We ate here twice, easily the best food in the local vicinity and the atmosphere is especially suited to cold wintry nights. We had the homemade Steak & Ale pie and Slow braised Lamb Hock, both were divine. This is not fine dining but British classics using excellent local ingredients and executed wonderfully. I imagine this is the kind of fare that the local folk and the farming community have been getting for centuries but virtually impossible to find for us city slickers The perfect reward after conquering Snowdon!

The hotel is a B&B as well as a very popular restaurant. Betws-y-coed is a gateway to Snowdonia, the national park which is a must visit if you're in the area. If you stay some place else, you must try to get a reservation to the restaurant. And getting a reservation on a Friday and a Saturday looked like a hard thing to do. The food is excellent, well served. The breakfasts are amazing. The ambience in the somewhat cramped environment is charming. The hotel itself is very well run. The staff, and in particular Rob (?) and the owners son whose name we forgot to get, were all very professional and friendly. They do have wifi but it does not extend into the rooms unfortunately. Which means we had to go and sit in the tiny lobby to get a good signal. But it is there and it is free. The rooms are small and most come with en suite bathrooms. Some rooms look like they have the bathroom across the hall but are dedicated to a single room. Everything was clean and well taken care off though not new. The lamps are low. I'm not tall and it was easy to brush my head against the chandelier. Mattress was comfortable, room was warm, the shower had good pressure, tea and coffee provided. The outer walls to this hotel are thick. The walls between rooms are thin so noise travels easily. My wife could hear the guy next door snoring. I easily rose to the challenge and out-snored him according to her. One of the main drawbacks to the hotel is that it is right on the street. And a busy one at that during the day. And by right on the street I mean you have to watch traffic carefully as you walk next to the hotel. Traffic noise does seep in but traffic dies down at night to pick up again in the morning. It wasn't a problem for me. If you're sensitive, then a room on the back of the hotel might be better. I liked my view of the river from our window. It's a little walk across a bridge to get to the town but it's not a big deal. Definitely go to the restaurant for an evening meal. You won't be sorry. I really enjoyed staying here and recommend it to anyone.

It's a cute little (and a bit dated) Chinese but the staff were so friendly and helpful, the food was gorgeous and there was plenty of it. The staff even helped show us how to make napkin fleur de lis while we waited for food to arrive. We had the worlds pickiest teenager with us and she's decided we need to move here because its the best Chinese in the world. Honestly, if she can be pleased, then a good job has been done. If you like Chinese and fed up of the usual bar meals (everything with chips) that's quite common here, then this is def the place to go.

We came in at 5.45 but weren't allowed to see the menus until service started at 6pm. Ok. It being Sunday there was a choice of 3 roasts, good. Roast dinner was £8.50, good. Manager/owner was very friendly and chatty, good. Then we went back to the table and waited for our meals, terrible. We ordered 1 salmon main and 9 roasts. No starters. We already had drinks from the bar. The first two dinners show up at a reasonable speed. They're a bit disappointing as there's no Yorkshire pudding or roast potatoes. The quality is not good but at least it's edible. Then my roast lamb arrived, with roast potatoes. Again the quality isn't special but we're hungry so it'll do. Then there's about a 10 minute wait until the next 2 meals come out. And so on and so on. With a party of 10 this meant that the first people had finished about 20-25 minutes before last 2 people were served! There was no apology about the wait either. Plus there were missing chips. So the last two people had to watch the rest of us eat and then felt like they had to bolt their meal as the rest of us had finished so long ago. Not good especially as it was part of a birthday day out. It was just incompetent service, poor food and with no acknowledgement that there was such a big gap in meals. We all were in a really good mood when we came in but left feeling really hacked off! A good day overall but this was a real low point.

The breakfast had a great choice of fresh fruit, berries and yoghurt. Lots a types of cereal and an extensive hot menu that is made to order. We are a family of 4 and we had the family room which consists of a double ensuite with an adjoining room with bunk beds. The attention to detail was remarkable. We will definitely be staying again.

A little chilly in the rooms at night when not IN the bed but plenty of warm blankets. There is a cell room from when it was the courthouse that you can sleep in. But I swear it isn't creepy. That room also has a couch which it great to sit or spread your luggage out on. Warm shower. Small tvs in the room but who really needs a TV when traveling. LOTS of brochures in the lobby if you are interest in stuff in the area. The inn keepers are welcoming and warm and happy to answer any questions. Quaint bridge to watch the heron and river otters from. Cold in the winter here with snow on and off but what else would you expect from an area called snowdonia!?? Thanks for the stay!

The menu had a nice variety and had reasonable prices. The restaurant is cozy, has a modern feel to it and has some lovely views if you get a seat next to the window. The staff didn't seem overly enthusiastic to seat me... although I find a lot of places don't seem to be enthusiastic about seating one for any meal... Anyway, I had the soup of the day, which I believe was a tomato basil. It was nice and very warming on a windy February day. Then I had the Wild Mushroom Risotto. It was a very generous portion and it looked great. However, it had a very strong smell to it. On the menu, I don't remember it saying anything about Stilton Cheese, however I just checked their menu online and it mentions Stilton. Had I known that, I would not have ordered it as I am not a fan of Stilton, which is probably why I didn't really enjoy the risotto. I spent most of my lunch picking out the tiny mushrooms. However, some of my students stopped in and said that not only were the prices reasonable for the sandwiches, but that they all enjoyed their sandwiches... especially the roasted vegetable with goats cheese. So that's why I decided to rate them 3 stars instead of just 2. If I am fortunate to visit Betws Y Coed again, I'd probably stop in and try something else on the menu.
