They refused to check us out because my husband didn't have his actual passport, just a copy. The floor manager was a very rude woman who just said it's not possible without your passport. Why isn't a copy good enough we asked and they have no idea why. They said it's the law yet two and a half months ago my husband was checked out without his passport. So we asked for the store manager who repeated the same as the rude woman. He had no idea why you need to have your actual passport. My husband has the store card and all our information comes up at the checkout, but it didn't matter. We have been there at least 10 times. No wonder the economy here is in trouble! We will not be going back to that supermarket.

Decent selection of foods, a little bit smaller than the Disco market about three blocks away…read more What this place has going for it however is that they will slice deli meats and cut raw beef, pork etc. to order. At the Disco market they are cutting but packaging and not letting you choose what it is you'd like to have. The wine selection here however is not as good as at the Disco. There did appear to be more beers here however. No one seems to have unsweetened, unflavored yogurt!

I don't know what it is, but I do know it is sweet gooey goodness. The taste is sort of like rose-honey with some not-too-sweet berries thrown in. You are not here to get legendary or unique anything. The menu is standard. The execution is fine. We did one of their gigantic two people vegan brunches. We had a zillion things and loved them all. I send out special applause for their orange juice with basil, for their chocolate banana budim (a frosting-less cake similar to a date bread) And their insane potatoes with vegan cheddar and guacamole. Not all everyday restaurants in Buenos Aires have lots of vegan options. Chicama is good that way. Both this writer and his vegetable loving dairy hating wife were happy. Very happy indeed.

I love it when great things open up in my neighborhood…read more Ciudad de la Paz is really heating up these days and La Parra Club is further proof of that. I'd passed it a few times before I really had a reason to enter: artesanal beer night! I just want to point out that beer was all I wanted, but I also left with a big bottle of olive oil and plans to order sandwiches the next day. Oh and a lovely glass of malbec that came with some conversation. La Parra specializes in sourcing from small boutique wineries and has a surprisingly affordable array of wines available. As the owner, Juan Bautista, said: "at least 80% of the wines you can't find in the supermarket." Damn right. They also have Argentine products, everything from high-quality dried pasta, to some of the best olive oil i've ever had (they have a special relationship with an olive oil company that only exports). I also had Gante's artesanal i.p.a., which was really delicious! We'll be back for it. La Parra also does wine tasting on Fridays for $150 pesos, including a picada. For anyone working in the area, they have a sandwich promo from 12-3pm that includes a cheese and meat sammie with a soda for $40. Cheers to one more great spot in the neighborhood!
