Meadow Lea Farm Coffee Shop - This local farm added a café about six months ago I heard.

I was asked if I ever had a proper English breakfast so we came to this relatively new café that's…read moresix months old. I was introduced to Black Pudding, an acquired taste for even the English- pigs blood and intestines mashed into a hockey puck. I have nothing to compare it to but a taste of it was good for me. It was crispy, soft like pudding and a bit sweet. I opted for the tuna panini which was terrific. I read it came with chips which I figured were fries but got actual potato chips which was fine I guess. Michael said his All Day Breakfast was spot on except for the sausage which he described as cheap or watery. The other lads said there's were fine and devoured it spite being hung over. Before breakfast I asked to walk past the gates to witness the sprawling fields. I was welcomed with a bit of apprehension and took a few photos as you may see. Apparently no one asks to go back into the farm. I breathed in the cool air and appreciated the beauty of the English horizon. I was met by the owner, Bill Williams, in a tractor who stopped me to have a bit of a chat. He is a funny man when he said the view was "alright" and there wasn't much to see. I learned the farm was 400 acres and how he had a kick travelling the California coast line several years ago. When I return to Chester I will be sure to come back and eat here and say hello.

The décor is very vintage; intimate yet not such that you couldn't enjoy a group evening here. There were old photos dotted around showing just how old this place is. As with all our taster menus, we opted for the accompanying wines too. Each course of food was delicious and very well presented. The wines certainly played their part in enhancing each dish. We haven't been here for a normal evening meal, but I would imagine that would get 5 stars too! We had heard so much about this place, not least because my wife actually scouted it out as a potential wedding venue way back when. Glad we were finally able to come!

I digress.. La Belle Epoque was easily the best wedding evening venue that I've had the pleasure of drinking too much at. The gorgeous design was filled with beautiful flowers and the architecture offered dining rooms, lounge chairs and sofas as well as a well-stocked bar and a diminutive yet purposeful dancefloor. All this in a town-centre, original old wooden building. Every course of the wedding meal was exceptional. A starter of sharp goats cheese tart was surpassed by an amazing tasting selection of lamb before a stellar creme brullee topped off a set of courses that would've been amazing just for one couple, let alone served simultaneously to 100+ people. The great food didn't end there, as luxury mini mince pies were dished out with fresh tea and coffee before much dancing and casino fun led to midnight snacks of superb lamb burger sliders. Those sliders!! To top the whole night off the local wedding DJ turned out to be 'Our Billy' from Bread (TV). He never told us that but we worked it out.... on one of the three times he played Barbara Streisand.

After a heavy night I took my friend here for brunch. On the outside it looks closed. Walking up the stairs exposes a open kitchen and large seating area with cacti everywhere and a cool kat clock over looking the place. The service was enjoyable from start to finish..90 percent of staff including the chef looked genuinely happy to be working there dancing to the music smiling as they cooked and served. It gave it a buzz! The menu consists of well..a American diner..from the special board I chose the maple pecan nut shake and the Benny crab cakes.. my friend had the spinach and poached eggs dish with fresh mint tea. The Shake was huge and yummy and while I waited for my food I kept seeing indulgent stacks of pancakes being whisked away. My poached eggs were oozy and perfect and the crab cakes.. well very crabby! And rich..to break it up there was water melon on the side which refreshed the palette. My friend really enjoyed hers too. I really want to come back here :( please extend your opening times!!
