Apparently it's got to be extremely difficult. the employees made it a lot more complicated than what it should be as well as patronising myself and someone else i was with. once we finally got past the not needed struggle of how big the fabric should be, the next issue they seemed to point out was how the fabric wouldn't match even though i told them it doesn't matter. Excuse me but this is my garment, it will look how i want it to look. It would of been a lot easier if i cut it myself or gone to a different shop as someone else told me their experience was a lot easier as the owners had common sense of how big the fabric should be.

This place really reminds me of when I was younder and obsessed with statioinery in all of its weird and wonderful forms. Strange to find such a quirky shop on this street but it has such a expansive feel to it if you are a creative person, on others I think you might get lost between wondering if it was a gift shop or an art supplies shop - but it caters equally. If you love using your creative mind, try this shop! I would despair if people passed it over as another souless paperchase!!

It's not a big shop but it stocks many, many thousands of buttons, of all kinds, shapes and sizes. Even though a purchase of a couple of buttons is only going to mean a sale of a few pence, the staff are very friendly and willing to spend time helping customers to sift through their massive selection in order to find exactly the button they're looking for. It's exactly what you'd want in a button shop. They don't sell anything except buttons. I think it's amazing that such a specialist shop continues to survive in the bustling city centre of York, surrounded by all the major shopping chains in an extremely busy tourist and shopping area. There are thousands of buttons, of course, but threads, ribbons,…read moreinterfacing, trims, sequins and for those who can climb the narrow twisty staircase, a veritable Aladdin's cave of wools, tapestries and goodness only knows what, because I can't get up those stairs any more. Any time I need something to go with what I'm making, it's a case of just go to Duttons for Buttons - it's not often I can't get what I want from them, but they're also very reasonably priced, and the staff are so helpful.
