However, their key cutting is somewhat questionable, as my flatmates new keys from this shop broke only 3 weeks afterwards. I now know he has no idea where things are in his ramshackle premises, what belongs to what or to whom. If you value your watch or clock take it elsewhere.

Please be patient when approaching the counter, the proprieter may be at his desk a few feet away, and seem to take an age to acknowledge you. Look again and you'll see he is working on the intricate mechanism of a clock or watch with many small pieces to misplace. Be patient, he will get to you in good time. Cash only, but the prices are extremely reasonable.

The larger/chain type cobblers seem to charge a fortune and the service is never that great. At Roseburn the service is excellent, the pricing very reasonable and the customer interface excellent. This is good old fashioned customer service at a fair price and as such they have guaranteed my lifetime customer loyalty! I can recommend without hesitation.....

It's lovely every time you find something a shoe repairs and locksmiths shop surviving independently in the big city. As you might expect they know their stuff. The shop has a fantastic smell that greets you when you enter. Shoes of all varieties rest on the shelves right around the back of the shop. It has atmosphere! The staff are friendly and were honest with change when I gave them a couple of pounds too much by accident. Prices are fair, even compared to the likes of Timpson. I think it's worth going out of your way to support shops like these, even if it means travelling a little further. Recommended!

There are still more expensive, special occasion items to be found here, like the Gucci watches, and as watches go, I'm quite a fan of the Juicy Couture cream numbers that Laing also stock. They've recently brought in a range of Mancini rings, which are excellent, because you just buy whichever band you want from the range, and they're all really reasonably priced, then you can keep coming back and buying different colours of stones to team with the band, as they're detachable. If my experience of them is in any way typical (and the other review here suggests that it might be), then it is unbelievable that they are still in business. If you need to have a watch repaired and Ritchies is your only option, I would advise you just to smash the watch underfoot instead - at least that'll be quick and effective, unlike going to Ritchies, and you're just as likely to have a working watch afterwards. UPDATE: I said at the outset that I wouldn't bore you with the details of the repair that Ritchies failed to carry out, but it is worth mentioning the following information I think. I was told that the reason my watch wouldn't be repaired was because the parts were no longer supplied by the manufacturer and so it was, in effect, obsolete. However, when I contacted the manufacturer directly I was told that not only were the parts I needed still available, they were currently in stock at their UK service centre! In other words, it took me five minutes to do something Ritchies were incapable of accomplishing in 6 months.
