We have not been satisfied with this place for years. Our mistake, for continuing to give them our business, with our two dogs. Today was the last straw. They have terrible front desk people. They have no manners, no capability to joyfully greet you upon arrival, no smiles, no customer service skills. If you are spending thousands of dollars for a procedure, they better greet you with a smile!!! In appearance, the facility looks old and dirty. In the individual rooms, they tape air filters onto other air filters onto the AC units. What??? We had one of our dogs neutered there. The stitch job on him was horrible. The Vets seem to be competent, but their staff make each visit unbearable. read more

Our regular vet was booked for several days, and we were sure our dog had an ear infection, so we went to Cottage Vet as we could get in that day. Everything went fine, but I was surprised the vet didn't listen to my dog's heart--the exam he performed was cursory. Dog did have an ear infection, appropriate meds were prescribed (I'm a long time dog owner, so I knew the treatment protocol) and our bill was reasonable. We'll go here again as needed, but I'm not persuaded to make this our regular vet. read more

What started out as a good experience with Dr. Spiro was quickly soured with his treatment of my husband and I as the pet owner, but his poor treatment of our dog. Poor quality and outrageous prices. I took my dog here for ear taping. Over the phone the receptionist claimed they had an expert and we paid ahead $30. When I arrived, the doctor explained he wasn't sure how to do it or was sure if he even could. He used a few yards of tape in about five minutes and I was charged an additional $60. Not only has the Quality of care gone down let alone the care of the facility, I put down my third animal through this vet visit it came in a cheesy very thin non-sealed little wood box that had a plastic bag inside of it that was ripped when I opened up the bag my dogs ashes went all over my bed and in my face, And they do not care. They literally told me they have no control over what is delivered to them through their vendor. OK if that is the fact then maybe they should change your vendor but they will not do that because they want to get the cheapest service even though their prices have gone up by 75% since the last time I put my other dog down. I just started using this clinic for the rescue I volunteer for. After seeing my latest foster and spaying her weeks later, we called and asked for a full diarrhea panel. I took the first sample in and, unfortunately, it froze, so I had to take a second sample in. I dropped the second sample only to be told that they would NOT run the sample without seeing the cat...AGAIN. WTF kind of bait and switch is this place running? The excuse they gave was that it was a corporate policy. BS. This is just another way for them to scam more money out of the rescue and I'll be using a different vet moving forward. It's such a shame that there are no decent vets in Douglas County willing to help rescues. It's shameful. read more

We just adopted a new puppy from Big Bones Canine Rescue, and with that came a free check up to Cottage Veterinary Hospital. From the moment we entered with Moose, our rescue, it was a 5 star experience! The girls at the front desk were extremely friendly & welcoming, and after Moose got weighed we were brought right to our exam room. No waiting at all. Dr. Fabrick was the vet that saw us, and she was extremely nice & definitely well experienced. She was very thorough in her exam of our new pup, so much so that in the time we were there, we decided that this would be our steady vet to see our pack. We're extremely happy with this doctor, and we look forward to her taking care of our dogs. Plenty of on street parking on Main Street, and they also have a small parking lot for clients. To top it off, I received a phone call from Dr. Fabrick today (Saturday) to check up on Moose's cough. That's what I call caring about your patients! read more

I wanted to give a huge shout out and recommendation to Cottage Vet in downtown Parker. I had an emergency with one of my dogs last weekend, and they were able to see my dog IMMEDIATELY a hour before they closed, without even being a patient there prior. (My previous vet couldn't take us to no fault of their own). They could have easily sent me to Cottonwood but they didn't even hesitate to care for my dog. And they were BUSY! Dr. Spiro and his staff have been nothing but attentive, caring and have gone above and beyond to make sure my dog has been doing okay. They are also UNBELIEVABLY inexpensive compared to several vets in the area. I brought in my other dog for his yearly exam/shots and they got him an appointment right away as well. We took our dog in to be spayed and were immediately put off by the intake tech at the front, she was loud, rude, condescending and not a great first impression for any medical facility. We dropped our dog off at 8:30 and she was not even seen until noon. She was not spayed as she appeared "ill" to the vet although she is a very healthy dog. They shaved spots on all 4 legs, giving her razor burn and sticking her multiple times in each leg before they finally called us to pick her up because they couldn't get her sedation line in her veins! My dog was without food and water for 18+ hours, kept in a crate for multiple hours before being seen, I know is necessary but she absolutely hates crates, sedated and poked multiple times (6-10 scars on each shaved spot on every leg). I feel like my dog was just tortured for the day then sent home. I will never take my dogs here again and am grateful that she wasn't spayed as I don't feel confident they would have done a good job. In addition to that, I cannot get the vet to respond to refill a medication for my other dog despite being contacted multiple times from me and the company refilling the meds. Save yourself and your pets the stress and find a veterinarian that cares somewhere else. Disappointing! read more

Cottage Vet only cares about the money they get from clients, not the animals. They have now held 3 different of my dog's RXs from Chewy as "they don't like using it". I have waited a week each time before calling, when it should take 1-2 days per Chewy, and everytime I call them I am told "we are understaffed and will get to it when we can". They don't get to it and after talking to Kate today, I see that they truly just hate doing it through Chewy. They are losing money from it and they as a result will hold the prescriptions until you have no other choice than to get them from Cottage, where some medication is almost triple the cost. And with all of the people saying this place is affordable, compared to some im sure they are, but in the past year, their prices have gone up like crazy. Their exam is just as high as every other vet in the area, so don't let it fool you. Additionally, Dr. Spiro may be the rudest and most incompetent doctor I have ever met. And let me say, Dr. Hanson has been nothing but amazing and kind and helpful through every appointment, but Spiro, I truly question how he owns this place. With my 11 year old dog, he took one look at his eyes and said, and I quote, "That's just weird. I have no clue what's wrong with his eyes, but that's weird." when I didn't even bring him in for that. Then proceeded to tell me to take him to an eye doctor on the sole recommendation that "they look weird". What? And after asking twice for a recommendation to one, he said "there's only 2" and left the room. On my other dog with a CCL tear, who is extremely scared of the vet, he walks in and grabs her leg with no warning and then throws a muzzle at us and tells us to put it on before he'll look anymore as she barked at him for moving too fast. Then he looks at her and tells us we need X-rays because she's too tense. Well yeah, you scared her badly when you reached for her with no warning and then put a muzzle on her, which she's never had on, I don't know what you expect. After just 5 minutes with Dr. Hanson at our follow up, he confirmed it just by feeling as she was calm enough with him. Everyone but Dr. Hanson is extremely rude here and only cares about making Spiro more money. Do not bring your pet here unless you are prepared to be price gouged, have your dogs manhandled by Spiro, the techs barely even looking at you when speaking to you, and have your outside RXs withheld. My mistake by choosing a non-AAHA accredited-vet. read more

I had to take a puppy I fostered to Dr. Spiro, as it was one of the two veterinarians the foster organization works with. When he came to the room, he acted like the three minutes he spent with the puppy was a hindrance. He angrily fiddled with his computer and barely acknowledged me. He dismissed a concern I had about a cough. I am not sure if he was aggravated that I brought in a foster which meant I wasn't paying, or he was having a bad day, but I am certainly happy I never have to see him again. The staff at the front desk deserve five stars, they were the only redeeming part of the experience. I do not recommend this doctor. read more

I stopped in on Friday with my foster puppy to get some medicine for her gi issues. I couldn't believe how nice everyone on staff was. They all wanted some puppy snuggles, answered all my questions, and sent me on my way with the info and meds we needed to get her tummy back on track. Only in it for the money. My dog suddenly passed away on Friday and I called Cottage first to see about handling the remains. Both my husband and myself recently changed jobs and were between checks. I called the clinic absolutely distraught and I wanted my dogs ashes returned. I had $115 in my bank account and it was less than $30 more than that for my dog to be cremated with her ashes returned. They absolutely refused. They wouldn't work with me one bit. They said they couldn't hold her body either. They said "let me check with the doctor....yea we can't do that because sometimes people don't come back and pay." No empathy. No, "I'm sorry for you loss." We have followed Dr. Spiro from his previous practice to Cottage Veterinary Hospital. In our hearts, he's a lot like family. Here's our story: Two years ago, we rescued Haven, a Vizsla mix. Vizsla's are a very delicate and sensitive breed, psychologically speaking. Ours was defeated and broken when we took her home. We wanted to train her to be an emotional support or service dog, but *I* actually ended up being her emotional support human. She went EVERYWHERE with me, all the time, no matter what. Vizslas are known as "velcro dogs" or dogs who prefer to be stuck to your side, all the time. Haven was either wrapped around my neck like a scarf (literally), in my lap, or at my feet, every single second of every single day. Even still, I was not enough to calm her inner turmoil. As much as we tried various techniques, time, herbs, and medications, this sweet girl was so stressed out from her PTSD that she would develop Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE) a the drop of a hat. It became so frequent that we didn't know when one episode would stop and another would begin. Before we knew it, our sweet girl was bleeding internally, all the time. Medications weren't helping with that, either. One day, Haven let me knew that she couldn't do it anymore, so I carried her into Dr. Spiro. Not much had to be said as we both knew that her quality of life was compromised so much that life wasn't worth living. He cried with me as we euthanized her. Her euthanasia was especially difficult as she reacted to the medications, making the process traumatic for all involved. In those moments, he wasn't our doctor, we weren't his patients; our hearts broke and we weathered it together, as friends. As I said, he's a lot like family. Also worth noting, Dr. Spiro has several squirrels on his clinic property. Between clients or during his downtime, he hangs out with them, feeds them by hand, and nurtures them. This veterinarian is in this because he loves the animals. He goes above and beyond for them (and he keeps it affordable because he tolerates his patient's owners). *smirk* Dr. Spiro is one of the good ones. The really good ones. We are beyond blessed to have him in our lives, in our family. read more

My old dog had a tumor growth on his leg that grew in size in a week. He also appeared to be shivering even though it was a summer. Took him to Cottage Vet as it's been our vet clinic for many years, even with previous vet. They took my dog in, did blood test and told me that he had a malignant tumor and they could remove it surgically for $1,600 plus supplies and due to small skinny size of his leg, there wasn't enough skin to cover the cut and I would have to change bandages several times a day for at least 2 weeks. They charged me nearly $600 for their exam and blood test. I was devastated but wanted another opinion and drove across town to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital. I took him to the emergency room side; the Vet and vet tech were amazing, very soft spoken and understanding. They ran tests and did confirm it was a tumor but it's common with cockapoo at old age. The tumor was enlarged because it was dinged during the grooming shaving the week before and it got infected. That's why it swelled up and grew in size. The vet said they wouldn't be able to operate regardless due to infection as well as not enough meat on his leg. WR gave me antibiotics and within 2 days, the tumor shrank back size of a raisin. No need for surgery. My dog was back to happy normal self. Cottage Vet did the blood test and didn't even catch it that my dog had an infection and he needed antibiotics. Instead, I was pushed an unnecessary and dangerous surgery. They didn't even consider his age and if he'd even handle being under anesthesia. Extremely disappointed how much this practice has gone down. The vet doesn't seem to care about the animals in his care. read more

My dog almost died from the actual doctor here. Not only is the staff bad but the actual doctor is awful. He preformed a normal surgery on my dog - left my dog over night unattended post surgery, and he proceeded to release my dog to me with an infection on the wound cut he made for the surgery. We noticed the infection 12 hours after release called their office to let them know and they couldn't get him in until 4pm that day when it was 9am, but insisted us not to take him to the ER because he was fine and they could fix it(sent pictures to their email to look at while on the phone). When we brought him back in, the doctor proceeded to give our dog drugs and put him under and opened him back up. We get a phone call saying we need to take him to the ER immediately something isn't right. My husband and I had to pick our dog up (he is still on drugs) load him into the car while he is screaming, pay for his "surgery" again ...$500, and then proceed to the ER. This is all happening while my dog is in pain, and they wanted me to pay their doctor for something he fucked up while I was trying to get my dog to the ER.... we took him to advanced Parker medical center where they proceeded to take care of him and get him back to health. They informed us it was 100% Parker animal cottages fault and we should sue them for our medical bills. (Hospitals will never tell you this but they told us we need to look into it) They said they have never had someone pick up their dog on drugs and transport them their selves. I would never recommend this vet and would 100% tell you to go somewhere else. They are not friendly, helpful, or considerate. They are after money and just trying to stay afloat at this point. read more

Do not take your animal to Dr. Spiro!! My dog had to come in due to a lesion he got while hiking. When I took my dog to see him mid exam he told my dog to shut up. He was frustrated and annoyed with my dog barking. I was going to take him else where but due to other vets being booked up we couldn't. The severity of my dogs lesion was to bad and I could not wait another day. My dog had to receive stitches and when I came to pick him up he was whimpering/ crying in pain. I do not believe the proper pain meds were given because when he got neutered at another vet he was not crying or whimpering. Overall I was not happy with my services at Cottage and well not be coming back! read more

My dog bit off part of his tongue this morning. I got him right in at 8am. It's noon and the vet still has NOT seen him! They keep telling me he'll be next and he stopped bleeding! I do not recommend this place nor will I take any of my dogs there again. There are about 4 more vets in town. Try someone else!!!! When I picked him up, they did not wipe the blood off his face and he had to pee for about 10 min . When we got out of there. The vet never spoke to me either. You may want to avoid this place. Cottage Vet owner has a side "rescue" business and the inexperienced staff don't treat the rescue dogs well (observed and heard while there, you may want to ask to be present with the pup during the entire checkup instead of letting them take the dog elsewhere when things aren't going as planned due to their ineptitude). They will also lie as to the pup's condition so that well-meaning and newly-attached adopters will accept a "rescue" that may have hidden special needs so that the costly bills will transfer from the "rescue" organization onto the dog's new owners. We still miss this dog but couldn't take on the unknowns that the "rescue" and their Cottage vet were trying to hide as a part of their secondary market activities of selling puppies. These awesome puppies aren't quite pet store grade but can be still be sold by puppy mill brokers to unethical "rescues" then to you. If a healthy pup, then a true win-win for all. Just be careful if you're noticing things that aren't right from the beginning, then go to your own trusted vet for a fair and informed assessment. Dr. Spiro was very impressionable and considerate to my dogs needs. She is a 5.5lb yorkie with allergies and he put her on a prescription dog food which didn't help her. So instead he put her on a daily prescription and did say there was no need to continue the prescription dog food since it didn't seem to help. He said no need in spending the extra money. I greatly appreciated his consideration about my finances. I must admit I was worried he would want me to continue with the food as they get a payment for prescribing dog food. Also the teeth cleaning is very reasonably priced. When I had my dogs teeth cleaned in the past I couldn't see any improvement but her teeth were beautiful when Dr. Spiro was done. Vet was great, he recommended that my dog get on a Hydrolyzed formula due to his allergies. The reason for the poor review is that the food requires authorization from the vet which they won't submit. I have been trying to get it ordered for days from Chewy, but the vet office won't submit the authorization. I have called both the Cottage Veterinary Hospital and Chewy confirming phone and fax numbers, Chewy has reached out many times with no response. My last call to Cottage, they said that they "prefer" that I use the Purina website. I'm pretty sure they get a financial incentive for referrals to the website and are choosing to not respond to Chewy. I'm really irritated, I liked the vet himself and would have been a loyal client, but the fact they are trying to force me to buy dog food through a specific website that is more expensive, it's completely ridiculous and unethical. read more

I have several dogs. A few years back one was having trouble and they wanted to do all kinds of testing, xrays. Etc. We did it, spent 1500.00 and had NO diagnosis. We have going elsewhere ever since, but then the place we go was closed. Took one in and left with a 300.00 bill and they wanted to do xrays again, we declined. Stay with me now... Two days later another dog gets the same problem. We opted to take him to the local Animal Emergency Specialty Center and we had a 200.00 bill and said that an xray is not necessary. Do what you want, but Cottage will NEVER see my animals again! read more

This place is awesome Dr Spiro is fantastic. The techs are so sweet and remember me and our dogs every time. Dr Spiro dedicates a lot of his time to rescues, that's how we found him. We live in old Littleton, but we will always go to Cottage Vet. He makes sure it's reasonably priced and always gives options. Being newer to the area it's been difficult to find a good vet but I'm so glad we found Dr. Spiro at Cottage Vet. We went in for an exam on my 3 dogs and he was great with my chihuahua who is very nervous and fearful. He answered ALL of the questions that I had and was very honest with what he thought was the best route for us. (we talked about lumps and bumps on my old girl and those pesky knee caps on the chihuahua) We had our dental appointment set up for a week later and they did an amazing job on my 5lb chi and 12yr old corgi. This is huge for me as I get really anxious about putting my critters under anesthesia due to weight and due to age. VERY fair pricing and a lot of options too that put my mind at ease. This clinic has been absolutely terrible. I brought in my basset hound with a very obvious and clear obstruction needing surgery to remove an object out of his stomach. Not only did it take my dog vomiting blood and diarrhea for Spiro to realize that we should do a barium series and possible surgery but they did every single test in the book to make my bill more than it needed to be. The surgery took place last week and he was over prescribed antibiotics and given no pain killers after a very invasive stomach surgery! The poor guy was going through it and once again the front office could care less and wouldn't relay the message to Spiro. NOBODY called me when he was done with surgery to update me on Beau, I had to call every hour to try to talk to Spiro but it seemed like he was to busy to take the time to talk to a customer that had a pet undergo a very serious surgery. When I picked up my dog, nothing on the invoice was mentioned on a phone call, no estimate was given. The charges were incorrect. The communication between the office and vet is terrible and nonexistent. Not to mention, he had dry vomit crusted to his ears and was dirty. I'm absolutely appalled by this "establishment". When I first moved to Parker I asked a friend with cats their vet name, long story short Coral Darling had 1 visit until I was looking for a new vet. I found the Cottage by driving by and I am glad I did, the Techs are great and Dr. Spiro was great with our girl. We sadly lost our girl recently and as hard as this can be the Dr and staff were very comforting. When the time come for us to adopt a new fur baby this will definitely be the only Vet in Parker we will choose. read more
