This is an oasis of food in a rural area. They offer online ordering, which I kind of wish I'd done…read morebecause it was crowded and there was a wait, but when you're driving the parkway down here, getting any kind of cell service is iffy. They have indoor and outdoor seating, both of which was full. Often times I walk into restaurants where I'm the only person who doesn't speak the language; here I was clearly the only non-Appalachian person in sight. They offered a veggie burger based on black beans, for which I got more beans as a side. The burger didn't hold together well and made a bit of a mess, but this was ultimately solvable. The accoutrements added to make a dynamic flavor, so I wasn't too disappointed. Their pinto beans came with onions and chow chow, which again elevated the flavor. I appreciated the opportunity to order an apple cider in season. The ability to get fresh and vegetarian-friendly food in this area is valuable. It's not fancy, but it is fresh.

Our server did a pretty mediocre job, if I'm being real - she took our orders and delivered the food but pretty much didn't check on us for the entire meal, and I ended up having to take my trash to the front counter to get rid of it, since no one was bussing the table. I got the Chicken Power Pita and I was underwhelmed with it. The pita was soggy and cold, and everything inside felt mushy and a bit flavorless. My wife's roast beef sandwich was also extremely lacking, although she did like the bread. Weirdly, she wanted lettuce, tomato, and onion on it, and the server told us that they didn't offer onion. Why does a deli not have sliced onion for its sandwiches? On the positive side, my father-in-law really liked his chili. Because we got there so early, we found parking on the street, but I'm not sure how easy it'd be to find parking if you came during normal lunch hours. Inside the restaurant, it had standard deli vibes. I would definitely not come back here if I was stopping in Statesville for lunch.
