When you arbitrarily set up your inventory control workers to take disabled customers who just renewed their membership and spent over $100 on your products and your worker has a conversation as the disabled customer takes a cushion for the back of the cart out of the wrapper, talking to the store worker and laughing about how great it feels, then sits the wrapper - a big circle of cardboard with the tag on it - inside the disabled scooter they're shopping in, and after a couple of hours shopping in the store, heads to checkout to make their purchase - not a word from the cashier about the cushion clearly sticking up from the back of the seat, and the bagger takes each individual item out of the basket, which isn't something the customer figured requires a ton of scrutiny, then puts a lid on the big box containing some toys purchased for the customer's son, and in the back and forth where the bagger is practically waving them in the air while the cups is standing close to the cart, the disabled customer is frantically trying to get him to hide the two toys - forgets entirely about the cushion, which they assume has been rung up by the bagger since every item was removed from the cart, and after being given leave to go, scooters across to the exit where the person checking the merchandise for accuracy could have said they missed the wrapper for the $15 cushion (which the customer didn't notice due to the total overall cost seeming to add up correctly with their horrid math skills!), and instead of noticing the cushion missing from the receipt, decides to check off the receipt after making a comment about the customer's hair color, the disabled customer drove slowly toward the car parked in the disabled stall when two people, a young man and a single icky woman, approach the disabled scooter and ask where the receipt for the cushion is, you grab your receipt, handing it over with a smile because you assume everyone has done their job...then suddenly you're ordered to follow them in your slow scooter to some back room where you can't even fit through the door, they tell you to get up and make you walk into the room; leaving all your purchased items out in the hallway for anyone to take, carrying your purse in as they can see you can barely walk, and as you look confused and ask what happened, you're asked over and over again where the wrapping went (maybe ask the bagger? He threw out a lot of cardboard items of many shapes.) and see annoyed when you ask if you can go then refuse to let you out of the room until you fill out a long paper admitting to taking something without permission, and which you tell them you'd gladly pay for because this is slightly over reactive...I mean, incredibly overreactive... You're repeatedly asked where the wrapper is and you tell them to check the front of the cash registers, which they won't admit they've done or not, and they ask if you threw it out, to which you laugh and say they need to ask the store employee you actually put the cushion on the seat directly next to and had a full conversation with afterward...because they still can't get you to say you ate the wrapping or transported it to another dimension (as you've already requested they look at their security cameras it they didn't believe you) they finally make you sign a piece of paper stating you're not ever allowed in a Costco ever again because if so, you'll be arrested for trespassing. You cannot have your money for the membership you just bought refunded even though they've produced no proof you did anything wrong and the bagger likely chucked it out with the produce boxes.
I got my money reimbursed, you didn't get a penny more than what I actually purchased, and I hope whoever actually found the wrapper in the front of the cashier area felt like a real bully. Because that's what i encountered when I tried to become a member of CostCo using a Living Social voucher. A bunch of bullies who lacked any hard of credible evidence but thought they might harass a disabled woman and not even allow her out to use the restroom because they were going to catch her after she made her $109 purchase of items - stealing a $15 cushion. It's almost so unbelievably sick and ridiculous I would laugh if it hasn't been so traumatizing. If I ever enter Costco property again, I'll be arrested for criminal trespassing. I had to sign that before I could go the the restroom.
Entrapment. False imprisonment. Abuse of a disabled adult. Costco has gone from cheap merchandise to cheap methods of meeting shoplifting quotas. Next time, maybe you should check your cameras before you deny someone their freedoms. read more
