Mango and chocolate crepe for dessert!
Ashley F.

Ordered a chicken, mushroom, and pepper crepe and a shrimp noodle dish. The crepe was far superior to the noodle dish -- which isn't really surprising. The winner of the night was the dessert -- chocolate and mango crepe with ice cream and (I think) home made whipped cream. If I'd had room, I would have ordered another chocolate & mango crepe!

Crepe Amélie at A. Venue Mall

I am not a dessert person so I just won't venture inside Crepe Amélie on my own. Besides, my wife and I are trying to cut down on sugar. Therefore, just by the name itself, my answer to this café is a big no. But my wife couldn't resist the call of crepes. One evening after dinner, she immediately went inside before I could resist. Just by looking at the shop from the outside, I say that a lot of money was spent on the aesthetics of the place. The soft caged yellow lights, red brick walls, wood finish, and black metal borders all exude a vintage atmosphere that makes one want to relax after a hectic day. With the cafe's floor-to-ceiling glass windows, I could only imagine the natural light entering the dining area at daytime. At night, however, the lighting is ideal for lounging and casual talk with family and friends. I didn't order anything this time. I told my wife that I'll just taste whatever she ordered. She had a cup of caramel latte and a Banana PB and Nutella. I had a sip of her coffee and it was a tad too sweet for me, but my wife loved it. The crepe, on the other hand, was really good. Although the combination of banana, peanut butter, and nutella wasn't exactly unique, I still liked it for the fact that it wasn't overpoweringly sweet. I also liked the consistency of the crepe itself. When we visit A. Venue Mall again, I will surely try their cakes made of crepes or maybe their pasta. The cafe is open every day. They close shop at 11:00pm on weekdays and at a much later time on weekends.

Look at all those layers! Green tea crepe cake

Believe it or not, this is actually the first time I've been to A-Venue mall. I've only come from a very delicious dinner from Crying Tiger and my chef-sister suggested Crepe Amelie-- which I hadn't heard of previously. Crepes are one of the few desserts I actually like, because I've had some pretty good ones in the past. Crepe Amelie is apparently popular for the crepe cakes and sweet crepes (although, they do have savory ones on their menu as well, which I have not had the pleasure to try.) We had the green tea crepe cake, which is sweet and delicious, and light on the stomach too. While I would want there to be more green tea flavoring and less of the cream, I rather enjoyed the bits of azuki bean littering each layer of the crepe cake. We also had the smores crepe, and although they didn't have marshmallows anymore, they opted to replace it with a heaping scoop of vanila icecream. A decent swap, if I should say so. I love the fact that Crepe Amelie is very generous with their fillings, which means that for each bite, you're treated to a glorious, oozing center of what seemed to be high quality swiss chocolate.

This would be my second time here. It's a fantastic place to gossip with my girlfriends! They've got assorted flavors of crepes, they have fancy looking coffee, but i must admit i came back for the crepe cake. I got the mousse au chocolate, which is layers of crepe with the thinnest creamy chocolate mousse in between the layers and it's not too sweet and not too creamy. Great dessert, and great hangout place!

Despite the name of the place, they are not exclusively serving French food. They have pasta, steaks, and seafood. If anything, Chateau 1771 is a modern European restaurant serving favorite French, Italian, and Swiss food. When I first visited the place years ago, I was actually anxious about that moment when the waiter would hand me the check. European dining in the Philippines has always been equated with expensive fine-dining. But to my astonishment, the price was actually reasonable. I mean, it's not affordable and one would be crazy or filthy rich to eat in this kind of place every day. But for special occasions, I would recommend this place. My most recent visit was during my wife's birthday. It was a table for two and we had a late lunch. After a few moments of browsing through the menu, she asked for Croquette Salad, while I went for Butter-baked Oysters. For main, she had Vanilla Brick Spring Chicken, or grilled chicken served with vanilla bean dots. I ordered the Potence, the house specialty. It's basically steak where the meat is served hanging from a potence, or metal frame, and then set alight (by the waiter) with brandy. Their Pomelo Fruit Juice is a must try. I would recommend having a reservation when dining at Chateau 1771. While the place typically fills up during dinner, I find it perfect for a late afternoon hangout. The ambience can truly transport you somewhere in Europe.

You know how other shops have fresh fruit shakes but when you drink it it just tastes like sugar? Well, Chateau 1771's shakes are fresh, cold and it's the actual fruit. Oh, their flambeed coffees are amazing. Try their Irish coffee. You'll want more. For dessert, it doesn't matter whether you order a Creme Brulee or a Coffee Bean Sansrival. All of their desserts are excellent.

Being Half French, I take my baguette, croissants and "pains au chocolat" quite seriously (especially when I get my cravings hehehe) and I can tell you that they are the BEST in town!! Restaurant: It's a nice cozy little place to have a simple yet delicious meal whether it is for breakfast, lunch or merienda. It's a self-service place, so you have to go to the counter to order and pay. They will then bring your order to the table. I got there quite often and see a lot of regulars whom seem to go there quite often too; which I find nice :-) Service: The service is very good. The people working there are polite and friendly. And the service is pretty fast. Food: Like I have mentioned earlier, Paris Delice has the best French pastries and bread in town! They taste the same as the ones you find in France. They also serve delicious sandwiches and a wide variety of fresh salads with home-made dressings. For breakfast, I usually get a Cafe Latte with a croissant and a "Pain au Chocolat". Here's a tip: The croissant or "pain au chocolat" is best eaten when dipped in the Cafe latte ;-) For lunch, it's a nice healthy salad with a sandwich. My favorite sandwich is The New York, L'italien and the Lillois :-) I would definitely recommend this place for a delicious simple meal. And if you are in a hurry (like I often am...), you can take your order To Go. Another great thing about this place? They deliver!! So if you want to have a French breakfast before heading out but you still have to get ready or you are lazy to go out, just give them a call and the yummy french food will be delivered to your door step in no time :-)

They only make 6 pieces a day which is odd, but hopefully more in the near future, as we certainly aren't the only fans. If you have time to splurge, suggest staying for a cup of their Hot Chocolate (190 PHP) it's served in a pot (330 ml) which is enough for 2 cups. Share it with a friend or simply indulge in the chocolatey goodness. Staff are courteous and efficient. Water is refilled timely and sometimes even before you even ask. First timers be at ease as the staff can explain fully the products they offer. Here's a tip: 50% off on all their goodies starting 9PM daily, but be quick you're going to be competing with the nearby residents for the little supply they have. We've dined here twice and when 9PM strikes the store is invaded and devoid of pastries in under 15 minutes, talk about a quick sale.

A former boss of mine told me that he really enjoyed the food there, and I remembered that 3 years later, when I was deciding where to take Grace on that all-important occasion. I made a reservation about 2 months in advance, just to be sure. I specified that it was going to be a proposal, so I made sure that they got me a booth instead of a table in the middle of the restaurant. I told them that at some point, I'd be asking a member of the staff to take pictures and videos, which they willingly agreed to. The day itself came, a few days before Grace's birthday so she would think it was just a birthday dinner. The staff were all smiles when we entered; they all knew, and they were excited for us. Our 7-course meal started, and it was all perfect. Seeing Grace's face light up with every bite she took just made me more excited for what was to come at the end of the meal: the moment I was gonna ask her to be my wife.

She was apprehensive at first because when she Googled about the restaurant, it said that students of International School for Culinary Arts and Hotel Management (ISCAHM) will be the ones cooking in the kitchen. I assured her that just because they're students doesn't mean that they don't know what they're doing. I was right! We started off our date with a French staple, escargot. The snails were swimming in butter and I envied them in that instance. We saluted their valiant sacrifice as we gobbled them up one by one. For the main course, she had steak and I had the sea bass with risotto. For my dish, the serving could have been bigger but it was as delicious as it can get. All in all, dining in Aubergine was a delight and something we'll definitely do again in the future.
