We never want to think we will need to place a loved one into assisted care. I felt this way about…read moremy mother and vowed to keep her at home. I built a guesthouse for her and as her care needs grew, I was there for her. Unfortunately, at home care became nearly impossible. She fell 3 times in just under a week. The falls were violent and damaging. When the paramedics arrived after the third fall one of them pulled me to the side and told me that the most important step going forward was for me to keep my mother safe and suggested I place her in an assisted care home. That morning, as the ambulance left my house, I made the heartbreaking decision to find a place where she would have 24 hour care and be safe. I found MK Quality Care and went over to talk to the owners, Mariam and Karo. They are a husband wife team with a family of their own and that shows through at MK. The house feels like a home. The staff is like family. In fact, my son and one of the care givers son attend the same university. The property has a wonderful front yard (behind a wall) for residents to sit and enjoy the weather. The house is impeccably clean and there is always fresh food being cooked. Karo even brings fresh apples from his house! I consider everyone there to be part of my extended family. I even chat with the other residents when mom falls asleep. This review is long in the making. My mother has been a resident there for a year and a half now. Recently she was placed on hospice. This process was made much more manageable with help from Mariam. She understands how the system works and can get things done fast. She's been a life saver for my family and does what she does because she cares. I want to wrap this review up by saying that moving my mother (the single woman who sacrificed so much of her life to raise me and my siblings) from my home was maybe the hardest decision I've ever made but it was the right choice. My mother has been well cared for, loved, and most importantly she is safe. I hope this helps you make your decision with your loved one.

Unfortunately I work full time and mom needed 24 hour care. The 1st place she lived was OK but she was left alone in her room all the time and wound up breaking her arm in two places. I was not notified for 6 hours. It was run by a husband and wife team and the husband passed away and the wife could no longer keep it going. The second place my mom went was a Board and Care that did not make it through the pandemic. I contacted A Place for Mom and they told me all about Amy's Mom and Dads Retreat. The second I walked in I knew I had found a place for my mom to live that was not just a Board and Care but a cozy home. Amy the owner is amazingly kind, proficient, and loving. Her caring staff meets my mom's every need and I never have to worry about her there. She has friends, a beautiful room. and everything is spotless. Amy keeps me informed on anything and everything. My mom has been there for years and I have zero complaints. I highly recommend Mom and Dad's Retreat and would not want my mother to go anywhere else.

She had a fall in June 2023 which caused her to require a higher level of care than she could get at her assisted living facility. We visited a dozen board and care facilities and Amy's stood out far above the rest. It was an easy choice and proved to be the right one in so many ways. It is truly a "home" because the caregivers really do treat the residents like family. The injury caused by the fall left my mother bedridden. This meant she needed a tremendous amount of physical care (e.g. she could not feed herself, bathe or go to the bathroom) which the caregivers at Amy's always provided with a smile. She also suffered a severe cognitive decline which, at times, caused her to be difficult or demanding. Again, her caregivers showed truly remarkable patience in dealing with her during this difficult time. Mom and Dads Retreat is the place to send your loved ones if you want them to be taken care of the way you would yourself.

Daniel, the owner, takes pride in personally knowing about both the resident and their family to personalize their stay. The staff is on top of all medical and psycho-social needs and alerts me with any type of change in condition. Placing a loved one in an assisted living facility is a very hard thing to do. From The Ownership (Amy & Ash) to the management (Nelly) to the caretakers (Zara!), Well Senior…read moreCare (WSC) is a place where people matter -- for real. My old friend Mickey was at Well Senior from almost its inception until his recent passing. All his time at WSC, I was always in communication with the WSC folks as I was his local Power of Attorney and Medical transport and even disagreements were handled professionally. If you are looking for a Board & Care that feels more like a home; not an institution -- albeit for older folks who need assistance with meals, meds, and daily tasks -- It would be hard to do better. And, I looked throughout Los Angeles City and County for a month, so that is no exaggeration. Logistically and financially, they were at the top of my list as willing to make things work even with the bureaucracy of Medicare and the VA. WSC paid attention to their wards without pretending to know more than they did (medically or otherwise). Communication, Attentiveness & Empathy were exemplary and that is no small feat in Senior Care. (Apologies - I may have double posted this review due to a login problem!)
