I've been to Cooking Canvas many times to cook with family and friends, always a great time,…read moredelicious food; wonderful chef and staff and warm friendly vibes. Cooking Canvas really holds a special place in my family and I heart because I remember when it first opened and we were so excited to attend our first local cooking class event that didn't involve us having to drive all the way downtown or to the north side. So we've attended classes here and hosted many private events here. Always a great time. BYOB and music.

Both were very personable and patient with our loud and sometimes rowdy bunch. We made 6 drinks and had appetizers for our group of 10. Everything was laid out perfectly and the quality of the mixers and ingredients was good. I appreciated the music and back drop to take pictures. If I ever want to have another party of this type, I'd definitely come back. Perfect place for a date night or kids cooking Party, too. Overall, great experience!!

Very disappointed with my experience at this venue in Calumet Park. After my event, I was told my…read moredeposit wouldn't be returned due to "shoe prints on the walls." I asked for photo proof--none was provided. My family and I cleaned thoroughly, and no one noticed any such issue. I even offered to meet at the venue to inspect the space, and that was ignored. The owner also mentioned police presence outside due to teens waiting on rides--calling it "loitering"--but even stated a fine was avoided. That shouldn't be tied to my deposit at all. When the police weren't actually called to the venue itself. The reason for withholding it, according to their own message, was just the alleged footprints, which they refused to prove. I reviewed the contract and followed all cleaning policies. This feels like a poor excuse to keep my deposit without cause. Renters, protect yourselves--take photos before and after, get everything in writing, and be cautious with this space.

I picked this venue because it was very pretty and Maria sold me on the attached courtyard. I…read morewasn't able to taste food beforehand because they don't do tastings. But it was good. From the start we didn't like a couple of their rules but after writing the owner we worked out a suitable solution. I had 3 specific beers i wanted to order just a case of for certain people. so, for 200 extra dollars I got my 3 cases of beer. It was very difficult dealing with anyone else but Maria, the men were all condescending. it was raining at the start of my wedding, so I did not go outside to decorate the courtyard. Rain stopped 7:30pm. dinner was very slow service took forever in-between soup, salad and entrees. my timeline was being throw off, so had to go right into schedule without eating much. The coordinator and our server were very good that night. no complaints about them. she asked if I wanted anything boxed up. I said yes but never received anything(so not sure what that was about). around 10:26 noticed I forgot to put cigars in courtyard. went to put them out and it was locked. never opened no fire on no waterfalls. had it unlocked. also noticed my friend that I purchased a special case of beer for wasn't drinking. I asked why she said because at the beginning of the night the bartender said they didn't have any. she had 5 beers. This is where it goes really bad. Monday, I returned because someone had packed an easel in my things, I was returning it to them. I did not get a name of the man I spoke to, but I told him I had some concerned to tell him about and he immediately was defensive. He said it isn't that you didn't have fun because you did. I'm the type that has fun anywhere, so I said just that, I have fun no matter what. I told him courtyard wasn't unlocked he said it was at 8. I said we were still eating at 8 and that I hadn't noticed until 1030 or 11 so he was not correct. He said he didn't have a clock on him, but I was wrong and I had use of my courtyard. umm at 11 when my party was over and only when I noticed. also, no waterfalls or fireplace going. he said uplighting was on. I said didn't mention that because I knew it was on. he said it was because of the rain that stopped at 730. I told him about my friend's beer and he said the other two beers were gone. Later I found out this was a liie as well but . I said again wasn't talking about the other two. Just the one and he said 18 beers were gone. She had 5 and another girl had 1 . He said he counted himself and brought me the 6 pack to take home. people later said how staff kept taking full glasses and the wine from the tables beefore finished. All that and I am called a liar. I don't think I'm very difficult to deal with, but I would not waste your time with this venue. There are too many honest venues out there and you will get everything you paid for. and not be talked down to, when what I was saying was not out of line.

I came in today with themes of ideas hoping that this business can help showcase some ideas of the elements that I present. I thought that is a fair request being this is their claimed speciality. The woman who was there to help, Anna, was not pleasant. She wanted concrete set ideas and told me, "My problem is you don't know what you want." This is only one of the other rude things I can name. I was standing there self soothing myself and at the same time feeling like I needed to use de-escalation skills that I teach at work. It seems all so ridiculous! As a business, wouldn't you think that a place would try to build rapport with you? Her tone was intense and did not fit the joyful energy I would want when planning for a wedding. I couldn't take it after a while. I am at least glad I made her aware that her tone was not appreciated and that I am leaving.
