I'm not an extrovert nor a huge shopper at all...and very much have been buying things online under my comfort from home + computer than subjecting myself to interacting with a salesperson at a mall. But finally, I stopped by Cottonwood Mall because I had an appointment to attend and was too lazy to drive back home. So, I figured I would just kill some time at a mall instead. The mall itself was ok. Frankly, it reminded me of how much time and habits of people had changed over the years. The mall didn't have too many people..it was more like a gathering of groups of people just so they could interact/hang out together...rather than a place to go buy/get something (e.g. shopping mall). I felt like more than half the shops inside the mall were either empty/closed or had no foot traffic. Most people seemed to congregate around food court, which had smaller ticket prices and people could sit/interact. I ended up sitting around the food court, and doing my things, too. Got my paleta from Paleta Bar....but beyond that..there wasn't really much to do. I accomplished my tasks of spending about a little over an hour there at a mall before my appointment...but...I wouldn't really think of going back there again to get something. I mean...to me...online shopping is king..save me all the time/hassle of driving..and I can pick/choose anything I want...get real/honest feedback/reviews from other people before making my purchases. What more not to like about online. So...all in all, nothing against Cottonwood Mall..it's just...that physical shopping stores don't really attract me so much anymore..unless the place has unique shops or offers unique experiences for me. read more

This is dying mall. Even on Saturdays, the foot traffic is so low one wonders how businesses can keep operating. The food court restaurants are so desperate they no longer give you tap water with your meal if you don't want soda or bottled water, something that's unheard of in a successful establishment. Things are so tragic, they've had to stoop to that to try to squeeze a few extra dollars out of your pockets and into their tills. There are some good stores, especially if you're into collecting Funko and anime and the like, but how they keep the lights on and employees paid is a mystery. Visit midweek and it's surreal how quiet it is. A lot of empty retail space, and for good reason. It's sad because it's a brighter and nicer mall physically and aesthetically than Coronado, but the latter is a hell of a lot more fun. read more

Are indoor malls becoming a thing of the past or is this one in its final throes and death knell? Maybe it's the inevitable wasting away effects of COVID. Maybe a combination of each of these. But for whatever reason over the past 4 years I've watched a steady decline of businesses and their eventual closure. Cottonwood holds many of the staples seen in most typical malls. Yet many of the big names are gone. Ben Bridge, the Disney Store, FootAction, Macy's, Cinnabon, and Yankee Candle to name a few. These have been replaced by more locally owned business - some great and others maybe not so much. In days past all shops were required to be open during mall business hours, the mall still has set hours, but shops are free to set their own. This means the store you want to buy from may be closed. For me, the tell is how many stores have permanently closed and for lease signs are taped over paper or wooden window coverings. There are an inordinate number of those. So it's nice for an indoor stroll, and a few specialty stores. But it's lacking in most other areas. read more

I'm getting a little disappointed as time goes by with this mall. They used to have really good stores that keep leaving. I'm not sure if it's the rent or lack of business but it's getting to the point where the only perk to this mall is there aren't lines especially at Christmas. But if they don't have stores you like what's the point. Side note: The restrooms by the food court are horrible. Dirty and the doors don't lock. read more

Cottonwood Mall in Rio Rancho is a recent Simon purchase. The Simon Property Group owns 325 shopping malls across the United States, Canada, Japan, Brazil, Mexico, South Korea, and Puerto Rico. It's a big, public company. But it still has the feel of a local presence in most of it's mall outlets. I initially visited the ABQ Uptown Center, Simon's other property in Albuquerque. I wanted to buy some gift cards for Christmas presents, so imagine my surprise when I found out the Uptown doesn't even have a customer service center! I found this out the hard way by searching high and low, calling security and admin (neither answered the phone), and finally asking a seasoned worker in one of the stores about customer service. She was helpful and told me that I would need to drive to Rio Rancho, to Cottonwood Mall, to buy those darn gift cards. She knew that Cottonwood had been recently purchased by Simon, and that they indeed did have a customer service kiosk. The next day, I drove up to Cottonwood and was surprised at the conventional nature of this mall. It looked like any other indoor mall in America! Some of this is attributable to the age of this mall, but I'm hoping that Simon will give it a complete make-over soon. The young lady working at the Cottonwood Customer Service kiosk was very friendly and nice, and complained a little about getting calls all the time about Uptown ABQ. Of course, she wasn't on that property, so couldn't answer most questions. She was working at Cottonwood! In addition to buying Simon gift cards, I spent about an hour shopping at Cottonwood. The mall was busy, but not as busy as I expected given the upcoming Christmas holidays. Pictures with Santa got the most action, as to be expected, I guess. read more

Neat mall constantly changing. I remember the last time I was there Macy's had just left. It seemed like after that the place became a ghost town with many vacant spaces. This time around I saw about maybe 3 vacant spaces. The rest of the mall was filled with so many stores and options to choose from. They have a little bit of everything for everyone. The food court had some new restaurants. Charley's and the Paleto place. I was going to eat at Charley's until I came up to the register and the woman told me they were out of the meat for the Philly Cheesesteak. Their main item! Maybe it was the hunger talking but I have to say that made me quite upset. Luckily this mall has many other options and I settled with the Burger King. I will definitely be returning! read more

Cottonwood Mall - Albuquerque, NM This was THE place to be when I was a kid. I remember when it was built, and I never ever got to go because it was too far away as an Eastside kid. As an adult, I have frequented here so much more often. I do really enjoy this mall, though lately it is starting to look like a ghost town. I'm going to base this review off of my most recent trips here. I came before Christmas, and I was pleased that even though it was busy, it didn't feel insane, and I didn't feel unsafe. I don't always feel that way at the other mall across town... We actually just came in here again last night, and it was such a ghost town though. So many stores are closing and there was almost no one in the mall. I hate to see it failing, but it doesn't seem like this mall will be around much longer. I love that they are so dog friendly though! You always see pups walking through the mall with owners, they have a dog park, and Watermelon Mtn. Ranch has a thrift store here with some adoptable dogs. It's good to see that even in 2019 some places will allow pets, because so many seem so against it (which I understand at times). This mall is always pretty clean, and it seems well lit, with good security. I do enjoy this mall, and I hope it stays open in the coming years! read more

Not really much into shopping at the mall especially around the holidays because of how busy it gets. When I do decide to visit the mall its usually clean and the maps around the mall make it easy to find what I am looking for. The parking lot can get really packed around the mall especially around Christmas time. I usually just go to Dillard's when I come to this mall, but last night my girlfriend decided to take a little cruise up and down the whole property. I would say we saw tumbleweeds blow by us, but the mall was too clean to have that happen. This mall has been having a difficult time with tenants and the issue seemed to be with Simon Properties. Recently Simon sold Cottonwood and apparently the new mgmt is worse. There are still some of my favorite stores like Dillard's, Express, and Ulta; but there are also many great local vendors as well that inhabit this mall. Many of the local vendors are giving this mall a shot because Coronado rents are ridiculous and only cater to the big box brands. So if you like to support locals, like I do, give this mall a shot or try to think about this mall in a different light... Here's the lining, it's a good place for people that like to walk; great surface for walking, security inside and out, medical equipment available for emergencies, restrooms and you're not exposed to the elements. I don't believe it's because of the low occupancy that the mall is really clean, because I saw employees cleaning or emptying trash everywhere we were. The restrooms were really clean, one of the main judging points for me. The most KID FRIENDLY mall; Fallout Trampoline Park, your kiddos won't get ringworm from the children's play zone (they had someone cleaning it while I was there), they have a beautiful carrousel, black light mini golf, a kiosk that rents mechanical animals to ride around, a gaming store, and a much more safe environment than Coronado. Depending upon the season they usually have a photo opportunity station. Easter is upon us so they had a beautiful garden backdrop with the Easter Bunny ready to take photos. The staff really took time to get a good picture for the parents of the four children who were struggling with their Easter spirit. Again, you're supporting locals and that's what makes Albuquerque such a great place to live. We support each other! read more

Update: Yesterday, 3/19/20, I was notified yesterday, that #Dillard's made a decision to close all their stores until 4/10, due to the coronavirus/Covid_19 pandemic. I am grateful, as well as (I feel certain), their employees, customers & communities/city govt by doing their part in this time of crisis. Thank you Dillard's. Review of Dillard's at Cottonwood Mall: I hope you will join me in boycotting this Dillard's in Albuquerque, as well as the other stores. I have shopped at Dillard's most of my life, but never will again. I guess Dillard's doesn't value their employees, or the public by causing a health risk to those who work &/or shop at their stores during coronavirus pandemic. The Cottonwood Mall is closed starting 3/19/20, due to a mandate from the Governor of New Mexico that all malls be closed to protect the public from coronavirus epidemic, but it seems that Dillard's found a loophole so they could stay open. Putting profits above people during coronavirus pandemic. If you ask me, it certainly sounds like it. I have a friend who is a caregiver to her mom (high risk of getting coronavirus) & also works for Dillard's. She needs her job with Dillards because that is her only income! She is in her 40's, but new research says this demographic is also at risk if she gets the coronavirus. There could be irreparable damage to her organs if she gets the virus. And, it is a high probability of a risk of death to her mom, if she contracts the virus from her daughter. Her daughter may get the virus at work, not even know it, and bring it home to her mother. Tell me how she keeps a safe distance (3-6 feet) from her mom as a caregiver!! I am FURIOUS at Dillard's putting their communities at risk of spreading the coronavirus!! Am I going to have an EMERGENCY & need an evening gown, jewelry & lipstick to wear AT HOME??? I think not!!! It has been all over the news from our nations' leaders to stay home to keep coronavirus from spreading!!! When I read an article on Bloomberg about the "dying American mall" or how well Amazon is destroying the competition, Cottonwood Mall is what comes to mind. Twenty years ago in the heart of suburban Albuquerque, this mall was the sh*t. Retailers are leaving. Vacant stores are no longer replaced with Rastafarian shoppes, not even. These are different times. Macy's is leaving now. Sears is probably next. The stores of our parents and grandparents are leaving us. Cottonwood Mall keeps getting more spacious and roomy for the bulldozer to come through and I feel bad there's no way to put it in reverse. On the flip side, there are still a few great stores. Dillard's and Ulta are the reasons I return. Times are changing fast and though this Mall holds steady, offering options to westsiders, it lacks the luxury and modernity of malls on the east. Great selections of stores & it's a lot better than Coronado mall in my opinion. When you compare the same stores from Coronado mall, they have more selections here. For example I was looking for gowns & dresses for a ball I had to attend & the stores here had a wider selection. Another plus is they have a kids play area on the first floor. read more

We love coming out here to cottonwood mall sometimes to shop sometimes to catch a movie which this theater is great because these seats recline and are comfortable or sometimes we come just to hang out and eat this is definitely my favorite mall for shopping. read more

The Cottonwood Mall is the closest mall to me and has all of the stores in it I would expect from a mall. There is plenty of available parking close to the building so that is never an issue. They have a nice food court as well. The mall is relatively new so it still has a clean, modern look to it. The mall is conveniently located between Coors and 528 for easy access off of both highways. For those who didn't know, it is the site of a former regional airport. You will notice one of the bordering roads is Old Airport. read more

This is a solid mall to visit. The anchor stores include Macy's, Dillard's, and JCPenny. The mall was clean and didn't have hardly any vacant spots. There seemed to be an over abundance of shoe stores and hair salons but that might be your thing. The food court offers the standard offerings meaning I didn't see a sit down type restaurant connected to or in the mall. In comparing here to the Coronado Center, this mall seems to be less crowded but is slightly smaller. read more

I like Cottonwood Mall. It's a trip to go over to the Westside but there are stores there that Coronado and Winrock don't offer. They have an Old Navy, Build a Beat and movie theater. The food court is huge with a great selection for snacks and lunch. There is a playground and arcade for the kids. There are all the common department stores and they have Yankee Candle shop!! Go make the trip to Cottonwood Mall for a different mall experience than those in ABQ. read more

I really wish I could give Cottonwood a higher rating, but, this mall is lacking a lot of things. More options in terms of clothing stores would be awesome. I'm positive it has four Journey stores alone through out it. A little excessive, personally. I guess it needs to step it up a little bit in terms of various companies they have to offer. Sure, I can drive all the way to Coronado, which I do from time to time, but it's frustrating to go all the way across town when the mall down the street doesn't have the sort of shops you're looking for. I can give a thumbs up though for some of the food places in there. Even doe it's way smaller and has less stuff than Coronado Center, I like it more! The stores selection is acceptable and the mall is much cleaner, enjoyable and entertained. The Sears looks a little bit ghetto doe. The food curt is limited, but the cinema is a plus. Parking isn't an issue as well. I think it's a decent spot for a cold, rainy or hot af day. read more

Very good place to come if you have kids. People sight seeing. Large food court with everything from yogurt to pizza to Burger King and my favorite the Asian food place by the hot dog stand. Even a playground for kids. My daughter loves to come here and it's nicer than Coronado. I would however avoid this place at Halloween and during the holidays, it gets so crowded and there is no parking spaces. Very nice mall though. read more

The mall its self isn't to bad a lot of stores have closed . I went to t mobile to up grade my phone . I walked in there was one girl working with a customer. No hi how ya do or nothing . I walked out came back about 10 minutes later same girl working with the same couple there was a Male employee this time ducking around with a tablet . The girl says hi I say ho that's it no help . I walk out come back a third time the girl confronts me at the door welcome back what's up I say you tell me she says you walked in here . Just poor customer service se couple is on the store she tells me it will be another 5 minutes until they can help me what 2 people to do a receipt . She had those disgusting holes in her ears after she told me what up I felt like grabbing those disgusting things and sling shot her punk ass across the store . Pretty decent mall in general. Every store your average person needs (even some borderline ok local stores included). The metro barbershop is one of the best designed shops I've seen. Think about that. Only thing I would complain about is there is not a "Lidz" hat store. Call me "old fashioned" but that's how I roll. Landscape is pretty good. Even for abq standards. read more

Some of the stores I did not recognize but what can you expect. They have a small food court (no McD's) and I hate the parking!
