Currently, I have been a contact lens/eye glass wearer for over 20 years and have had the same insurance (BCBS FEP Blue Vision) since 2013. Since 2013 I have moved to five different states (Iowa, Illinois, West Virginia, Florida and Texas) and have seen several eye doctors within those states using my same blue cross blue shield FEP blue vision. My insurance normally covers all my exams (comprehensive vision and contact lens evaluation and fitting) free of charge without a co-pay. My first visit I was charged a contact lens fitting fee $70 which I thought was odd. When I enquired about it I was told it was due to the contact lenses that I got. Then my husband mentioned he was also assessed the same fee. Given that they took really good care of my husband I didn't think to question or look into it. The second exam came around and I was charged the same fee and I asked more questions about it and they were saying that my insurance will not pay for both the exam and contact lens exam/fitting. Third exam took place on 5/2/2024. Prior to my appointment I took a deep dive into my benefits and saw that it is a covered service. When I arrived I informed the front desk of this and they printed my benefits and they confirmed it showed $0. My vision exam was swift, no issues, and no changes in contact brands. I chose to use my benefits towards my glasses and paid out of pocket for contacts as my insurance will only pay for one or the other when it comes to materials. Yesterday 5/14/24 I received a call stating my glasses were ready for pick and that I owed $70 for the contact lens fitting. I called back and left a voicemail wanting additional justification for the fee. This morning I received a phone call and I explained the above mentioned and that I have never been charged such fees. The conversation ended up going south as Stephanie was cutting me off and said they billed the insurance and contacted them and it's not covered. I then logged in and began investigating all my EOB claims. You will see an older claim ( picture 1) done at another provider showing both contact lens and comprehensive exams and I owed $0.00. Then you will see my claim at NB Eyecare where the contact lens fee was never billed. I then contacted blue cross blue shield and spoke to a claims specialist who also agreed that per my benefits I should not be charged. BCBS then contacted new Braunfels Eyecare and had a three way conversation. Bcbs the informed there billing specialist that I am being charged for services that are 100% covered. The specialist had no clue and was faulting the system and said the box is greyed out. The bcbs representative then told her to contact the provider line for assistance but I should not be having to pay a fee for the covered service. I then went in and picked up my glasses and informed them that my husband and I will no longer be patients due to there unethical billing practices which is unfortunate as both my husband and I really liked the doctors and have always had a positive experience. But we will not be subject ourselves to being taken advantage of financially.

The techs who do the glaucoma testing, Peripheral vision testing and other necessary test were very helpful taking care of my 89yo year old and let me sit by her while they did they testing . Dr. Clark explains everything to my mother. I appreciate that he is very thorough and saw concerning eye changes and sent her to a retina specialist. Landa eye center has a wide array of fashionable frames to choose from. Very satisfied with the care.

The care I receive has always felt like it's my two sisters and there is a fun side and a professional side to our doctor patient relationship. Jennifer was very helpful and kind in treating my daughter and finding a scratch and a tiny bit of debris that had somehow worked its way in to the eyeball and under the lid. Thankfully this small abrasion was resolved over a few days of rest and antibiotic eye drops to help it heal. Thank you Dr jennifer!

I went there for my exam and to get new glasses. After the exam the optician was helping me with my glasses. I have a high end frame (several of them that are in prime condition). I just wanted to replace the lenses. I have over 50 years of experience in the optical field from manufacturing to dispensing. The optician asked what I wanted. I explained that I wanted what I currently had. She responded with, let's get the most expensive and see what your insurance covers. I asked why and she said, why not? She could not justify wasting money on something I did not want or need. Then she said "your insurance doesn't cover any glasses." Well that is a crock. I had already called the insurance company and knew exactly what they cover! She gave me a price of over $1,000 dollars for a simple bifocal lens! This place is a scam! I left and took my prescription from the VA not the one from them because I had ZERO trust now. I filled it out of pocket at another optical company for 300 dollars! I called my insurance company and filed a complaint about this place. The only thing they care about is how much money they can get out of you.

They cancel the appointment the following day due to a family emergency. I looked around and found San Marcos Vision Center. They got me in the same day. Everyone there was so pleasant to work with. Dr. Strum was very detailed in explaining everything to me. I would recommend San Marcos Vision Center with Dr. Strum to anyone I come across needing an eye doctor. Then they tell me they forgot to send me a form that had a whole different price if you were getting a contact lenses prescription. So not only are you getting an eye exam with a prescription you have to pay a whole different price on contacts prescription. Needless to say conveniently they forget to send you a form that goes all the way to $2000 in order to get contacts. Pretty pricey so I canceled my appointment. Definitely will go see my other Doctor.

Absolute worst front office experience I've ever had…read more I came in today for a prescription correction appointment after my original prescription was written incorrectly. My appointment was at 11:15 a.m., and when I arrived, I was unfortunately on an extremely important phone call that had me repeatedly placed on hold until around 11:40. When they were ready to take me back, the woman at the front desk told me, "Whenever you're ready." I apologized and explained that I was dealing with a very important call and thought I could possibly continue the call while going back for the appointment. Instead of communicating that I may need to reschedule, she simply walked away and left me sitting there until I got off the phone. Once I finished the call, I asked how long the correction appointment would take because I had another appointment later that day and wanted to make sure I'd still make it. Her response was, "Girl, are you really asking me that right now?" accompanied by an incredibly rude expression and attitude. I was completely caught off guard and decided to leave. I later called back to explain that if someone had simply communicated with me while I was on hold, I would have gladly rescheduled. I fully understand that I wasn't ready for my appointment and take responsibility for that. However, there's a professional way to handle situations like this, and the way I was spoken to -- both in person and over the phone -- was completely unacceptable. I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was too unprofessional to ignore.

When my husband and I came in for our first appointment here we were told that we had to have the…read moreretinal screening and photos done. I told them that we would like to opt out for that as we don't need that done. We always opt out for it at other offices. We were told that we had to sign the form and had to both pay $45 each for it in order to be seen. I was also quoted that it would be $149-$169 to be fitted for contacts, other office I've been to charge $60. We paid $45 each for the test because we couldn't opt out of it and was told the contact fitting was $169. After getting home I realized we were over charged $20. I thought that they billed me the extra $20 for the portion my insurance wasn't going to pay for my contacts. When I asked about this they said the contact fitting was $189. I told them that wasn't what I was quoted and wasn't told of the higher price. After having to deal with Audra or Audrey the office manager they finally credited the $20 to my contacts. The office manager was extremely defensive, rude and it was embarrassing the way that she talked to me in the middle of the reception area with other people around. After getting my EOB in the mail I called back to ask what the $45 fee was for again because it didn't show up on either of our insurance EOB's. I was told again it was for the retinal screening and photos. I asked again why it was mandatory as usually we can opt out of it. She said that it was mandatory only because we were new patients. I again reminded her that this was a test that was not medically necessary and shouldn't have been performed or billed. She said that they will not see any new patients unless it it performed. I asked why they didn't submit it to our insurance and she said because it's not medically necessary so insurance doesn't cover it so they don't submit it to the insurance. They literally admitted to performing and billing patients for services that are not medically necessary even if their patients do not want them ran. When I spoke to our insurance they also said that this was a test that patients have the right to opt out of and would be filing a complaint against their office on behalf of myself and my husband. I requested for Dr. Erica Frost to call me and was told that if I wanted to speak with her I would need to schedule another appointment with her and pay out of pocket. They don't want the doctors to be aware of how they are ripping patients off unless you pay for that too. At least I hope they are unaware of it. I would be very cautious going here as they seem to try to slip extra charges in and threaten to not see you if you don't pay cash for unnecessary tests.
