In addition to spending an entire day with the Cricket cove team at the knitting retreat March 14th, we drove to their main store in Black's Harbour. We spent hours browsing. Donna was amazing she helped us find everything we wanted and more. She even made us tea as we browsed. I wound a few balls so I could get to work right away. I wish I lived closer so we could come and knit in the back room.
The knitting retreat was a professionally run but relaxing event. The first thing we did was pick the colour of our yarn. We got hand dyed knit east yarn by Fleece Artist to use in knitting the Boneyard Shawl by Stephen West. Mona, from the St. John store, taught us shawl techniques. I loved her relaxed approach. We were able to knit and chat with everyone while she systematically worked the room. She caught my error only a row in so I was able to correct it and move on quickly. I felt that she was right there to help if I needed her but did not feel rushed or pressured. It was a lovely way to learn shawl knitting.
Cricket Cove even brought lots if extra supplies for us to browse through. I needed this fibre retreat in the midst of such a winter. Thanks Cricket Cove. I cannot wait for Knit East in the fall! read more
