As I continued waiting tables and drinking massive amounts every night, she finished school, traveled to Thailand, and eventually left the service industry and started doing Thai Massage full time. Now, a few years later, I still work in the service industry, though now I drink less and work more. And Erin, my old roommate, is still traveling to Thailand to study the ancient art of massage and offering the most amazing massages at the Naga Center. I went to her a few months ago, super excited but kind of nervous--I had heard that Thai Massage was basically like yoga, with lots of stretching and crazy poses. I needn't have worried. My massage was AMAZING. The center was peaceful with soft background music, dim lighting, and gentle incense scents wafting through the air. Erin started moving me and pulling me and it was like a really peaceful intense workout. Sounds weird, but it was awesome. When she finished, I thought to myself, "Geez, that was a quick 30 minutes. I wish it could have gone on FOREVER." When I looked at my phone (because who wears a watch anymore?), I saw that the full 90 minutes had elapsed. I was in shock; it certainly didn't feel that long. These days, I'm still running around a restaurant, often for nine or ten hours at a time. There is no one I'd rather go to that Erin at the Naga Center to help center me and melt away the impact of stress. It is a little expensive, but it is so worth it. I haven't been to anyone else there, and I of course have my loyalty to my old roommate (Why couldn't she have done Thai Massage when we lived together? WHY?!....Ah well, probably for the best, as the alcohol seeping through my pores wouldn't have been pleasant for anyone.), but I have a feeling everyone who works there is fantastic. I wholeheartedly recommend The Naga Center, and especially Erin, to anyone in Portland who is looking for an incredible massage.

There's a lot of stretching and kneading and prodding and opening. A wonderful wet mound of herbs wrapped in linen was placed on my chest and then used on different parts of my body to create warmth. In addition I had a wonderful procedure called scraping done which is done with a blunt edge and oil on the back. Overall the massage was blissful and opening and releasing. I felt like I had some emotional blocks in my shoulder which were lovingly worked on. Highly recommended very professional and well worth the time and money

Tips are not allowed, and you're helping a student reach their hours to become a professional. In practice their administrative systems don't work. I made a reservation for their Shiatzu massage clinic - which they only offer twice on Thursdays - and received an appointment confirmation from their clinic coordinator. When I showed up 15 minutes early for my appointment, they said they had no record of me. The clinic coordinator was on vacation so they couldn't figure out what went wrong. I showed them the confirmation email on my phone, but there still was nothing they could do. Sorry 'bout that, thanks for coming. To their credit, I was treated in a professional, apologetic and courteous manner, and was presented with a gift certificate for a free massage at the clinic. But why would I waste my time to use it? Their hours are inconvenient if you work a typical M-F 8-5 work week, and they've already proven they have problems with their scheduling system. I don't think I will be taking time off from work for nothing more than an unpleasant drive down Barbur Boulevard.

I booked a couple's massage with them on a whim after a rough work week and the execution of our visit - from first contact to leaving the studio - was absolutely perfect. The customer service was top notch from the get go. There was some miscommunication on my part at first and Faye called my cell phone and texted me to work things out. The moment we walked in to Aqua Terra Massage, we knew we were in for a real treat. The space is beautiful, large, and clean - but also very unassuming and down to earth. It was luxurious in its simplicity. Faye and Erik introduced themselves, offered us each a glass of water, and discussed our needs before letting us choose our massage oils and leaving us to undress. The massage tables were kept warm the entire time and the head rest was covered in a comfy, plush velvet. Erik had my husband at "hello" - he had a very calm, soothing, voice that wiped all that week's stresses away. He was also highly knowledgeable and gave my husband tips for soothing sore muscles (he's a weight lifter, so he is always sore). After his massage, my husband felt no lower back pain and was able to get out of bed without wincing - the first in three years! Faye and I, surprisingly, had a very strong connection during my massage and we were very in tune with our deep breathing exercises. For a petite woman, she was very strong and consistent with my deep tissue massage. She hit all of my focus points and I felt so renewed. I didn't want to leave after our massages and told my husband, "Namaste here forever". :) We will definitely be back soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We communicated before the appointment to pick a style and color that I liked, and Savannah sent me pictures of several swatches she had tried with various options for my nails. She was super sweet and worked hard to give me a great manicure! I would highly recommend booking an appointment with her. The beauty school looks really nice inside, with areas for manicures, pedicures, makeup application, hair treatments, and facial treatments. I deducted one star because some of the other students made discouraging remarks about their hesitance to give pedicures and disgust of feet when witnessing a volunteer getting a pedicure. Making those types of comments in front of a client (the volunteer) was extremely unprofessional, and I felt bad for the woman who was getting her toes done.
