Horrifying experience! We signed a contract with Bonneau to reshingle our roof for $5,992.50 plus tax. The crew stripped the roof completely and then insisted more work needed to be done, which was to increase the price to $25,000 plus tax. Our roof was 14 years old and we never experienced any water infiltration. We asked to proceed with the original scope of work, which was refused. Subsequently, the crew walked out leaving us with the predicament of an unprotected roof, but not before demanding payment. As seniors in our 80s, we felt targeted, coerced and intimidated, so we paid. We hired a new roofer, who is regarded as reputable and competent, to finish the job. He assured us, the additional work proposed by Bonneau was unwarranted. Contacting Bonneau for a partial refund for labour and materials, remained unsuccessful. The company claimed that our payment included the installation of new plywood. Only after insisting to provide proof, photos were sent, which clearly were taken of a different property. There was no apology offered or attempt made by Bonneau to resolve this. The whole experience has not just been frustrating, but has impacted us emotionally as well. Our last resort remains to seek help from the media, the Office de la protection du Consommateur and Small Claim Court. read more
