My husband and I stayed at Crathorne Hall as part of their Sunday Night Club deal - dinner bed and breakfast for a reduced price on a Sunday night - for one night in October. Having seen the website I was hopeful of a good experience and chose to pay extra for a superior room. The hotel itself is very grand and has extensive grounds. Our room was in the old servants' quarters and had a view of the woodland next door. The room itself was large with steps up the door, a small ante-room with large, gleaming bathroom off and then steps into the main bedroom. Although tastefully decorated, the room had a few small niggly annoyances that a little attention to detail would have solved: the duvet cover was the wrong size for the duvet, the fire alarm detector made a noise all through the night and the promised Sky TV was not available in superior rooms - only in the 'normal' rooms (very annoying as we'd paid extra). Dinner was delicious, however, and the waiting staff were friendly and polite. There was even a complimentary pre-starter of a snail in garlic butter (not to everyone's tastes but a nice touch nevertheless) and the meal was definitely in the 'fine dining' category with a limited but delicious choice for the fixed daily menu. Overall a good experience but the hotel room slightly let Crathorne Hall down. read more
