The price has absolutely skyrocketed, an exorbitant tip was added on, they couldnt split the check, and after an hour and a half we were asked to leave to turn the table around. And pretty sure that lame excuse of some cookies and mini cupcakes, that were prett bad, was storebpught and a huge disappointment. The Colonel (a big tea aficionado) has been holding board game events there on Saturdays about once a month. I recently had a quick bite of lunch there with a friend. They serve an astonishing number of teas in a variety of cups. Keira will explain everything to tea novices, and you can get single servings, double servings, or a pot. They have white, green, red, black, and herbal teas. Then they have hot grilled cheeses, cold wraps, deli sandwiches, and cookies and brownies for dessert. In addition, they have fun lil tchotchkes for sale, Der Sprossling bought an articulated wooden dragon toy recently for his mantel. Follow them on Facebook to keep abreast of the variety of activities going on, including tarot readings and other New Age events for body and soul. They have off-street parking to the side of the building. It is flat and pretty accessible. They have a bathroom, but I didn't use it, I'm presuming gender neutral/single occupancy because I only saw one door.

Reservations are required for the tea hour which runs on Friday and Saturday from 3-4pm. Its runs about $55 per person and is worth it for the lovely experience of tiers of treats, live piano music, and impeccable service. The menu had about a dozen tea options and listed the items on each tier. We both chose the same unique pear raspberry green tea. The blueberry-lemon and raspberry-white chocolate scones were fantastic! The standouts of the tea. Not to mention, the house-made profiteroles stuffed with blueberry pastry cream, various macarons, hand made artsy caramels, and liqueur-infused chocolates. The finger sandwiches were the typical salmon with dill and cucumber. It was not over the top with extra frills, but for those who love a traditional afternoon tea, this totally hit the spot.

We started with a delicious chilled lavender iced tea that was perfectly balanced not too sweet or overly floral and the Blue Eyes tea, which reminded us of a warm caramel apple. Both were excellent. Our tea service began with a fresh mixed greens salad topped with a strawberry and a lovely house dressing. Then came the tiered tower filled with an assortment of savory bites and sweet treats. My daughter was especially excited to discover her new favorite food: cucumber sandwiches! We finished with a light, creamy blackberry mousse style dessert that was the perfect ending. One thing we'll definitely do differently next time is allow more time and arrive hungrier. We didn't realize afternoon tea included so much food, so we found ourselves rushing a bit to make it to our show. The history of the building made the experience even more memorable. Learning that it's the oldest house and the third-oldest building in Abingdon was fascinating. Over the years it has served many purposes, including being home to a family with ten children and functioning as a Civil War hospital. We especially enjoyed learning that it was one of the few buildings spared from being burned because it cared for wounded soldiers from both sides. If you're visiting Abingdon, this is a charming experience that's well worth adding to your itinerary.

The scone I had lacked a little flavor and the pie crust was good, but the peaches might not have been fully in season to make it as good as I recall peach pie to be. I do believe the fact I waited a day to eat them (was traveling) could have affected the flavors. I think overall the offerings were quite good and would recommend folx give her offerings a try.
