of my humble upbringing! Cristal Bakery has been there from when my grandparents used to babysit me and we'd get some afternoon pan dulce (with coffee for my grandparents, hot chocolate for me), to the burritos/tacos in my high school years, to now treating my family with pan dulce to catch up when I'm in town from San Francisco. Cristal Bakery have fresh baked, to-drool-for breads/ pan dulce/ cookies/ cakes all day, everyday. They have delicious homemade Mexican food- burritos, tacos, combination plates of barbacoa, carnitas, carne asada... etc. The prices are SO CHEAP for the quality! You can easily walk home with two bags of pan and burritos without spending more than $20! Reposting this, I didn't realize that my app was logged in on the wrong account. I love this place, I can't believe there are only 26, now 27, reviews for this place. When I was little my mom used to get chile verde burritos to take to work for lunch. She would always come back with half a burrito, and put it in the fridge and I would get to have it the next day. I know it's weird, but I love my chile verde burritos cold, it tastes just the same like it used to 35 years ago. The bread, is so good, they have a lot of variety, even some Savory breads, like jalapeno and cream cheese and cheddar and jalapeno breads. The Barbacoa tastes just like the Carnitas used to taste at La Morena, if you know what that means, you know what's up. I would probably recommend you get tortillas from the Mexican supermarket on Academy, they have nice warm ones. Awesome place, I recommend you go there, especially if you're traveling through, going up the 180 or up to Shaver Lake, it's 2 blocks off of Academy, right off of downtown. There's a pretty big parking lot behind it so if you were pulling something it'd probably fit back there, just don't take 7th, take 8th and I'd probably turn right into the alley between N and O streets and go past the post office, you ll see the sign.... I think it's still there, it's really old and I guess I haven't looked up in a while, lol. Oh, they do have summer hours but I forgot what they are, I think they open at 7 everyday, but they close at different times on the weekdays and weekends, I just don't remember at what time they close. Another place I love that is run in one location by a family. I have never had a bad customer experience here as others have said. Walked in the first time just because of the sign. LOVE bakeries and small, one-owner, one location places. There is a whole room full of Mexican bread and pastries. You walk in and grab a tray and tongs (by the front door), then go pick out your pastries and take the tray to the cashier on the restaurant side. First visit I saw a guy with a nice looking torta. So had to try one myself next visits. Did not disappoint. I've had barbacoa and carnitas and both are very good. The carne asada must be good too, because they were sold out of it twice when I ordered it. Tostadas are good, but your plastic fork won't handle it. just hafta pick it up. Bean and cheese burrito was as advertised elsewhere here. Very good and quite filling. Excellent food and great selection of pasties. I'll be regular when in Sanger. read more

I had asked if bread was fresh? the young man said "Yes mam ,made fresh daily " it wasn't! Bread was awfully hard.food was not great. Earlier in the week someone had given bad review on our neighborhood app but decided to give them the benefit of doubt. In these days of the pandemic, he did not use gloves after handling the register, money is dirty. Evan though he did not make the food, he was putting food in bags . Now I even read that he was addressed by his employer about handling money, food without gloves prior to me going in, not true with alot of businesses hurting because of pandemic ,they seem to not appreciate the customer going in. read more

I drove to this bakery because of the reviews. It was out of my way and to say I was extremely disappointed doesn't do my experience justice. I got there about 6:30pm on a Friday. It was empty, I walked in and saw no one initially. When I did see someone he stuck his head out, I said hello, he said nothing. I selected my bread and then went to pay. I waited for him to finish his conversation in the back (he saw me but kept talking). He still said nothing to me. That wasn't the worst part. The bread was the worst pan dulce I've ever had in my life, not exaggerating. It was hard and stale. I tried warming it up a little but that didn't help. Needless to say, I'll never go back. read more
