I was greeted with courtesy and kindness upon my arrival. All my questions were addressed, and all of my needs were taken care of. The room is equipped with various creature comforts that made to stay more pleasurable, including a coffee machine, a hairdryer, an iron and an ironing board and even dry cleaning and laundry services. The bed was nice and comfortable and with the drapes closed and all the lights off room was pitch black which is good for getting a deeper rest when you sleep. I've stayed here countless times and my stay is usually fine. Unfortunately, a few of out of town guests got into a disagreement and things got a little heated in the lobby over night. No staff came to check on the loud commotion. Outside of that craziness, overall it was a great weekend in Duluth! read more

My brother made the reservations for us. I walked in and gave his name and was told everything was taken care of, easy enough. We were all pleased with the overall stay at this location. The rooms were a nice size and included a mini fridge and microwave (always a plus for me). I requested all the rooms to be cleaned the next day and they were on top of that by making the beds and replenishing the bathroom with clean towels. There is a pool, fitness center, laundry room and restaurant. Everything was clean and the staff was pleasant. We also used their shuttle service to get to breakfast each morning. I stay in the Marriott chain of hotels very frequently I am an elite member (diamond) and I use my app for everything so with that being said for all the stays I have during the year I never have to bring my Marriott charge card with me because I charge everything through the app this place would not accept that even though I was already checked in through the app. The lady at the front desk had a bad disposition in her way of explaining the situation and I didn't appreciate that either. After all that confusion I was issued a room I get upstairs and the room had dirty towels everywhere and fast food trash still inside it hadn't even been cleaned. So I head back downstairs and I got a "sorry I gave you the wrong room" after all that sass about the charge card I almost believe it was done purposely. Great hotel....very clean! Front desk woman was so sweet and helpful. My bed was amazing, and that's unusual for me to like a hotel bed. The only problem was the toilet is so low to the ground. Me being a 6 foot tall woman with arthritic knees, this was horrible. Will stay here again though. read more

I stayed here for one night for business and the staff was just great at checking us in. The rooms were very clean and neatly laid out. It is also located within walking distance of a couple of restaurants, so if you don't want to drive then you don't have to. The parking is very adequate as we had a moving truck and was able to find a spot. If we are in town then will definitely consider staying here again. read more

Really impressed with my stay at this location. I have stayed at a few Courtyard hotels in the past, but my typical go to is Hilton. Check in process seemed to be a little long and they didn't have our rooms ready (supposed to have by 3:00 and we checked in at 3:30). Staff was friendly and accommodation to make sure we were comfortable and got us into out rooms as quickly as possible. They did a great job of responding to the situation and communication. For that no deduction of a star. The lobby gives you the vibe of a modern facility, however it's interesting to see how the place is decorated. Décor is from the 20's and 30's with old phonographs, typewriters, etc. Modern for their day, but classic by todays standards. Rooms were large and spacious. I had the kind size room which, similar to Hilton, has a much larger bathroom. Again modern feel and excellent use of space. Refrigerator was build into a wall cabinet/closet. Not a great view from the room, but really had no plans to spend time looking at the view this trip. Provided a complimentary shuttle to and from the Infinite Energy Arena for the event we were attending (Roger Waters Us & Them). Two shuttle busses running back and forth made for a very short wait to get picked up for the show. Once the concert was over we waited less then 5 get loaded onto the shuttle. Great gym area on the main floor! small pool but some really great exercise equipment. Would have no issue building up a sweat and getting in a work out while here. Also, they have a small restaurant and bar area. Didn't try the food, however they have a ton of seating space and don't anticipate that will be an issue. Wouldn't mind coming back to stay for other events....The overall experience is top notch! read more

I eventually received a call back from the GM and she issued me a refund. It was still a very difficult situation being accused and charged for something you did not do but at least it was finally resolved. I still have concerns with staying at Marriott hotels in the future and suppose I must now have someone inspect the room prior to checking out to avoid any false charges. Hotel manager was not very nice or receptive when I questioned the charge but the GM was very professional, though I still got the impression she thought I was lying. Overall this is a nice hotel in a good location but the practice of charging guests $250 for a smoking violation is something they need to review. I would recommend calling the guest immediately if there was a problem with the room in lieu of sending them an invoice 14 hours later and just charging the card on file for the violation with no corresponding proof. read more

This is one of the best hotels I've stayed. Excellent interior - contemporary style decoration and super friendly staff. Staff provided a baby crib and blanket so that we didn't worry about carry squeeze with my baby on the same bed. The location is very convenient and only 10 minutes to Jusgo which is the one of the best Asian grocery markets. read more

1st the good. Very clean. Walking distance to infinite energy arena. 2nd the annoying. A) No free breakfast?!? B) Pull out sofa only sleeps one. C) we were given our room, went all the way to 6th floor. Found out it wasn't ready. They told us to come back down. We did. They told us to go back up because it was ready. We did. The staff was still in the room. D) fire alarm went off at 5am. E) did I mention no free breakfast? They said 'no, sorry. The place across the street does.' Overall, I should have done a better job of screening hotels before I jumped on this one. I guess I just expected more from a Courtyard Marriott. Avoid this hotel. No/late housekeeping due to being sold out. This is what the front desk told me. Obviously they can't keep up with demand. Toilet has run constantly and no one has addressed even though we called. New decor but doesn't make up for lack of service. My sons allergies were awful because obviously they let pets here. Breakfast takes forever due to being run by a semi Starbucks. I do not recommend this hotel. It does not live up to the Courtyard by Marriott standard I am accustomed to. read more

It's literally 2:30 in the morning right now as I write this review and I can still hear music and loud talking. Is this a Motel or a Hotel? The quality of this Courtyard Marriott Sugarloaf has diminished greatly. When a guest displays the "Do Not Disturb" sign, the hotel is now tying a bag of towels to the door. This is reminiscent of a motel vs a hotel. If the quality is lessening to a motel then the prices of Courtyard need to reflect the lesser price. No one wants to stay at a high priced hotel and see bags of towels tied to doors. Hotel Management, Christine and Brian, need to reevaluate this policy as it is not fitting for attracting a corporate executive clientele. The cleanliness of the hotel room was superb. Super impressed! Appeared to be brand new or newly renovated with a cozy back patio with a fire pit. Very nice lounge area and Bistro Bar. My room was inviting with a super comfortable bed! The staff were all very courteous and took the time introduce all of the amenities. The only bummer was there was no (free) breakfast. The Bistro served food though. I can understand why they would offer a free option...the Bistro wouldn't make any money. All in all, a please Marriott stay. read more

So far, nothing but a hassle. Hotel overcharged our card by nearly $300 more than what my receipt shows. Tried to handle it upon check-in, only to learn that it wasn't resolved at all. At 11 pm, still not resolved. We were told it would be handled in the morning, which means that more than half of our stay has been wasted dealing with customer service issues. Tonight, the front desk is trying to convince me that our rate is more than 2x what my actual receipt shows. Absolute nightmare to have our money tied up like this when we are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying ourselves with family. Pool is also shut down, so the kids are bummed. $660 for a two night stay is absolutely insane. I am hopeful that management will swiftly correct this situation, otherwise I will need to take further action. I booked this room in December, 6 months ago. We should never be dealing with an error of this magnitude in the middle of the night. We are Marriott Rewards Members and have never experienced such unprofessionalism at their properties. I will update after speaking to management in the morning. **Update*** Still not entirely resolved but I settled for a mediocre resolution just to expedite the process and salvage the remainder of our stay. Pool is still shut down for repair, so our two boys are bummed. Absolutely no maid service. Night shift female is the most rude customer service representative I've ever encountered, but the man with the bun is very apologetic for all of the hassles. I had to go to the desk for towels since nobody serviced our room today (door tag was on the bed, so that is no excuse). Front desk lady initially told me that they were out of towels, but she actually did find some. I said, "Thank you," to which I received no response...just rude. Marriott is our favorite hotel chain, but after this miserable experience, I will be "breaking up" with Marriott. Once we return home I will be reaching out to corporate just to inform them of the lack of professionalism from this location. Buyer beware: They will charge you more than what you agreed when you booked. They won't service your room. They won't use common courtesy or manners. And they won't inform you when their facilities are out of order. Over $200 per night and no maid service, no pool, and rude staff....seek another hotel if you are in the area. read more

The total lack of care and sloppy attitude to COVID health protocols, and the general malaise towards everythig, I experienced with all staff members during my stay here left me with zero confidence that the rooms were clean and sanitized and that they were aware of their responisibility towards the guests at this time. I would definitely NOT stay at this hotel EVER during COVID. There is no management of the situation, staff , are untraine and treat COVID like a joke. Receptionist and cleaning staff not only refused to wear masks, but they actually made fun of me for wearing mine. I came downstairs in the morning to find a large group of people sitting chatting in a circle in the lounge. Not one of them wore masks, and I had to walk past them all at close quarters to get coffee. When I realized they were ALL staff, I asked why they were not wearing masks and they started laughing. I asked if they thought COVID was a joke and the engineer, rather unbelievably stated laughingly "yes, we all think it is a joke. We have all worked together for a long time and we do not need masks." I asked if they were not concerned about protecting the guests, to which he laughed and said "no". The receptionist stood up to help me, I asked her to put on her mask, and she became very annoyed and refused. There were two small vinyl screens in place, but the receptionist did not stand behind either of the screens. There were also no spots marking a six foot distance between guest and receptionist, so guests could know where to stand, should they wish to keep social distance. Cleaning staff were not wearing gloves or masks, so if they happen to be sick when they clean your room, they will leave infected surfaces behind. At 10am I poured coffee which was ice cold, and was allowed to take an orange in lieu of the breakfast I had paid for. I understand the limitations of providing food right now, but the orange was moldy. The moldy orange and cold coffee are not important and forgivable, but the generally sloppy, careless attitude to everything leaves me with absolutely no confidence that they are taking care of the health of their guests, or are following CDC protocols for COVID. Should an infected guests occupy the room before you, there is no enforced gap between guests and I have no confidence in the disinfecting protocols. I actually called the main line and outlined the issues to them, asking for a call back. I was told someone "would get to it" (by which I understood sometime in the future, maybe never).. After 45 minutes of the phone with the agent, who was rather patronizing about my concerns, I was finally able to insist she call the hotel and ask them to wear masks. When I returned to the hotel that afternoon, I was greeted by a different receptionist, who was wearing a mask around her neck. She made no effort to put it on when I stepped up to her to ask a question. It is a bit concerning to stay at any hotel right now, but this hotel is particular worrisome, and my call to head office did not leave me with the feeling that the corporate office has been engaging with their hotels to impress on them the importance of saving lives, so this may be true of all Marriotts read more

Over the past two years, I have stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott more times than I can count and I will never stay anywhere else! In addition to what you want from a hotel - clean, updated (our team sits around the firepit after work and orders food from the bistro!), cozy & comfortable beds, great local restaurants and quick access to key highways - the hotel's management and staff are the best part! They know each of us by name, are respectful, helpful, flexible and accommodating. Christine, the manager, is responsive, helpful and it evident that she cares about each of her guests.
