There was nothing that excited me more than getting a new pair of school shoes at the end of summer for the new term beginning. When I was about 7 or 8, I used to bug my mum to take me here for a pair of shiny new patent dolly shoes, which would be the envy of all my pals on the first day back to Primary School. The best part was the feet measuring machine, which I would jump onto and stand, waiting for the electronic measuring tape to move and for the woman to tell me what size I was. Unluckily, for my Dad's wallet, I was always a half size, making finding and buying shoes difficult and expensive.
I always came to Crichton's shoes for my footwear, right up until I was about 10 or 11 and decided that bright white Nike trainers were cooler.
The shop specialises in the measuring and fitting of shoes, which is fantastic for kiddies who have growth spurts all the time.
Upstairs in here is dedicated to Kids shoes, and downstairs to adults. The shoes are expensive though, at around £25-£40 per pair of shoes for children, which can be seen as a bit excessive. However, they do last and are really beautiful and comfortable, so perhaps worth spending more on something that will last a full term. read more
