Yes, there are new owners and yes there were a few hiccups but I want to give them a chance to get up to speed with how they manage the process. There are a lot of groups that have been coming up there for many years and I'm not doubting they had some valid concerns, all I can do is speak from our experience of having 72 guys playing over 3 days and how accommodating they were to us. It definitely took more communication leading up to the event to make sure both parties were comfortable and confident expectations were met on both sides. Once our "tournament" started everything ran smoothly. I'm confident that they will reflect on their first season and refine some things, I know we're going back next year, and I hope the other long-term groups that had issues will give them another chance. If you've never been there and you're looking to bring a group of guys up there, keep your expectations realistic. This is not Whistling Straights, it is a family-run operation that provides a basic golf course, acceptable (but dated) accommodations and a great bar that is on premises. I for one want them to succeed

The hotel room, I'm not sure what to call it. More like a murder scene with chalk lines that just got washed up. Resort is a lost cause at this point I'd just close it down and hopefully expect for a bankruptcy filing. Don't waste your money or your time. Both are important. Neither one of them will you be happy with wasting any time ever here?

We had a few last-minute changes with our group size, and your staff was very flexible and accommodating throughout. With a mix of newer golfers and more experienced players, pace of play was a bit slower at times, but everyone was patient and understanding, which we really appreciated. The staff inside the clubhouse was excellent. The waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and the food was great. The check-in process in the pro shop was just as smooth--everyone was helpful and welcoming, and even assisted us with setting up some individual games for the round. We also appreciated how seamless everything felt from start to finish. The communication was clear, the setup was organized, and it made the entire day easy for our group. We had about 20 people participate, and everything ran smoothly despite the size of the group. The golf course itself was beautiful. If you're in the Madison area, it's definitely a course worth playing. We've been doing this outing for a couple of years now, and this was by far our best experience. Towne Country Club is an interesting golf course. Located in the heart of Edgerton, it's actually…read morepretty well hidden. Even turning onto Jenson St., you're not sure if you're there. It helped that I saw some golf carts buzzing around an undersized parking lot. Checking in is easy - the staff are quite friendly and helpful. Inside, the clubhouse looks to have gone through some renovations, but we didn't spend much time inside. The course itself - so much to say. First, I don't think I'd want to walk it. The holes themselves aren't bad. Yardage wise, the course isn't terribly long (par 34/36).. But the layout would be a tough walk. There is quite a hike between a few holes - I wish I had grabbed a scorecard so I could say for sure, but there were a few "pleasant drives" in the cart to some tee boxes. I don't know if they could rearrange the layout to balance it out more - I'm sure they've thought of that. There were some interesting holes - the rolling layout keeps you thinking, and can hind some features you may not know about. Some of the par 3 holes are longer (I think one was nearly 230 yards). Some par 4 holes are shorter - tempting you to drive it. You'd think the course would be easy with those holes, but narrow fairways and tight turns make you lay up more than you probably want to. I'll chalk up a few of my strokes today as "I'da scored better had I been more familiar with the layout"... The front 9 is more wooded. The back nine is a little more open. The TL;DR of it all - if you're not consistently straight off the tee, this course could frustrate you. Stray shots will punish your score. Otherwise, it's a pretty course with some character. I'd golf it again, I suspect, but with all the other options in the area, and closer to me, it probably won't be a frequent stop for me.

The people: Kelly, the event coordinator, was not only extremely helpful, organized, and on top of every last detail, but is also just a wonderful woman who I am glad could be a part of our day! She clearly loves her job and I never once felt like "just another bride," even though we were already her third wedding that month. It felt like our wedding was as special to her as it is to us. Tim, bar manager, is there during weddings and closes out the night. He also went above and beyond to take care of us and our guests. The space: Talk about beautiful! The ceremony space looked out over Lake Kegonsa, with a lovely dock and trees which frame, but don't obscure, the view. Lots of great opportunities for photos! We chose not to go onto the green since there were nice backdrops around the building, but couples who would like to should know that only the couple and photographer are allowed onto the green for photos. The building is very nice, and new flooring had been put in right before our wedding. We had 90 people at our wedding, and we fit very comfortably with some room to spare. The décor is neutral enough not to compete with your decorations, but otherwise has a very supper club kind of vibe. The food: HOLY SMOKES! I don't think a single plate went unfinished. We were blown away at our tasting, but I was curious if they would be able to duplicate that high of quality when producing dinner for nearly 100 people at once. They did! Everything came out efficiently, hot, and delicious. We served the tortellini alfredo, the chicken dutchesse, and prime rib. I also appreciate that they made sure our head table was served first so that we got plenty of time to finish our meal before we got pulled away by all the glass clinking and congratulations! The value: Given how wonderful everything was, we got the value of a lifetime! There were also other "perks" thrown in, such as a social membership for the two of us and a free round of golf that morning.

Lived in Stoughton 27-years, across the country club. We finally bought a social membership, we…read moredon't golf. It was nice to have somewhere close to go and see our friends and neighbors. The issue we have is that there is no reasonable value. The prices are just as high as any nice restaurant but since we pay a membership fee, we would think there would be some benefit of better prices considering the quality of food. The food is inconsistent as well as the service. I've had burned pork chops. Picnic style salad bar that reminds me of a roadside diner. Dry burgers, cold fries. We have waited half an hour for food at times. They run out of fish on a Friday. We were seated recently on time at our table which really is nice as it overlooks the lake. But then we got a basket of hard , dry and tiny dinner rolls with no side plates. Were we supposed to butter them on the table? We waited 20 minutes and no one came for our order. There were only six tables seated--- So we left. On top of that, we are now having to pay a monthly fee to cover repair costs for the retaining wall and that will cost as much as the yearly membership fee. So the cost is double. We do get a "customer appreciation" pulled pork dinner with music on the patio, which is really nice. But, where is the value? We will not renew our membership and we are not alone.

I've been golfing Deer Valley for many years, and I love it there - it's my "go to" course,…read moreespecially when I can't find a great deal on something else. First, Deer Valley is an affordable course. I love to golf, but can't afford to shell out top-shelf prices for a round. HOWEVER, Deer Valley isn't exactly a cheap "hacker's course". There's a wide variety of hole styles to keep your attention, highlighted by their signature par-3 #5 that takes you 120 yards out, but straight down to a soft green. The view is intimidating, but it's a hole you could shoot at for hours. Immediately after #5, you're challenged to drive over the rocky, steep face that you just came down. There are holes with blind tee shots over hills, hard dog-leg turns, and plenty of terrain to navigate. I haven't even mentioned hole #1 - a long par 5 up a big hill (and almost always into the wind). Once you get past that hole, the rest doesn't feel too bad. Deer Valley is extremely scenic with tee boxes overlooking vast valleys. In the fall, the colors are breathtaking. Being removed from the big city, it's one of the most peaceful courses I've been on. Keep an eye on your ball, but don't forget to take in the scenic views and watch for wildlife! It's beautiful there! The new "Valley" nine is nice, but I still like the Ridge and Prairie best. Valley is a little tighter and most of the holes run in, you guessed it, the valley... Definitely a course worth hitting. If you're a prude and want to be addressed as "Mister", have your clubs cleaned by some high school boy working for tips, go somewhere else. If you're looking for a course that is great bang for the buck, to hang out with some friends and have a great time - hit Deer Valley.

The…read more#12 par 3 is great - a short hole, usually under 100 yards, but you have to flop your shot over a big oak tree in front of the green. You don't see that very often. Also, watch for the correct green on #1 - as you come down the fairway, you'll see #16's green straight ahead, a little to the right, while #1's green is off to the left a bit. Don't be fooled! The course is kept up nicely. I was there early this spring - even after rainfall - and the course was in great shape. The fairways weren't chewed up yet, and the greens were healthy and sleek. I had a small issue last time out - not with the course, however. My son and I had a foursome roll up behind us on the 9th tee with poor etiquette (playing their radio loudly at the tee box while we were trying to tee off, among other things). At the turn, the folks in the clubhouse asked how our round was going and I mentioned that group. We weren't bothered for the rest of the round, so they seem to have handled it. Based on that, as well as how we were treated when we arrived, I would say the staff are great! Very friendly and they care that you enjoy your round properly. I really wish this course were closer to home - it's about an hour drive for me. But if I find the right deal, it's worth the drive.

There's quite a few tables and chairs, but even so on a busy summer evening it might be full. As good as the food is here, the service can be a little iffy, and the bar service can be very slow. This evening three of us ordered gin and tonics which came without limes in them. This is like sacrilegious to gin and tonic drinkers. You shouldn't have to ask for limes in this drink. The other thing that was irritating is that salt and pepper was not on the table and butter did not come with the entrées which included baked potatoes. It was brought on request but it's just odd that they wouldn't have have these things on the tables already. Our waitress was a high intern so we went easy on her and hope she learned something from us. We still tipped her well. That said it's a great Wisconsin fish fry place and worth stopping for.
