I was super excited when Muu BBQ Bento opened next to my office because, quite frankly, I am…read moresurrounded by a sea of mediocre restaurants and shitty fast food.
Sorry, but Buca di Beppo is a restaurant stuck in the past with dust everywhere and smells like Nila wafers, Cafe Rio is basically Temu Chipotle, and Taco Bell... well, that's just basura.
The first time I went to Muu, I noticed the employees were actually Japanese, which was a huge plus. One thing I did notice was that the food takes a little longer than your typical fast food place.
But honestly, I would rather wait for my food than have the food waiting for me.
I ordered the gyudon bowl, and it immediately reminded me of Yoshinoya. When I lived in California, Yoshinoya was one of my guilty pleasures. SoCal had Yoshinoyas everywhere, and when I moved to the Bay Area, there was only one left in Cupertino. I would literally drive down to the South Bay just to get a beef bowl with red ginger.
Yes, I was that guy.
Then I moved to Vegas and discovered there were no Yoshinoyas here. I literally shed a tear...
So Muu basically fills a very specific hole in my life: beef bowl cravings.
And it is not just beef bowls. They have bento boxes, triangle seaweed rice onigiri, and about three weeks ago they added curry bowls.
I love making Japanese curry at home, but the problem is that curry smell does not leave your house. It moves in, unpacks its bags, and decides it lives there now.
It lingers.
So being able to get a good curry bowl without having my house smell like curry for the next three days is a pretty nice bonus.
When I don't have a lunch appointment with a client, I will usually call ahead, place my order, walk over, and either eat there or bring it back to my office.
Honestly, this is what I love about a small business. Fresh ingredients, good service, reasonable prices, and food that actually feels like somebody cares about what they are serving.
I have even gotten one of my coworkers so addicted to this place that I think he eats here four times a week. At this point, I am wondering if I should be getting a referral fee for being his Muu BBQ Bento dealer.
They also get a ton of DoorDash orders. If they deliver to you, order it. The food is really good and holds up well for delivery.
So if you work in the area and you are tired of the same mediocre chain restaurants, give Muu BBQ Bento a try.
I came for the Yoshinoya nostalgia.
I stayed for the beef bowls.
And now I am working my way through the rest of the menu. I always devour the beef bowls. Will make sure to take a photo next time lol.
