They were only €2 each, which seems amazing really. They were both fruit-nut combinations - one had plums on top while the other had rhubarb and the nuts were pistachio and almond. Both were delicious and I have to say I preferred them to the tart I tried from the Queen of Tarts in Dublin a few days later. Heaven's cakes tarts and pastries are a little more rustic looking but I actually prefer them that way. I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. Here are some pros and cons: Pro: *You're supporting an independent, family-run business. *They provide a simple paper bag (preferable to boxes with plastic windows). *They appear to support community events like a healthy eating day at a local school Cons: *I don't know much about their ingredients - would be nice to know a few things, e.g., are eggs free range? At The Pantry, you'll be served what can only be described as The most serious contender for BEST FULL IRISH IN THE COUNTRY!!!! This is not something I take lightly. I have enjoyed far too many a Full Irish's up and down our fair island...and I'm not joking - SO MANY breakfasts. But never have been inspired to put my feelings about any meal in writing...nevermind post them online. Until now. I first wandered into The Pantry just over a year ago looking for a breakfast...we were met a smile and welcome from Gordon who runs the show. He was quick to find us a comfortable table with plenty space for our buggy (a high chair was available but we didn't need it) and to bring us some tea and coffee (both great by the way). We each ordered the Full Irish. Breakfasts are cooked to order and service is efficient and attentive. Food arrived in good time. Respectively, each item on each plate was cooked perfectly. Food was out of a frying pan and not a deep fryer. Each meal came with tea/coffee and toast...as it should do. We got to speak with Gordon after our meal. He told us about his experience running the The Pantry, about how they bake their own bread daily, about all the different local suppliers..for the sausages, for the bacon, for the pudding, etc. The Pantry is a bright and welcoming cafe/bistro serving a tempting variety of foods throughout the day. Go for a coffee and a cake of go for The BEST FULL IRISH you're ever likely to be served...go for the welcome alone...just go. FIVE STARS. 5! Following that, and in the interest of a fair and impartial review, I should mention the negatives: Each time I visit, I can't help but be reminded of the fact that I live 161 and a half miles away (260km)...and I can never help but think about how long it might be before I'll be able to get another breakfast here. The wrap was very nice and all the vegetables and chicken tasted fresh and flavoursome. The service wasn't the best and the staff could be a little more friendly but again considering how restrictive masks can be it was understandable. The staff also provided me with plant milk on request which was appreciated. I ate outside on the chairs and tables provided as they aren't allowing eating indoors. Overall very delicious lunch.

It is a bakery/cum traiteur, owned and run by award winning French chef Jean Francois Bernard. Quite a choice of freshly prepared food and I choose the Boeuf Bourguignon, a couple of pastries and a brown loaf. The Bourguignon was excellent value at a fiver a pack and you could have fed three from the two I bought. The beef was top class and beautifully cooked and the sauce, with loads of little mushrooms, was terrific. Quality also in the baked pieces and that meant we had a very nice meal at home that evening. Le Gourmet also provides other breads, savoury meals, fish dishes, pastries, gateau and de luxe hampers and are also involved in the outside catering business. Quality, value and service is the motto and it has got Jean Francois into the Bridgestone Food Guide.

The bread here is absolutely divine! The bakery is known to use a scotch brick oven (and trust me, their end product is one of the best). I am regretful that I did not bring a loaf of bread with us. Until our next trip to Ireland! We really enjoyed the pesto chicken and cheese open-faced sandwich. It was such a nice place to stop, have a pastry, warm pot of tea to gather ourselves for our next trip while on the road. We were visiting from America and on a road trip throughout the entire south before visiting family up north. It was very helpful to be able to have some wifi to help us plan our next steps.

The interior is clean and quaint with fresh flowers on each table and a carafe of water infused with fresh cut oranges and limes. It was very refreshing. The coffee was superb. My Americano was served with a beautiful heavy cream. The service was friendly and quick. If you are staying in Kinsale, take the time to drive here for breakfast. It is on the way to Old Head, which is also worth the drive.
