GF and I love our adventures. After leaving a wedding in Rutland, we drove some scenic roads back…read moreinto MA. Part of the way home, we spotted the Twitchell House on the left side of route 30 as we were motoring South. The Twitchell House is seriously an entire house (and barn and tent and yard) full of antiques. We probably spent two hours poking through all the rooms, digging up all sorts of neat little trinkets. GF got a soldering iron shaped like a pistol and some funky tins. I got a mid-century cake tin for a baker friend, an old glass ink well, a set of 1920s fake pearls, a 1940s black fox muff that I am so excited to rock the hell out of this winter...I think that's all I got...but it definitely wasn't all I wanted to get. The owners are also pretty awesome, and super chatty. They love their collection and they've carefully labeled everything in the building. If you're ever in Southern Vermont looking for an adventure, this is definitely a worthwhile stop.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with the other reviewer...this place is amazing. Southern VT has a…read morelot of antiquing, but this place is the most bohemian. Prices were flexible and low, there wasn't a single item I looked at that I wasn't willing to pay full sticker price. We are trying to keep our place minimal and we have all of the furniture we need, but we did get these two amazing rugs. She did say that she usually doesn't do rugs, but that she got these on a gut feeling. They are in tough shape, and in need of a good cleaning, but they were a CRAZY good deal and exactly what I was searching for. If I were opening a restaurant or a boutique, or just looking to furnish my place, I would schlep up here as my first stop.

I can't praise this business enough. We called ahead to let them know we would be by. We were…read morepleasantly surprised by the property as it was a historic home and barn on beautiful land, with a country feel...wildflowers.. And rolling hills. The ladies were very kind and welcoming. We wandered thru the room in the home with many beautiful pieces. Prices were very fair and items were well organized. I immediately found a few pieces of jewelry that spoke to me.... They were able to answer my question about what stone was in my chosen bracelet And where it had come from..And asked them if I could set them aside so we could venture into the large barn and the many bins outside. The bins were .25¢ for each item..and my husband and I found several for our collection. Smaller items...but rare. The barn was very busy with many items to look at, several pieces we had never seen in other shops/locations. We brought our flashlights (as recommended here in another review) but there were motion lights set up which were helpful. The basement was dark... And we anticipated spiders and rodents.. But only came across rodent droppings ..some answer spiders and a good sized toad that startled my husband :)...But for a barn, it was full of history and very interesting.. just to walk around and look at the architecture...(if you realy like buying antiques you should also develope an appreciation of where they came from..including the homes, barns, familes. And structures that still hold up today. We had a nice talk with the ladies after purchasing our items (20% off by the way!!) They answered our questions about the age of the home and kindly asked us about ourselves, our chosen careers, and where we are from. We liked them very much. I highly recommend visiting them if in the are or looking for a road trip.. Easy to find with or without GPS. Good parking. I recommended just taking in the view of the home as it is absolutely beautiful..and property....

This place is, quite literally, a barn full of old stuff. A lot of it is junk (Reader's Digest…read morecompilations from the 1970s, etc.) but there are some great finds, too - maps, nineteenth-century novels, old photos, a working slide projector, etc. It can get pretty hot in summer and the lights aren't working throughout the barn - bring a flashlight, because you're going to want to venture into the small side rooms, up the stairs to the chair loft, and (if you're feeling brave) up the ladder into the book loft. The barn also has a basement accessible by walking around the barn, and slightly more fancy stuff is in the house, which is also where you go to pay. Prices are the definition of reasonable and up for negotiation. There's a pretty sharp turn-off to reach the store, so it can be easy to miss. Keep your eyes peeled!
