When we arrived the place was not too busy, and when we left it was very busy. This made for poor service, because the waitress was the ONLY person working the entire place it seemed. I did not punish her for this, because it was not her fault, and she was nice. But honestly, we waited forever just to get a menu, then again for longer than necessary to get the order taken. A reasonably short time to get the food, but then again for the bill and then to pay. This was an hour and a half almost lunch experience. Is this normal in Canada? Maybe No body is in a hurry up here. Anyways. The point is, this steak sandwich was on point. It was on a delicious ciabatta roll, the steak was ordered medium and I got exactly what I wanted, cut in thick slices, laid out with grilled onion. I could eat only this sandwich from here on out. Good job to the chef here. Owner/manager might consider bringing in an extra server to help out on a Sunday afternoon.

They had music on Saturday night with a live DJ which was nice. We were actually here twice over the three days we were in town. This meal had it been given a stronger dressing, maybe a sun dried tomato dressing, it would have increased the flavour profile to a new level. But it came with a tasteless tahini I think... The shishito pepper were nice, but the portion was incredibly small, even though it tasted good, it just wasn't bang for buck... $11 for 8 small peppers. The star of the show was the Buddha pizza. This is what we came here two nights in a row for! This pizza has a ton of topping, they weren't stingy by any means! The perfect balance between salty meats and spicy peppers, thin crust, and a delicious sauce! Omg wow! I'm considering moving here for this thing alone! We ordered the passion fruit marg, it was very tasty, but it wasn't slushy like I expected it to be. I think it was a mix or alcohols and passion fruit juice. I enjoyed it quite a bit! Our waitstaff was a young person with yellow hair, nose piercing in the middle of the nose, and they were just amazing! We ordered some items at separate times, and they were just on top of it all. Our food came in a timely manner, they didn't write anything down, and the joint was BUSY! I was so impressed with our server! I haven't experienced customer service like this in a while, so I really do want to give a huge shoutout thank you to you.

There is also a guy who does a sort of local news show on the marine radio that you can hear as far west as, at least the Benjamin Islands. This turned out to be great information to have the time that my brother had appendix surgery while my parents were on vacation in the North Channel, and I called up the Anchor Inn and asked them to put an APB out to the boat Constellation telling them to come home. As it would turn out, my parents called on their own from Killarney, but still, it was really nice that they indulged my request. Anyway, that story aside, the Anchor Inn is one of the first places I ate fish. And oh Lord, they make it well. Really well. I mean, I wanted to lick the plate, it was so good. I have also had the ribs here, before I stopped eating land animal meat, and remember liking those, too, but the whitefish, oh my God, it has to have been swimming in the morning, it's so fresh. One time, at band camp...no just kidding; one time when I was 14, there was a band called…read moreFurnaceface and I really liked this band. I heard they were coming to Sudbury and were going to play an all ages show so I did everything I could to come up with a bit of money and a ride, grabbed my best friend, and experienced my first ever live music show - at the Townehouse Tavern. This first experience has defined a lot of my life - music choices, friend choices, etc. I've gone on to see many shows and have many drunken (and sober) nights at the Townehouse. When I go home for a visit, it's always on the agenda. The bar has been going strong for close to 25 years now, booking a wide array of bands and musicians, some barely known and some well known. For a city like Sudbury, it's truly an impressive thing. I thought that perhaps I was being biased by giving the Townehouse 5 stars, based on my affinity for live music and pubs and the fact that there is a serious lack of each in Sudbury. But I don't think that's it - this is just a genuinely great bar, down to earth, good music, good people, good times. When you're booking amazing talent like Bedouin Soundclash, Bocephus King, etc. and won't submit to crap music, you deserve 5 stars. I can't sum it up much better than Paul does on the Townehouse website - there is a great about us section that outlines the history of the venue. My only complaints would be that the washrooms are kind of yuck and that the bouncers are sometimes a bit jerky because they work at the coolest and most 'alternative' bar in town. But, that counts for a few minutes of your night and then you're whisked back into 1994 or 2000 or whenever it was that you first happened to start frequenting the Townehouse - and I mean this is a good way. Your friends are there, a good band is playing, you play a round of foos and drink some beer. Could you really ask for anything more on a Sudbury Saturday Night?
