It was also nice to talk to the people who walk their dogs down the trail. If you actually follow that trail over the bridge there is a "workout" area and some more beach front spots to relax at. Compared to other campgrounds we went to this one was very much appreciated. It was quiet, well priced, and beautiful. Be sure to bring everything that you need with you, as the nearest town is Duncan which is about a 18 minute drive. There are some areas nearby to pick up supplies but overall it's pretty hit or miss if you're shopping down the road. (We were alright with that though.)

This was not my favorite camp spot but that's because my preference is to be a little deeper in the woods with a lot less people. Loved the dance party on Saturday night. A tiny community subsisting on "tourist" dollars from Canada (man, I sure hope they are doing alright, with the borders being closed due to COVID), Point Roberts was a bucket list item of mine, being one of the few enclaves in the US. Due to a geographic anomaly placing the peninsula below the 49th Parallel, it requires two border crossings (and a passport) to reach it by land. Canadians often come here for the cheap gasoline and liquor (truly the hallmarks of American culture!), and to park their yachts and boats cheaply. My wife and I spent an afternoon walking the beach, with the warm sun on our face, and a few Canadian families enjoying American FREEDOM nearby (yes, I am being cheeky). There are some covered patio spaces with tables for such activities, and although they are quickly claimed, you can pretty much setup a picnic anywhere: there are plenty of logs that will serve the same purpose. I can't say what it's like during the "busy" season, but during our visit in mid-August, the atmosphere was jovial, the people were pleasant, and there were no crowds whatsoever. Lighthouse Marine Park is the perfect, quiet seaside escape for those looking for a peaceful beach in which to relax on a warm day with family and friends.

It is not as cold unless it is a windy day. So definitely bring a jacket. The walking trail round the coast is not very long and it will probably take about an hour or less for a slow stroll. There are many birds - crows and gulls. There is a lighthouse which is not a pretty building. It looks very basic and is not a tower like building. This is also the whale migration route. But I have yet to see any whales or the seals or sea lions or porpoises. So sad. I have only seen ducks bobbing along near the shoreline. When the weather is nice, this is a good place to just sit on the many benches and chill, looking at the sea. For kids, there is a "fort" made of branches and twigs. I have seen many children having fun there, climbing up to the top or adding more branches to fortify it. I also saw a group of children with their teachers or some adults with garbage bags cleaning the shore area. Kudos. But generally the place is clean, I do not see much garbage left behind.

The staff is friendly when you encounter them, and unintrusive the rest of the time. The toilets are outhouses, but have been built and decorated in such a way that you'd never know it was just a hole in the ground. And the outdoor shower was great, albeit cold (but exactly what that day needed). The trail that runs through the campground leads to a great park, which in turn leads to Ganges, and is a nice, quiet stroll. I would recommend this place to anyone staying on SSI, and not wanting to shell out for a B&B.

I recommend taking Highway 1A and driving through the little towns of Chemainus (stop here if you have time, otherwise admire the many murals from your car), Saltair, and Ladysmith. 1A will take you to the Duke Point Ferry Terminal, or you can spend some time in Nanaimo and find the best Nanaimo bar (look up the Nanaimo Bar Trail and you'll find many suggestions for who sells them). Situated on a windy finger of land that shares Jack Point and Biggs Park, the ferry terminal itself is well organized and about 20+ lanes across. Buy your tickets online to save time and make sure you get to there an hour before departure. At the window, you can pay your fare or the agent will scan the prepaid barcode In your email. You are then assigned a lane. You can wait in your car or get out and walk around, grab a snack, use the restroom, take in the view, or pose with two orca statues flanking the walkway to the terminal. On the day we were there, two tents were set up with local arts and crafts. A large digital sign gave sailing information and PSAs about COVID safety. When it was time for everyone to board, an announcement was made asking us to return to our vehicles. About 10 or 15 minutes later, attendants guided us to the awaiting ferry.
