The nearest shop that you could compare it to is a Waiterose, it's gone totally upmarket. Great selection to choose from & good display of fresh produce when you compare it to other local places. Lotto available here & free cash machine, bus stop is just across the road. This place is definitely worthy of a 5* plus

Can not believe it, the day after Christmas, I was in this wee Co-op store buying some peach…read moreschnapps, there were 2 girls at the checkout in front of me and pointed at me saying to the staff: "there are so many of these Chinese people around these days, why is that?" The staff ( called Elaine) looked at me and told me to step off cuz of COVID (lol), I asked her if they are having a conversation about complaining "having too many Chinese people around", Elaine (stared at me) said: "that's a conversation between me and them." Thank you Elaine for encouraging such racist behaviour on behalf of the national company Co-op and I still haven't received an apology from her or the manager. 3rd year in the UK, first time having this sort of experience, hopefully this won't happen in the future again as Britain is getting far more international for this.
After doing some exploring on the Isle of Skye on Sunday 14 July 2019, I was thinking about lunch…read moreand dinner options. There are a number of restaurants in Portree and food available in the general area. However, it was prime tourist season and the lines could be long. So, I decided to see if I could find a grocery store to get some late lunch/early dinner items. The parking lot of this Co-op on the periphery of Portree is large and easy to access. The store was well laid out with items easy to find. As I was looking over items, I noticed a half rotisserie chicken in the hot foods section. No, I thought. I did not travel from the west coast of the United States of America to Scotland to eat half a rotisseries chicken. After looking around some more, I went with it. I got a few other items as well. Check out was straightforward and I did not have payment issues. Unsure of where to dispose of the remains of the rotisserie chicken once I ate it, I noticed a trash receptacle out front of the building. I thought eating in my rental car in the parking lot and disposing of my trash at the receptacle sounded like a good alternative to leaving the chicken remains in my hotel room. I was not the only person who had the same eating in the parking lot idea. The chicken was tender, tasty, and, very thankfully, not messy. The other items I got were good as well.

The last 200m or so is a steeper one-lane road, but not problems here if you just look ahead a bit. The parking lot by the Oyster Shed has limited spaces. Again here...just don't rush - bring some time to either wait for a spot or to park further down and walk up. We got lucky and got a spot. Two RVs parked here too. Almost couldn't get in and out and did hold everybody up - so I wouldn't recommend bringing your RV up here. Inside you order by tablet. It's quite a big space inside the shop. Once you got your food (outside) you can sit down right in front or head around the corner to the big table with some views. We were happy to sit out front though. Ordered two kinds of cooked topped oysters (salmon/seaweed and spicy seaweed chutney), crab legs, a softshell crab and half-a-dozen of regular oysters. The fresh raw oysters were nice and of good quality. The cooked oysters were decent, maybe easier for oyster-beginners since the toppings cover the sea/oyster flavour. The softshell crab was really tasty - but also a bit pricey for our served size. The best item were the crab legs cluster. A good load of legs for little money. Very tasty! All in all a good place to enjoy some seafood. Some items were great, others also very good - but not great. If we come back it would be for the Crab legs...
