what an awesome course. and i'm not just saying that because i dropped a 70' putt for birdie on…read morethe 460 yard par 5. ok, maybe i am just a little bit. the lady and i were able to take advantage of a groupon - $40 for 18 and a cart - and drove down for a spot of golf on a cool, windy sundy afternoon. although it's on the cape, it only took us about an hour to get here from the q, so you can definitely do a day trip here. the set up here is great. the course feels really long, but maybe that's just because i'm used to playing par 3 courses - a trend which may have happily ended. i played the white tees while the lady enjoyed a significant distance advantage from a majority of the reds. the par 3's are extremely tight and challenging, the 4's require some thinking, and the 5's are long and wide open. grip it n' rip it, baby!! the par 3 9th has the only water you run into on the course and is probably the signature hole. you can find the sand as well on many holes, but the real challenge here is the change of elevation. it is not uncommon to have to pitch *up* 30 or 50 feet to the green from 100 yards out. to practice, i recommend trying to hit your 9 iron through a 4th floor window. or something. quick practical note - the address here is 48 theatre drive, east falmouth. the course's website lists the town as "hatchville," but east falmouth worked in my nav.

Honestly so tough to have to leave this I was looking for a way to add a review through google so…read moremore see this but I can't. Book a nice outing for me and my friends couple first time golfers. After a good first 9 proceeding in under general pace of play time we were approached on hole 14 by a ranger. Guy was freaking pissed. Clearly didn't like that a group of young men were playing a nice round with a couple of first timer comes over to us and starts busting our chops about pace of play. This is the first time we saw or talked to this individual and he just came at us firing. What started as a very normal conversation to just pick up the pace, escalated into somewhat of a threat from this loser who clearly didn't get his frustrations out within the first couple words he said. We carried on and then our nice kind ranger buddy that we met before shows up again the next hole . What does he expect for something to change after 1 hole. Eventually he came back on the 16th hole and started clapping at us, something that I felt was incredibly disrespectful especially on the golf course acting like we're a bunch of lost sheep that he needs to heard in. At this point I was so sick of this tool that I honestly started playing slower just out of pure frustration. Guy doesn't have an ounce of grace in his body and even if he did certainly not for us. Wish I took his name because I would be dropping it in full fashion right now and honestly I would hope the course would see this. I give it 2 stars because it's a nice course for pretty cheap but if you want to be respected or have a nice time with your group apparently this isn't the place for you. Only way i'll ever go back is if I get to give that bozo a piece of my mind. Childish behavior, maybe don't send out 6 groups within 3 tee blocks of time and you won't hit a backup. Embarrassing

I can guarantee that good percentage of people that read this may ask themselves, "Where is…read moreOsterville?" It is a quaint little village in Barnstable, MA with heaps of "old money" and traditional Cape Cod charm. Although I have lived my entire life in Massachusetts, I had never heard of, let alone stepped foot in Osterville until last weekend when I worked at a wedding at Oyster Harbors Club; a private, members only club. Let me preface this review by saying that it is based solely on my experience as an outside vendor working at the club - not as a member or guest. I work as an assistant for a boutique event planning and consultation firm, and we recently coordinated a wedding reception held at this venue. The club itself is beautiful - tall ceilings, crown molding, beautiful carpets and hardwood floors, a large ballroom, a fabulous patio with gorgeous lawns and water views... even the bathrooms were gorgeous! It was easy to see why the couple fell in love with this venue. The bride's family had a close friend who was a member and offered to sponsor the couple (non-members) so they could have their wedding there. It was apparent that the catering staff and management was not accustomed to working with outside coordinators, but overall, things went smoothly. Here's my biggest complaint about this venue: During a wedding, vendors (wedding coordinators, assistants, DJ's, band members, etc.) are offered dinner. Vendors typically work a 10-15 hour day for a wedding and don't have another opportunity to eat, so many of them actually require a meal in their contracts; it is considered standard practice in the industry. They are usually fed whatever meal the guests receive, or a suitable, albeit less expensive alternative consisting of a protein, vegetable and starch. The hosts of the wedding are charged for each vendor meal that is ordered. That being said, my colleagues and I sat down to have our meal during this wedding and were completely shocked when we were offered a lunch-sized portion chicken Caesar salad! We weren't even given bread or water to accompany the meal! Normally, I would not complain but since we coordinated the wedding, we were well aware of how much money the bride and groom paid for each vendor meal... and a chicken Caesar salad was simply unacceptable for the price they were charged. While I would not consider myself an "expert" in the food service industry, but I have worked for a number of higher end restaurants, yacht clubs and catering companies in Boston and Martha's Vineyard over the last 10 years. Never in my experience as an assistant or even as a server was I ever given salad to sustain me through a 12 hour workday. I sincerely hope that Oyster Harbors Club does not make this practice routine, and I urge those who plan to hold an event at this venue to request a detailed cost breakdown for the guest and vendor meals from management.

The parking lot was nearly empty when we arrived -- maybe 25 cars of which probably 10 were from the folks in our group -- and even when we finished, the number of cars had only about doubled. We rarely saw anyone in front of or behind us, even though we had four foursomes playing in an outing with consecutive tee times. In other words, the course was far from busy. The course layout is challenging -- very hilly, with several blind shots that naturally slow down the pace of play. Course conditions were acceptable overall, though a number of tee boxes were in terrible shape and clearly neglected. Still, we came to enjoy the day and make the best of it. So imagine our surprise when, at the turn, the starter decided to send a single player out directly in front of our group, forcing us to wait. That decision alone made little sense, but we were still patient and polite about it. That single player later realized he was in the middle of our foursomes who were having a golf outing and so he very cordially headed back to the clubhouse. And then, while we were still playing our final hole, someone from the Pro Shop actually came out to the course to make a sarcastic comment -- asking if we had "gotten lost" -- implying that we were playing too slowly. Again, there was hardly anyone on the course. The arrogance and lack of basic courtesy was jaw-dropping. Things went downhill fast after we finished our round. When we returned our golf cart, we parked it in the same general area as several others that had been returned before ours. Moments later, the person running the Pro Shop stormed outside and began loudly berating us because we hadn't parked the cart in the exact "designated" spot they apparently had in mind (which was just a few feet away from where we had parked it). There was no reason for this outburst from that Pro Shop employee. The confrontation escalated quickly into a shouting match, turning what had been a nice day into an uncomfortable and embarrassing scene. It's hard to understand how a public golf course can treat paying customers with such disrespect. We weren't loud, rude, or disruptive -- we were just trying to enjoy a casual outing on the golf course. Instead, we were made to feel very unwelcome by their staff. Until the management at Sandwich Hollows completely rethinks how they treat their guests, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. There are dozens of other courses on Cape Cod that understand how to run a golf facility and treat golfers with the respect they deserve. This one clearly does not.
