The Alton Antique Center is the antithesis of this! Its fun and bright as soon as you hit the doors. It smells fabulous inside and is like walking through a luxurious museum of the most amazing things from around the world. I was literally taken aback by how gorgeous it is inside. Their inventory is so far off the beaten path that even if you aren't in the market to buy antiques you should stop in and see the beautiful treasures they have brought together. Lucky for us thrifters, a new business called Terra-Cotta will be taking over. The reason I enjoy shopping at 3CC is I can find treasures at cheap prices. I love the bargains you can find at yard or estate sales, but I don't have the patience to drive around and shop them. That's why I love the ladies of 3CC, they do the shopping, buy the best offerings and bring them together at their showroom. Then I shop their boutique and get my goodies. Also within their showroom there are a variety of other vendors who offer; jewelry, greeting cards, jellies and clothing. It's almost like a famers market, but for home decor and clothing. While shopping, if you need to use the restroom, you will see a very stunningly beautiful non-gender specific bathroom. It's a deep green, has four separate stalls with floor to ceiling walls and three basins to wash your hands. I wish all public restrooms were this posh. The ladies who are the 3 Chicks, are charming and make shopping their showroom a fun experience.

Look for the large lit sign and banners, then pull in the shared driveway to a small private lot and get ready for a great shopping experience. The couple that operate the store were extremely friendly and helpful. They buy and sell! The store seems to specialize in glassware, ceramics, crystal, china, and other household items - but there are also toys, games, model trains, Disneyana, and even a beautiful Seeberg Jukebox waiting for their next proud owner! There's also some nice antique furniture, cabinets, chairs, bookcases and the like. No junk! Prices clearly marked! And the prices generally seemed pretty reasonable. And cabinets are unlocked so you can browse and select without needing to wait for the key!! We bought a full set of beautiful last century Christmas ornaments, an aluminum drinkware set, a 60's NASA commemorative glass, and a pair of beaded pears for about $30!! The employees swore it worked because they had plugged it in before the sale. It didn't work. Now The family has no tv and I'm out money. I'll never shop with one of their sales again. I don't trust them.

The first thing you notice here is the smell. It is SO musty! Not just like "old antiques"…read moremusty, but wet, moldy-musty. It is also freezing cold. It is a big old building, but I don't think they turn on the heat. They have a lot of things, but many of the same items have been in the same spot for years---with the same prices. In fact, most of the things are over-priced. And you need to be careful, as they may be overpriced AND damaged. Too bad, because there are a number of things we might get consider, but the price is a deterrent. We always stop in here when we come to Alton, I guess hoping for a different experience, and each time we come away with the same thought. Dark, dank and overpriced. Oh well. Lucky for me, yesterday I was having lunch in E-ville, so I made a point to stop and see what they had to offer. OMG! If you need silly fun yard decor or if you are into Farmhouse decor for your home, you've got to shop here. There is stuff everywhere and it's all rustic and vintage looking. The creative side of my brain was working at warp speed trying to figure out where I could use many of the items. The couple working were a true mom & pop team.
