In February, I posted a highly negative review of CU1 on my experiences since they merged with ILCU. I stand on every word in that complaint. However, since that review, my rating of them has increased dramatically. A representative responding to my critical Yelp post took it seriously, two customer service reps contacted right after, they were sympathetic, gave me their contact info to avoid the call center, and dealt immediately with issues under their control. CU1 continues to work out the bugs. I am now a happy camper! I also stressed at that time (I hope) that my issue was with the CU1 merger, and not with the DeKalb (IL) staff. I've been with them for nearly 40 years and with no exceptions they are A+++ user-friendly, helpful, and it's fun to see their cheery faces. My only complaint is that they stopped serving popcorn. Do not do business with this credit union ! I have been trying to close my account with them for over a week . The tellers tell you incorrect information .I have been in there 4 times trying to close my accounts .I paid off my credit card when I closed the account .CU1 keeps putting charges on a card I locked when I closed my account .Today will be the fifth time I have to go in and deal with this horrible bank .Why because they have now put a 30 $ charge for insufficient funds on a paid in full account That should be closed.If you value your credit score do not do business with this credit union because they will try and destroy your credit when you close your accounts with them . CU1 has terrible customer service, their centralized call center is D-, their policies and practices have degraded from when it was under IL Community Credit Union. Their "message" option on the homepage seems run by low-level AI and there are often multi-day delays in responding to a query. The homepage is not user-friendly, is missing some of the previous online options. Responders at the call center are often ill-informed and unhelpful. The homepage appears to be down or glitched far more than acceptable. The initial rollout of the web platform and records wasn't ready for prime time. I have been with ILCU since it was Sycamore Credit Union, then the ILCU since 1979. The only thing that keeps me closing my account is the wonderful customer service and helpfulness of the current on-site staff - they're wonderful. But, CU1 might motivate me to leave them. When we first moved to Rochelle we had Lincoln State Bank. The women there were cunts and had no customer service skills whatsoever. I switched to ICCU in 2010 and have loved the way I have been treated. Kim Morris is awesome and very helpful. read more

Due to an accident earlier in the year, I found myself in need of replacing the vehicle that had been totaled. I had contacted Kim Morris at the credit union who I had met through several DeKalb Chamber events (I own an area business) and asked for a preliminary opinion several weeks prior to see if she thought I would have a problem with the loan. She said I shouldn't, but qualified it with the statement "based on what she knew about my history" with her branch. Within a week or so, I went to the dealership, worked out the details on their end, enjoying turning down their financing, and called Ms. Morris to let her know I was on the way from St. Charles. By the time I got there, paperwork was done as far ass she could go without the exact numbers (although she did ask me the total on the phone). She had made it for the full amount, not knowing that I was taking some of the insurance from the totaled bike to put down. Without having to rewrite the check, I can't imagine I would have been there more then 15 or twenty minutes, including running my credit., had I been clear on my intention. Within half an hour I did have the check for the loan amount and a bank draft from my account for the money I was putting down. Quick drive back to the dealer and all was said and done. I made the initial call above seem a little less then it may have been. Ms. Morris is used to my paranoia so dealt with a couple calls helping me decide not only if I would finance with the dealer, but working out several scenarios based on a couple different vehicles I was looking at and financing options. The only way I probably would not have financed at ICCU is if they had been significantly higher (they were lower, duh!) or for some reason my credit was somehow goofed up by the accident. Since I had the loan with ICCU on that vehicle and have a reputable insurance company, that was not an issue. On the previous vehicle loan, I had went with what I thought was a phenominal rate and ICCU managed to beat it so I refinanced with them. ICCU has much lower GAP insurance from other loans I have/had looked at as well as other policies (total one vehicle, you start looking at mortality) and products that makes doing the loan with them attractive. While I have my business accounts at another bank (as a credit union they do not offer business products), I do keep my personal account here so payment could not be easier. Would I recommend? Absolutely. I even drove an newer employee over to open an check, savings and credit card account and set up direct deposit. The staff has always been courteous and knowledgble when I have been in and have rarely seen any significant wait. Tellers have occasionally made suggestions to make things easier when working with my accounts. They have conviently located offices, with this and one other within minutes of my home and office. read more

Terrible institution. They never answer or return calls. There website is terrible and when you finally decided you deserve better and want to close your account they decided to charge you for closing. Seriously?! You provide terrible service and then penalized your customers for wanting better?!! Especially when people are struggling financially. Never work with this institution read more

I commend Nicole for such a wonderful job with helping to get myself established with ICCU. She has been nothing but great with helping . I am overwhelmed with how low the interest rates are! Customer support doesn't exist here. Just finished calling three times at 2 in the afternoon, no pick up at all. Not the first time this has happened and it is always a challenge to get any kind of help. Had to order new card, been weeks with no correspondence or help of any kind. Everyone I know who has banked with them says to switch, I might but apparently they charge you for that. Also clerks charged for a check I deposited instead of adding to my account, then charged me an overdraft fee for the money that they wrongly took out. Took me well over an hour and going back twice to get it sorted out. Don't bank here. read more

I have been a member of the ICCU for over 20 years, never 1 payment missed or even paid late. I called to try to defer 2 car loans do to lost job of my wife and lack of work at my job do to COVID 19 shutdown. Because I took advantage of low rate in Jan and dropped my loan term and refinance I can't defer because it needs to be active for 6 month even tho the loan was there originally, I just refinanced to get a lower percentage!! So ignore their COVID-19 paragraph where they state you have options #good lookin out read more

I just opened an account here. I got tired of my big time bank after they pissed me off and I felt like I was a number to the. I decided to open an account at ICCU because a friend told me about them. The location is a little out of my way but not by much since we have to drive 10-20min to get to most places. They are really friendly and I was able to see someone right away and ask questions about car loans. I can see why they are a favorite of some of the locals around here! read more

I recently moved out of state I had a real small SAVINGS account here, I just received a letter telling me that I was being charged $10 for an inactive account when I called they told me I either had to spend the money or close the account what part of savings account do I not understand I will never recommend this credit union to anyone. read more

I have been a member since 1993 when my daughter was born. I've had multiple car loans with them over the years and always get the best rates. I like their online bill pay as well. Even if the billing company is not set up electronically with them, they will simply mail the biller a check on your behalf. A few clicks and my bill is being sent by them in the mail. I've never had anything but good service from them. read more

Very bad customer service! Rude Employees. Banked here for 16 year and have been puting up with their Ryde behavior. For instance, Jill, who usually answer the phone, hung up on me today for asking her to reverse a charge they should not have charged for. Last straw. Lost a 16 year customer because of attitude. I am a mortgage loan officer and am refinancing a 1st mortgage for one of ICCU's members who also have a 2nd mortgage through ICCU. So I need to re-subordinate the 2nd to the new first. I called the first time and the mortgage people were not there so I left a message. She called me back and seemed to be very helpful and said she would email me the form I needed. She failed to do so. Then I called the next day - 3 times and was sent to voice mail every time. It seems the CU has a major staffing issue. I wouldn't join this CU because they are not very responsive. read more

I do not recommend this company for your banking needs. We have an account with them that has been open for a few years with no prior late payments etc. We tried to move an auto loan over to them and was denied for lack of income (I am a stay at home mom and husband makes the payments). Later that year we tried to secure a personal loan (for home improvements) through them and were denied again because my husbands "job stability" even though we have never missed paying them or been without a job. Bottom line is, when you need help from this bank they wont be there. read more

As soon as I am done paying off my car loan, I will be closing my account!!! I got a car loan from them in October 2015. In February, I wanted to replace my car with something heavier for winter driving to my job in the middle of the night. I explained that my son was driving the car I had just puchased, and my paid-off car I was giving to my grandson. Because I had very good credit, they led me to believe they would finance the second vehicle. When I finally found what I wanted, I could not reach either of the 2 ladies I had been dealing with. I ended up puchasing the vehicle through the dealership. I missed out on the perks from ICCU. I still have all 3 vehicles in the family and have not missed a payment!! Today I called to find out if I could purchase another warranty on the vehicle that I financed with them. I was given information over the phone by Cheryl and was promised an email so that I could decide which coverage I wanted . The email never came. The car is in the shop now. I am awaiting ICCU's response. They are now closed. I will have to pick the car up and pay $116 for their labor to diagnose the problems. No repairs will be done! They have disappointed me again. read more

This is a great place to get a loan if you want to be hung out to dry. I received an auto loan with this place over 2 years ago. I am current on all my payments, and have only missed one payment by 30 days one time quite a while back. Just recently my car broke down and it will cost more to fix than what the car is worth. I talked to the credit union about another loan and seeing what my options are. Even though my credit score is now over 80 points higher than it was two years ago when I obtained my loan, they will not do anything for me because they say my credit score is not high enough. Like I said this company all the sudden has decided not to help its members. I will never do business with them again and everyone should be cautious about becoming a member of this institution. read more

If you're looking for a bank you can trust...DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT at ICCU! The only reason I opened an account here was because I had my car loan through them. In that time, I have had three charges to my account that was not authorized by me. It's amazing in a blink of an eye, they will take the money out of your account but if you want to dispute it, it may take up to two weeks to get it back! I was also very surprised to find out that they do not handle coin. In my book, they are not a full service bank and they do not care about their customers money. They have already closed two banks in the area and are rumored to being going bankrupt. I can not wait to close my account with them and move on. read more

When i began with the bank, it was nice till i moved out of the state and things fell a part. Customer service is a joke nowadays and phone calls go unanswered. Any attempt to solve customer issues falls under rude inconsiderate reps that will do nothing to help you. Talked to a loan officer who pretty much told me they can't help me. The manager the same. A lot of services that used to be offered are no longer and i'm not surprised they have closed a few branches down. so i Can't wait to close my accounts and move to a more considerate bank!
