I absolutely love Landa Eye Center! That's why I chose them--because they've been selected as one…read moreof the Best of New Braunfels by New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung for multiple years running. You can see all the awards and shout-outs right on their Facebook page and Instagram. Landa Eyes Center--people keep voting them top in eye care and optical shop, and it's clear why. They've been participating strong in the awards and it shows they've earned that reputation as the go-to spot in New Braunfels. I'm a forty-nine-year-old guy who's been playing competitive amateur golf for over thirty years--grinding on my swing, distances, fitness, mental game, the whole deal. But lately, golf just wasn't fun anymore. My eyesight was off, and it was costing me three or four strokes a round. Worse, it wasn't just the course--driving felt sketchy, and everyday stuff was getting blurry too. I needed a real fix. So I booked online super easy, filled out the paperwork ahead of time, showed up at their downtown location-- 266 Landa Street Suite 100, New Braunfels TX 78130 --and the front desk greeted me like an old friend, all smiles and quick. No waiting around. Then the tech team took over--different pros, really professional, walking me through these incredible machines. Quiet, fast, high-tech stuff: full retina scans, pressure checks, 3D mapping, every angle covered without any discomfort. It felt cutting-edge but caring. By the time I sat with Dr. Mateo Alvarez--he's a golfer and an athlete too, so he totally got it--he already had all the data. He listened to every detail, explained why my old prescriptions (bifocals, tweaks, whatever) had been failing for the last two or three years, and nailed the perfect new one. Walked out seeing sharper than I have in ages--breaks on the green pop, distances click, and yeah, driving feels safe again. Golf's enjoyable now, like it used to be. The whole flow was smooth: after the exam, optical folks were chill, helped with frames and sunglasses (they've got a great selection--check their Facebook for pics), no hard sell. Checkout? Painless--they take all kinds of insurance, explained everything clear. Left with a happy grin. These guys have been around since nineteen seventy-six, top-notch machines, friendly staff from start to finish--one team greets, another tests, doc delivers. No wonder they're perennial favorites in the Herald-Zeitung awards. If you're an athlete, golfer, or just need better vision, do yourself a favor--call 830-625-5716 Visit their Facebook page, Land Eye Center, see the awards, the glasses selection, everything. Head to their website too for more info. Trust me, it makes a huge difference. Go see them! Www.landaeyecenter.com (830) 625-5716

I went there for my exam and to get new glasses. After the exam the optician was helping me with my glasses. I have a high end frame (several of them that are in prime condition). I just wanted to replace the lenses. I have over 50 years of experience in the optical field from manufacturing to dispensing. The optician asked what I wanted. I explained that I wanted what I currently had. She responded with, let's get the most expensive and see what your insurance covers. I asked why and she said, why not? She could not justify wasting money on something I did not want or need. Then she said "your insurance doesn't cover any glasses." Well that is a crock. I had already called the insurance company and knew exactly what they cover! She gave me a price of over $1,000 dollars for a simple bifocal lens! This place is a scam! I left and took my prescription from the VA not the one from them because I had ZERO trust now. I filled it out of pocket at another optical company for 300 dollars! I called my insurance company and filed a complaint about this place. The only thing they care about is how much money they can get out of you.

The optometrist…read morecenter makes it seem as though you are required to either take pictures of your eyes for $39 or have your eyes dilated for part of the exam. They will tell you without the pictures you will need to get dilated which will effect your vision for 6-8 hours. They fail to tell you that these are optional and not required making it seem like it is mandatory. They are trying to scam you out of money by making it seem you are required to get one or the other when you are not required to do either. I was immediately served and asked if she could look up my insurance. Great! I like quick service…read more She called my insurance to verify and I heard her say, "single vision." I corrected her to let her know my prescription is for progressive. (Why would you just assume single vision?) While I was looking at frames, I watched several customers come in to pick up glasses. The lack of personal attention they were given for fittings, etc. caused me to decide that unless the process was fabulous, I would not purchase my glasses here. Then, as she was finding out the cost, she asked, "What kind of progressives do you want?" My reply: " What do you mean?" "Well, these days there are different kinds of progressives." Me: "In what way?" "Well, the regular ones have a smaller field of vision." At no point did she show me an example or have a diagram... Anyway, my glasses were going to be $250 after my $250 allowance!

This is an updated post regarding the billing practices that are being performed by new Braunfels…read moreEyecare and the erroneous charges (approx $300) that my husband and I have been paying for the past few years that are covered services by our insurance. Currently, I have been a contact lens/eye glass wearer for over 20 years and have had the same insurance (BCBS FEP Blue Vision) since 2013. Since 2013 I have moved to five different states (Iowa, Illinois, West Virginia, Florida and Texas) and have seen several eye doctors within those states using my same blue cross blue shield FEP blue vision. My insurance normally covers all my exams (comprehensive vision and contact lens evaluation and fitting) free of charge without a co-pay. My first visit I was charged a contact lens fitting fee $70 which I thought was odd. When I enquired about it I was told it was due to the contact lenses that I got. Then my husband mentioned he was also assessed the same fee. Given that they took really good care of my husband I didn't think to question or look into it. The second exam came around and I was charged the same fee and I asked more questions about it and they were saying that my insurance will not pay for both the exam and contact lens exam/fitting. Third exam took place on 5/2/2024. Prior to my appointment I took a deep dive into my benefits and saw that it is a covered service. When I arrived I informed the front desk of this and they printed my benefits and they confirmed it showed $0. My vision exam was swift, no issues, and no changes in contact brands. I chose to use my benefits towards my glasses and paid out of pocket for contacts as my insurance will only pay for one or the other when it comes to materials. Yesterday 5/14/24 I received a call stating my glasses were ready for pick and that I owed $70 for the contact lens fitting. I called back and left a voicemail wanting additional justification for the fee. This morning I received a phone call and I explained the above mentioned and that I have never been charged such fees. The conversation ended up going south as Stephanie was cutting me off and said they billed the insurance and contacted them and it's not covered. I then logged in and began investigating all my EOB claims. You will see an older claim ( picture 1) done at another provider showing both contact lens and comprehensive exams and I owed $0.00. Then you will see my claim at NB Eyecare where the contact lens fee was never billed. I then contacted blue cross blue shield and spoke to a claims specialist who also agreed that per my benefits I should not be charged. BCBS then contacted new Braunfels Eyecare and had a three way conversation. Bcbs the informed there billing specialist that I am being charged for services that are 100% covered. The specialist had no clue and was faulting the system and said the box is greyed out. The bcbs representative then told her to contact the provider line for assistance but I should not be having to pay a fee for the covered service. I then went in and picked up my glasses and informed them that my husband and I will no longer be patients due to there unethical billing practices which is unfortunate as both my husband and I really liked the doctors and have always had a positive experience. But we will not be subject ourselves to being taken advantage of financially.
