Had a Sunday roast here after enjoying a beautiful sunny day in the Welsh countryside. Wish I hadn't.
I was in a party of 10 which is fairly large but surely not so much that a restaurant can't cope! There were a handful of other diners there too. We came in at 5.45 but weren't allowed to see the menus until service started at 6pm. Ok. It being Sunday there was a choice of 3 roasts, good. Roast dinner was £8.50, good. Manager/owner was very friendly and chatty, good. Then we went back to the table and waited for our meals, terrible.
We ordered 1 salmon main and 9 roasts. No starters. We already had drinks from the bar. The first two dinners show up at a reasonable speed. They're a bit disappointing as there's no Yorkshire pudding or roast potatoes. The quality is not good but at least it's edible. Then my roast lamb arrived, with roast potatoes. Again the quality isn't special but we're hungry so it'll do. Then there's about a 10 minute wait until the next 2 meals come out. And so on and so on. With a party of 10 this meant that the first people had finished about 20-25 minutes before last 2 people were served! There was no apology about the wait either. Plus there were missing chips. So the last two people had to watch the rest of us eat and then felt like they had to bolt their meal as the rest of us had finished so long ago.
Not good especially as it was part of a birthday day out.
It was just incompetent service, poor food and with no acknowledgement that there was such a big gap in meals. We all were in a really good mood when we came in but left feeling really hacked off! A good day overall but this was a real low point. read more
