I'm obsessed with Breton cuisine - buckwheat crepes and hard cider, namely. When I spotted Chez…read moreYannick just steps from our apartment in Paris, I immediately planned a brunch for the next day. I don't know if it was the jet-lag or the thought of crisp, cheese-filled crepes, but...I didn't sleep that night.
Chez Yannick is on a very chic street in an already chic neighborhood (16e), so the prices are a little tough to swallow: roughly 15 euros per crepe (that's almost $20 to us Americans). But, prices are on par with the rest of the neighborhood, and Chez Yannick differentiates itself with a sweet, homey feel and genuinely friendly servers. The blue checkered tablecloths, wood-beamed ceiling, and cider served in big green carafes make it feel like a petit chalet in Paris, sans kitsch.
Our crepes were divine, just the way I expect "real" Breton galettes to be: square, savory, crispy edges, always with a salad on the side. I created a custom crepe of ratatouille & chevre (they really should make this a standard menu item!), while monsieur had a ham-emmentaler-egg combo. With sips of cider in between, we were pleasantly stuffed.
Chez Yannick is the real deal (confirmed by my French travel companion), and a nice change of pace from the Parisian bistro scene. Four stars for a memorable meal in a cute chalet atmosphere... which would be even more enjoyable at a few euros less.
