There is a lot of sand everywhere and the water looks more like lake water. CAREFUL!! Stairs, paths and walkways are NOT level, or the same size; watch your step. The place is a bit run down and I didn't notice any life guards. But nothing looked hazardous. There are plenty of entry and exit points into and out of the water. The shallow end is 9inches and the deep end is 9ft In the women's bathroom there was only one "changing stall" - such as it was - and two toilets that were working questionably. For little ones: They can hang out in the shallow end, or go down the assortment of little slides. The 16 month old with us had a fun time. For big kids/adults: There is a rope swing, a large slide and a volley ball net. The 17 and 21 year old with me had fun. 12 and under could probably spend all day here. (At $8-$11 a person that's not bad!). After a few hours the adult [kids] were bored and ready to go. I did the big slide a few times and it was fun. I could see us potentially going back. My 3 year old and 5 year old loved the waterslides and playing in the water. The water was chilly but refreshing. Know before you go: Bring your own food/ drinks (no alchohol), they have bathrooms but no showers, bring sunscreen and don't expect a fancy water park. Overall, it seems pretty nice, but on my initial visit (set-up) I didn't stay too long. They have two separate machines and free weight areas, two areas where you can use treadmills or ellipticals, and then the walking track that the woman who showed me around said 16 laps equal a mile. The pool is closed on Tuesday until 9:00 AM and so I stuck to working out on machines for this visit. There wasn't a lot of people there so that is a good thing to me, nothing worse for a gym than an overcrowded gym.

A nice young woman gave me a tour of the facilities and I was able to sign up for a low monthly fee. I couldn't believe what was included; Two huge lap pools, workout equipment, classes I can choose from, spin classes, and a walking track, sauna and a Jacuzzi. The jacuzzi is down at the moment but they are working on it. The locker room and bathrooms were so clean, I was very impressed. I dove in and did my first 14 laps and it felt so good. The whole fitness area was very clean. Can't wait for the next visit.

A very quick drive later, we were at the State Park and enjoying all that it had to offer. I appreciate that the roads within the State Park are paved, as the terrain can be steep at times and with the rains we've had, a gravel road would have washed out. The museum is small, but highly informative. I learned so many new things about Stanly County and the types of rocks and minerals found within the county. After the museum, we drove around the State Park, exploring the many camping sites, seeing the Kron house, and ending up at the scenic overlook. There was one hairpin turn that you have to be careful with when meeting oncoming vehicles, but it was a very serene drive. I thought it was awesome they had a "summit snack bar" that was open, although we didn't wander over. The views are breathtaking! Such a great place to visit on a weekend or during the week when time permits.

It's just north of Charlotte and it's a really lovely facility for the distant suburbs of this important city in North Carolina. Everything looks brand new and the gym and cardio and showers are all pretty good. No real complaints about anything here, except that they did insist on calling my home location to verify that I was a real member, which YMCA places skip even though they're supposed to.
