Bar Latte has recently seen some steep competition in the Edgecliff Coffee scene, with The Lab Cafe…read more& Cafe Mia opening close-by. This unfortunately places their coffee under further consideration with the proximity of highly respected competitors. Unfortunately, the coffee at Bar Latte is still sub-par. Their location is still the best, as it's a quiet sit-down cafe, located at the entrance to the Edgecliff Station, where lot's of people queue for tickets, wait for buses & abuse their lives due to often calculations. Their food especially breakfast and take away sandwiches are good quality, unfortunately they're not competitively priced, and could find that their local customers are not as loyal as they once thought, once the competition is tasted. There is outdoor seating, although I find the cafe tables with high stools often uncomfortable for an extended seating, and it's often very loud with the bus-stop directly opposite. Best of luck Bar Latte, I'm sure you can get better!

The Açaí bowl was refreshing, packed with berries and assorted fruits, crunch of muesli and well balanced flavours, so moorish got me scooping for more. The smashed avo on sourdough with salmon and poached eggs tasted as good as it looks, a great savoury option. Chuffed to have a top notch cafe at my local. Only improvement would be to be more customer centric and attentive.

The atmosphere is nice, it is very much like what a sweets cafe looks like in Lebanon before all the craziness. It's clean spacious and will set out. How ever it does look a tiny bit like my living room furniture wise, but that just adds to the relaxed feel of the place where you can enjoy amazing Lebanese desserts and some of the best coffee that I have had in a long time. The service was fast and friendly with the waitresses joking around with us when trying to speak broken Arabic to them. They cleaned up nice and quick and were very polite and helpful in every other way. I would not hesitate going back, I would recommend to sit back relax and enjoy the desserts and coffee and even take some home with you. Lady's arm and sweet cheese are my favs. Steer away from the typical baklava that you're use to and try something new! It's all good!!

The coffee standards are high here with the store getting lots of recognition in various publications over the years. The store is quite cute and they have a enough seats inside for a decent crowd and also some Sears along the arcade too. It's on Spring street though so can be quite loud around here. Gusto is great for takeout though and you never have to wait very long. They got a great range of muffins , pastries, croissants and breads to go great with your coffee and also serve some light meals. Today I ordered peanut butter on Turkish bread. Really simple of course but very tasty none the less and perfect to keep you going until lunch. The coffee comes with a cute little bit of chocolate on top just to make your day.

Homemade bircher muesli, fruit salad and yoghurt are also available as a more healthy breakfast alternative. However, the atmosphere here is not one so much for relaxing and reading the papers, but is a more frantic grab-and-go coffee on the way to work. Their breakfast-bar layout offers a great place for quickly scoffing a muffin and slurping your coffee, but I think there are better places if you want to relax and enjoy watching the world go past.

I think the best thing about the cafe is the food. Very limited menu, but still they make everything quite well. For me the best thing is the smash Avo with poached eggs. Seriously cannot go wrong with this - specifically as anything will grilled haloumi is always awesome. The coffee is good but not great. My cup was a touched over brewed, in other words the water was too hot giving off a bitter taste. But still better than most. The staff here is really friendly. There is no stable service, but actually makes the place a lot more efficient. As I said this place in intimate so they do not have many tables. I was hunting for some Earl Grey for a friend. The lady in the store was so friendly and knowledgable that I found myself asking about all different kinds of blends. Everything from Japanese Lime to the Stockholm Blend - it was quite the international affair! The store also has a lovely collection of tea pots and cups that make lovely gifts (or just a little something special for yourself). My friend ended up with Earl Grey...and a cute little tea pot to brew it in!

There's something a little bit secretive about The Little Marionette…read more It would be easy to mistake the Annandale cafe for an empty shopfront or an abandoned house. In fact, with no signage on the building, you could walk straight past without even registering it was there. That is, if it weren't for the smell of coffee beans wafting through the windows and the throngs of milling hipsters spilling onto the footpath. Once you step your way through the dogs and fixie bicycles leaning against signposts, the staff greet you with a laidback "Hey", despite how busy they must be. The sky blue mural on the roof (complete with clouds) gives the impression that this tiny shoe-box of a cafe is far more expansive than in reality, and indeed it is when compared to its hole-in-the-wall predecessor in Balmain. There's a floor to ceiling bookshelf stacked with Little Golden Books, travel guides and encyclopedias, and if you lift the right book the entire wall revolves revealing a hidden second room packed with giant green leather couches. Whilst moose heads are no longer mounted on the walls, you still get the feeling that you've stumbled into a hunter's trophy room to discuss covert matters over cuban cigars. Local indie artists trickle through the stereo and, it seems, the same indie artists are squatting on the arms of the couches, knocking back one little coffee after another. In the roasting room out the back stacks of hessian bags are being emptied into the giant copper roaster by a couple of guys in flannelette shirts, rolled up jeans and caps akin to those your grandad wore, and the smell of the roasting beans is just as sweet and warming as the coffee itself. With beans from Africa, Indonesia and South America, you take your pick between house blends and a daily differing bean (today it's a Honduras). The coffee is a bit hit and miss depending on who's pulling the strings, but even at its worst it's still a good eight out of ten (it's a ten plus the rest of the time). So, get in on the secret. Be mysterious and important. Pull the fire stoker and sneak away to the hidden room, order your second coffee and discuss world events (or last night's Game of Thrones episode) in a hushed voice.
