It was a Saturday, and the first quoted him over a hundred dollars higher, and said they had no availability left for the day. Midtown Mobile quoted over a hundred dollars less, and would be able to come out in about 2 hours. Well that was a no brainer to start. I didn't even know that this service was available whereby the vet comes to your home. How much better is that? Your pet isn't unduly stressed, and everyone can be there. Doggy was a 13+ year old German Shepherd, so she had a good run. The call taker asks some preliminary questions before the vet comes out. Dr. Kate arrived just before schedule and was kind, professional, patient, compassionate. She asked a few more questions and assessed doggy. She fully explained what would be involved. She gave some recommendations to make doggy comfortable and gave us as much time as we needed to spend for our farewells. She asked if we would be keeping doggy for burial, or needed her taken away. It was a 3 step process and for the first step, she asked if we wanted to feed the gel to doggy. It's administered by syringe and is absorbed in the gums. It's basically a sedative. My daughter's father took care of it and Dr. Kate explained what we could expect. The second step is an anaesthetic injection which would also make her drowsy. Dr. Kate shaved a little patch to find a vein and administered it. She gave a good 5 minutes to let it work, and again gave as much time as we wanted before proceeding with the final step. The last step is an injection to stop the heart. It was very emotional, but Dr. Kate was very kindly, gentle and careful. She waited several minutes watching and assessing. After a few minutes, she said she hadn't seen any breathing for some time, and physically assessed her to confirm. Once she could see we were ready, she asked whether we wanted a paw imprint and clippings for a keepsake. Absolutely, yes. She rolled out the clay and took the imprint. She asked whether we wanted clippings from any particular or special spot, or anything else in particular. She put the clippings in a little heart shaped tin with a clear lid, and gave us a package which also contained a little bookmark and pin, and a guide for grieving the loss of your pet published by the Ontario veterinary authority. For such a sad and emotional experience, it was a silver lining to have a professional like Dr. Kate handle the procedure. I would 100% recommend her service to anyone facing this difficult decision.

I had a terrible experience with Midtown Mobile Vets about a year ago. I was grieving the loss of…read moremy cat, so I didn't want to post a negative review in case it was my emotions talking. After much time has gone by, I have decided that it was still an awful experience, and I think it would be valuable to people who don't have much time left for their animal. My sweet kitty of 21 years was going to die very soon. I went to the Midtown Mobile website and filled out the online form, giving the details of our situation. We got an automated response right away, but over 2 weeks later, I still hadn't heard back from anyone there, so I finally emailed them and let them know that our situation was pretty dire, and asked what the timeline would be to expect to hear a response from them. I was rudely told by the person responding basically what their operating hours were, and I'd hear back from them during their operating hours. The tone was as if I had been hounding them for the appointment! I had waited for over 2 weeks; I thought I HAD been patient. I was already feeling so emotionally vulnerable. I couldn't believe how rude they were. And, to add: they never got back to me, ever!!!!! I ended up reaching out to another clinic who had someone respond to me within a day. The tone at the other clinic was kind and empathetic, but unfortunately because I had waited for so long for a response from Midtown Vets, the next appointment at the nice mobile clinic was too far away- our kitty wouldn't last that long. We ended up putting our kitty down at her regular vet- not the way I wanted this to go. It seems everyone loves this vet, but I still have a pang of anger and despair over how rude Mobile Vets were to me, and how they ignored me during probably the most painful time of my life.
