Pets at Home really now how to tug at the heartstrings. It's practically impossible to walk past…read moretheir adoption section for unwanted pets, without leaving with some form of livestock under your arm. They'll have a little sign up next to them with something written like "My name is Buttons, please give me a second chance of a loving home." I actually found it quite difficult the other day not to take a giant rabbit home, even though deep down I knew he was just a massive, twitching rat. In all seriousness I suppose getting people all teary eyed will help to ensure the animals get a new home, so I'm all for it. Other than that, they stock pretty much everything you could hope for in a pet superstore, from food to bedding to toys to hutches to aquariums etc etc etc, and have a massive selection of fish and rodents, though strangely no birds or reptiles, which was a minor letdown.

It's no secret that I'm a sucker for pet shops - so with that fact in mind I'll try to be as…read moreunbiased as possible. It's not just a shop- it's a superstore! It is to your local pet shop what B&Q is to the tiny hardare shop around the corner. They stock bedding and pet food in bulk - perfect for kenels I imagine, and have a vast aquarium section. It's pretty tempting too when little electric coloured fishys are priced at a mere 99p - but don't get carried away; the start up costs for fish are huge - even more so than any other animals. Plus, fish are so delicate that my friend and I managed to make a game out of spotting the casualties floating at the top of the tank! You can literally get EVERYTHING for pets here; toys, treats, cages, leashes, collars, pet guides, dog clothes, cages, beds... the list goes on. There's even a comprehensive selection of "Beware of" signs for every breed of dog - even the ridiculous chihuahua! There's a small animal section, and a touching adoption area where the animals automatically become more cute by association with abandonment. Disappointingly, there were no larger animals like cats and dogs to coo over, and the bird section has disappeared. So don't go looking for that budgie for Granny here.

I live in Broomhill and i never knew this little clandestine garden centre existed. The lead up to the main store takes you up a small passageway of flowers, plants and herbs - it's akin to walking up someone's drive onto their patio; however just a few paces further we were greeted by a friendly "if there's anything I can help you with folks, just ask". We had a wander round the "patio" area looking through the array of foliage they have for sale, noticing that they are actually situated between two houses, as if you are walking around someone's garden (not off putting at all, though). We headed into the main store, our eyes were met with a section covering everything to do with feeding, grooming and playing with pets; again greeted by another friendly gentleman asking if he could help; when you first walk into the shop it's imaginable that the main room is where it all ends, not the case! Round the corner there's a further section up a small ramp that sells cat beds, dog beds, fish tanks, food for all types of pets imaginably etc etc. Coming out of this little annex you come to a further segment of the shop within it concerned with "growing your own" raspberry plants, herbs, potatoes; all types you could think of, from earlies through to lates - again, at this point you think the store has come to an end, but no! a further installment reveals itself relating to all things in the remit of gardening tools. Being a little independent, local garden centre we expected things to be a little more expensive, but no; prices are very competitive - we walked round to Morrisons to compare prices after leaving here and they are more than comparable if not better prices in some sections. On our way out we had a quick chat with the two gentleman that greeted us on the way in, very friendly and happy to give us a quick history on the place (been around for 16 years!!) and what types of products they sell; letting us know they had a bigger place at one point just up the street, but due to the economic downturn is now closed. If you're looking for pet products, flowers, plants, herbs, grow your own vegetable kits, utensils etc - try driving past the big supermarkets and garden centres and give this place a try; quaint, cute, and has a very local and friendly feel.

I wouldn't know though, I'm far too much in a daze from just how cute the animals are OMGZDIDUSEEHOWTHATMOUSERUBBEDITSNOSE!!! Ahem. Well, Pets-cetera is no exception - it's chock a block full of the fluffiest rabbits, the squeakiest guinea pigs and a bunch of cheery little birds. It also stocks a good range of small animal feeds and treats, and even he biggest simpering animal loving idiot like myself can find a unique treat to entertain themselves and torture their pets with - like dog accesories and outfits. Worth a visit - even if, like me, you don't own any pets at all...

Even though this is on the small side, the space is managed well and it has a wide range of stock. Ranging from a good selection of animals themselves as well as all the food, treaties and paraphernalia you could ever require/seek to find. The few occasions in which I have been in the staff have always been friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. Since discussing pet shops with other people (and I have a friend or ten who currently own pets...), they have ALL been super positive about this shop too.
