I've read the other reviews and was also a resident of iron horse campground over the 2015 rally. That year was exceptionally rainy-EVERY campground with a dirt road was a hazard, there was no getting around it. Other campgrounds had backed up sewage in their showers for the entire rally. The staff at Iron Horse, however, have always kept the showers and bathrooms in very clean condition. There is a lower shower/ bathroom and small laundry area on the lower level near the mezzanine with 3 toilets and 3 showers. The upper level has maybe 16 toilets and 10 showers (I've never stood there and counted them) and also several co-ed showers. Obviously, when it's a rally # ending in 5 or 0, there will be a higher demand on camping spaces. 2015 was the 75th rally. Rick and the staff at Iron Horse, in my honest opinion, went above and beyond to ensure the safety of their patrons by bringing in additional dirt for the roadways, diverting routes when necessary. On a yearly basis we've enjoyed quiet camping, great music, the basic amenities you need and several we didn't know we needed-it's pretty nice being able to drop off my jacket with my newest patches at the booth right next to the mezzanine and knowing they would be done quickly and correctly and at a good price for the service. We've not ever had any incidents of anyone tampering with our belongings or theft from other campers. We've only been coming here for the last seven years, 2020 being our 8th but we do feel like we're amongst friends and family. We've made some lifelong friends each and every rally-to me that's what the rally is all about-the epic rides are an amazing bonus! Is the price of ice higher than at the grocery store? Yes! It is! But we also don't have to carry it on the bike in the august heat. I personally don't feel the food at the mezzanine is price gouging. They're less expensive by far than the get-ups in town and it won't give you the runs. The one star review should be striked because it's ridiculous. The weather was insane that year-I don't think Rick was out of line charging $80 for a cabin. I would've been happy to be accommodated on site instead of having to hunt down a motel-and learn the TRUE meaning of price gouging! The iron horse is amazing but they are also a business, not unisef!

Their small store has almost anything to accommodate you too. It's a convenient location near the Beaver Bar, a bus stop is nearby to take you into town if you plan to drink responsibly and not ride. I would definitely recommend this place!

Biggest disappointment ever. Won't ever stay here again. Hopefully somebody buys this place and revamps and reinvests in it. Because it has potential and 20 years ago was probably pretty cool.

Marcus was always answering texts very speedily, sorry Marcus, I know I was a pain the first hour, texting you with so many questions. The camp was clean, the tents were convenient and efficient, and I liked the common area with fireplaces to hang out with fellow riders, also to get your morning java and charge your phones through the day. Also the light path to the tent was a great idea, especially if you need to go to the special, clean and locked toilets just for our guests, in the middle of the night. This place was much nicer and cleaner than the Buffalo Chip Campground. We wish we would have stayed here instead. Pulling into the property on the motorcycle, you have to actually drive through the bar, and out the back to get to the parking area. As mentioned by another reviewer, this bar is actually more of a pole building with a bar inside, but so are most of the other bars in the area (Beaver Bar, Full Throttle Saloon, Buffalo Chip, etc.) The bar was clean and fun. They have a stage for live entertainment, but had recorded music playing while we were there. Visitors are allowed to visit and use the pool area. The pool area looked very clean and relaxing while we were there. There are a couple bars located in the pool area. I'm not sure if this bar/campground is open year round or only during the motorcycle rally. From whatI could see of the campground, it looked clean and well organized. This place appeared to be smaller and quieter than other campgrounds in the area. We did see some nudity around the pool area, so this campground probably isn't suitable for children during the motorcycle rally!

In the interest of full disclosure I will explain I did have bike troubles (exploded rocker box) that was not thier fault, and in fact the main criticism was the weather, also not under the control of the BS management. But anyone who has visited this area in august will know that the weather can be unpredictable. So why build a campsite on the top of a mesa, with no shade and nothing for at least a couple hundred miles to shield against the constant 40 to 60 mph winds. The heat of the sun was unbearable, but sun shades and easyups were just torn apart. At the end of the week there were more easyups in the dumpster than left standing. The management even started warning RV owners to not use thier awnings. And the wind was constant, all day, every day. On the positive side they do have a great pool, children not allowed due to "adult" activities. The pool was the only saving grace of a terrible week. The other problem is you are 11 to 12 miles out of town. They do have a small general store but expect to pay $3.50 for a small bag of ice and $15 for a 12 pack of bud light. The on-site bar is pretty good and the entertainment about average for Sturgis, there is better in town, but again the bar pricing is set knowing they have a captured clientel. The shuttle bus in to town is OK but timing is not the most convenient and another operation "da Bus" is better and calls at a lot of other campsites with a more frequent service. The site is "raw" there is no grass, more like scrub brush and dirt which turned into a dustbowl. The staff were courteous and helpful, the showers and bathrooms kept clean. But the positives were no way enough to make up for the terrible location. I will not return, and that was a pretty consitent refrain heard around the campsite.
