For our last dinner in Germany, we had a seat along the sidewalk and took in the sights of tourists walking the busy street. We has an appetizer of smoked salmon, baby shrimp w/ avocado, and prosciutto. The salmon was a bit fatty but pretty tasty with the horseradish. The shrimp were served with a heavy thousand island dressing and was too heavy and sweet for my taste. The prosciutto was fine. A tall hefeweisen beer and I was in a good mood. Main course was a steak. For some reason, they took a nice steak, cubes it and drenched it in gravy with mushrooms. I was totally jealous of my buddies with a normal full steak. I enjoyed the taste and texture of the beef but I was not in the mood for gravy that heavy. Served with a bland rice. I was not impressed with the meal. However, my buddies all thought their meals were fine...hence the three stars. I would not mind coming back here, but won't be for three years at my next convention in town. Danke Shoen, Dusseldorf.

Service typical for German restaurant, not very hospitable but they did speak English well enough to help us. That's always a plus when you can't speak the native language. I'd eat there again. Until the end of the meal when we wanted to pay and leave. Our server was a nice guy and spoke to us in Spanish...no idea why. I guess he figured I'd understand somehow. And I did. It was a nice break from German. APPETIZERS: They automatically bring the most awesome bread with 3 choices of schmear - aioli, butter with garlic and herbs or a spicy tomato paste (my favorite). This might fill you up, but if you've got a group, order the empanadas. 2 in an order for €7 and they are a fair size. 4 people can try them. I also got the tomato soup, which is super delicious. ENTREÉS: My husband ordered a filet steak with mushroom sauce. This was amazing. The sauce was very powerful with a lot of flavor. I ordered a filet steak with a pepper sauce, which was also very good, but milder. My steak was covered in capers. I'm not a fan of capers, but it didn't deter me from eating. If I liked mushrooms, I would have preferred the mushroom sauce. The quality of the filets was very high and they were cooked to perfection. Just wow! SIDES: The creamed spinach was very good. The baked potato, as well. We were too full for dessert. Fantastic place. Looking forward to our next meal there.

The interior and decoration is still the same. Located in an old barn the setting is very simple and rustic. This place is huge, it can accommodate at least a few hundred people. They have a limited choice of wines which are inexpensive. Go for the whites, you can't go wrong there. The food menu is small. It concentrates on meat especially beef. Additional specials are on the blackboard or ask your server. In general service is attentive and efficient, even on a busy day. Their selection of appetizers is limited, a few soups. Go for the salad bar which is always the best choice. I come here for their steaks which they are famous for. They have 3-4 different cuts which are all very good. The tenderloin and sirloin come in small and big. If you're really hungry, go for the big ones. The meat is cooked to your liking and it's done perfectly. And don't forget to try their sides. I love their baked potato, which is loaded with butter and sour cream on the side. I'm a big fan of their homemade bernaise which is just great! Or go for the pan fried potatoes with bacon and onions, great stuff. Try the onions on the side, they go very well with the meat. Ignore the chanterelle mushrooms, as they're from a can, not fresh! Dessert menu is limited, mostly people choose ice cream. The Jägerhof serves honest food at a very reasonable price!
