I had already pictured it in my room, when I had finally saved enough to get it I came to the shop, excited and armed with £100. To my surprise it was gone, I was disappointed and begun asking questions. When will you get more? Will you be getting anymore from that era? Do you have anything similar? The lady was more concerned in attending to her T.V set so she could watch countdown, fiddling with the antennae and basically ignoring my questions. She said she did not now, repeated answer to all my queries. The lady is of age so I can't blame her for just wanting to enjoy her show, in a weird way I guess she forms part of the charm of the store. I would go back, in fact I will come back, I am hoping an even better mirror will come along.

There are many antiques from Alfies in my home that we inherited from my mother and smaller special keepsakes from my time living in London in my 20s. My husband & I spent part of our honeymoon in London, and it was his first time in the city (September/October 2024) and this was a nonnegotiable stop for me. Plan to spend a few hours wandering around and exploring-it's humongous! Also, generally speaking not on the inexpensive side but you can always find some gem's. I can remember on one visit when I was 19, we stumbled on a vendor that didn't realize what he had, it was a 20 year old authentic bubblegum pink Kelly (Hermes) and he had it priced under $1000. I still to this day regret not buying it for resale alone (bubblegum pink is not for me lol)

You may need a little help in how to make a bid and you do need to register first but there are plenty of people on hand to talk you through it and it can be a lot of fun. What if I bought something that I didn't have a chance to inspect properly? I was so intimidated that I forced my boyfriend to bid for me. But, I soon got over this. I actually grabbed the bidding card from my boyfriend and went a bit mad. Just for the record, I did win, I didn't over pay and the chairs were in perfect condition! The variety of items is quite amazing from week to week. From furniture to prints to candlesticks, you can find hundreds of items with an immense amount of character. I find myself trolling the site week after week looking for my next big find. The experience is also quite pleasurable... the auctioneer is a darn funny guy, making fun of bidders and taunting them into bidding just a little bit higher. Plus, he told me I had a nice smile when I won a set of French armchairs. (When in doubt, flirt!). Anyway, the process is very organised at Lots Road Auction--you can view items online or on location a few days before the actual auction. The actual bidding process runs smoothly and on time. The payment process is equally as easy. I was even helped to a taxi with my two large chairs! I enjoyed my experience so very much! I'll definitely be back!

Kensington Church Street now has the greatest concentration of antiques dealers in London and it is…read morealways a pleasure to visit. There are many great dealers in the road but my favourite by some distance is Eddy Bardawil. Mr Bardawil deals predominantly in 18th century English furniture and those who subscribe to the lazy modern notion that all antique furniture is "boring brown" need to visit asap. Mr Bardawil is particularly interested in mahogany furniture with incredible colour and surface patination and will not buy anything that has had its original surface tampered with or repolished. He has helped steer me towards quality pieces for my collection and made sure that I have stayed away from poorer pieces that I might otherwise have bought. A visit to his gallery is highly recommended and, although furniture dealers in London are never cheap, he is much more "realistically" priced than most of his competitors. Whether buying or simply browsing you will certainly be given a friendly welcome.

There are stalls selling acres of china, silver cutlery, lace and that one stall that sells royal commemorative tat that I salivate over. Not much furniture, mostly small collectible things. There are hundreds of high quality and reasonably priced stalls selling an overwhelming array of goods. As soon as you've descended the slightly circular staircase you will have that same feeling as you had entering the arcade upstairs - so much furniture, so many beautiful colours. The items change depending on what comes in and when and how much they sell - if you're after a pair of chairs, for example, you should consider buying them there and then as this is a very popular place to buy furnishings. Barham Antiques is an amazing find on the south end of Portobello Road. I wasn't even in the market…read morefor antiques, bypassing all the stalls in the Market the day before, but was lured in by all the gorgeousness inside when I walked past on a misty Sunday afternoon. The selection of antiques was truly the most carefully curated collection I have ever seen. I wouldn't call myself an expert collector by any means, but this was the first antique store I've seen that made me want to clear the shelves. They have the most gorgeous collection of wooden boxes, clocks, and decanters. I did not even know I wanted a dainty dinner gong, but now I do. I came away with a couple of small items - a close call thanks to my limited suitcase space. Otherwise, I would have gotten a little ambitious. The gentleman who helped me was so kind and helpful. It was a delight to chat with him. For a lovely wedding gift, something to add character to your flat, or a special memory from your trip to London, you'll likely find something at Barham Antiques. I'll definitely make a point to go back anytime I'm in the area.
