Central Library (or Bexleyheath Library as it is more commonly referred to) is the main library…read moreserving the Bexley Borough area. It is the biggest and has the most comprehensive collection of facilities. These include a large variety of books covering all genres to borrow. There are also extensive free to use IT facilities and internet access. It is an ideal place for school children or college students to study and work or for those without web access at home to log on and check emails. I used the facilities recently to browse through the university prospectuses which were upstairs and sat in their quiet zone to help a friend select a course. The quiet zone was a good place to concentrate and the nature of the zone was well respected by all who used it. DVDs and local history archives are other among the many other things on offer at Central Library which has become an important part of Bexleyheath life as activities such as reading groups, guest speakers and children's activity sessions are offered. The DVD and CD hire is a good way of entertaining yourself on a budget as the rental costs are a significantly lower than those at places such as Blockbuster although the titles are not always as recent or as well stocked as rental shops. The library can get busy at times and although I have never experienced it being cramped, you may have to occasionally wait for a member of staff if you need help. The staff are always cheerful and enthusiastic as well as helpful when it comes to locating items. Getting to the library is easy as it is near the Broadway where almost every bus in Bexleyheath stops. Parking in The Mall or in local pay and displays are available too. Be cautious of parking wardens as they patrol the area regularly.

The book range is good, staff are helpful and kid friendly. The library is well lit and modern. Parking is available via Broadways parking areas, DO NOT try and park on the road as Traffic wardens appear as if by magic ticket you and disappear again!!. The memorial is set in a picturesque flower garden next to the library and Dartford museum. A place to ponder ones thoughts of how lucky we are those young men (mostly) and women fought to save us from the enemy. Bless them all.

Inside it is a good layout, with a really big reception desk to one side and on the other some book shelves with popular books and some computers for quick use. If you go around there is clearly categorised loads of books. There is a section with computers that are for long use. There is also an upstairs, to study. There are comfy chairs and a range of papers to choose from if you wanted to go in there and get away from things in a good book.

The museum itself is free to enter, wheelchair users can request access through the library as there's steps up to the main entrance. The museum is small but wonderfully set out with a helpful guide who will answer any questions. There are exhibits going right back to Saxon and Roman times and then on through the world wars and how it affected local people with heart wrenching personal stories. Then there's a mock up of the inside of an old shop and lots of local news and upcoming events. Well worth a visit whilst having a day out shopping in this vibrant area.

Sidcup Library is a fairly large library for such a smallish town, but there are very good…read morefacilities here. I've used the library to look at the newspapers and magazines to save me buying them, and also for browsing the internet when my internet access at home has been down. There are plenty of internet terminals available for up to an hour at a time, you just have to show your membership card at the main desk and the staff will log you in to one of the computers, assuming one is available, as they can get very busy after school hours. The staff are very polite and helpful. There is a good, large childrens library here, and they open late on Wednesdays until 8pm which is handy if you work all day. You can also borrow Cds and DVDs, and of course - books! I think the library would benefit from having some public toilets on site or very close by, but apart from that I have found Sidcup library to be very useful for me!

North Heath Library is very small for a library. I would describe it as a mini library which is…read morenew, plush, modern and a comfortable environment. The selection of books is not large by any stretch of the imagination and it caters mainly in fiction titles. It does have a good selection of DVDs to hire which is a great way to entertain yourself at home and beat the credit crunch. It's good to pop in and pick up a book to read but in terms of studying, it does not really do much. Central Library is much better for that kind of thing. Access isn't a problem as there is a pay and display car park next door and the library is not too busy so you have time to browse and think.

Northumberland Heath Library is a small library which is located on Mill Road. You can access the…read morelibrary and it's car park from Mill Road or if you are on foot you can access it by going down the path which runs between Somerfield and the Royal Oak pub. Although the library is small it is well organised and has a number of PC terminals which you can use free of charge. As well as books they also rent out a selection of DVD (at a cost). On Tuesdays there is a baby and toddler singing group which starts at 9.30am and 11.00am. This is really enjoyable and the lady who runs it is very engaging.
