I am very sad that I am compelled to write a negative review which is not something I normally do. So last year we moved to this area and I researched a veterinary service for our horses I was pleased to find this group. We had our fist emergency handled by Dr. Colburn who sent someone out to see us immediately and we were very happy with the outcome. Our second emergency happened a month ago and was handled by one of the younger vets. My horse had gotten out of his pasture and hit a rake and somehow the handle of the rake went into his sheath. The doctor RX'd bute and to give it twice a day for 4 days, do cold water soaks and walking. We completed the regimen and phoned the vets office as our horse was not improving. That is when we met Dr. Richardson. He took over the case and assessed our horse and stated to continue the regimen for another 7 days as he felt the other vet had not given things enough time to resolve. We continued as instructed and still there was not much improvement, Dr. Richardson came out and told us to continue the regimen and that our horse had most likely torn his right hind adductor muscle and it would take 6-8 weeks to heal. Mind you there had not been any testing other than blood tests at this point even though I had asked if we should do an ultrasound or something and his response was that it would not show anything. The last couple of days my horse was declining again, swollen and not able to walk. I reached out to Dr, Richardson who stated that his injuries may have been worse than we had thought and that we may need to consider humane euthanasia. I was shocked that he had said this, let alone in a text. My husband and I decided to get a 2nd opinion and took his to San Luis Rey Equine Hospital where he was diagnosed with a severe encapsulated inguinal abscess. They admitted him and started him on antibiotics and did surgery to remove the abscess and now is recovering at their hospital and will make a full recovery. How can a doctor with his experience not do imaging to try and come to a diagnosis? He was suggesting I put my horse down without a diagnosis and the only testing being labs! He washed his hands of my horse as if he was not worth the time or money. My horse, just like most equestrians feel about their horse, is priceless! So with this being said, I can not continue with this man treating my horse and would never recommend him as a vet to anyone. Also I was approached by a friend and she has also had a very negative experience with the same vet last year. I know this is long, but it is worth reading when you are researching for someone to care for your equine. read more
