It was doing a good trade whilst we were sat watching the world go by on the windswept promenade. A couple of weekend staff were employed in addition to the main person, which was good to see as you often expect seaside places to be doing less well these days.

An elderly dark haired woman finally asked if she could help (in a begrudgingly kind of way, almost like a what do you want kind of attitude) and when I asked if they had a plastic fork, she turned around and said a sharp, "no sorry" I looked at a young girl behind the counter who looked a little shocked (it's a cafe on a beach, I really doubt they don't have plastic cutlery) so I just left without saying anything. I'll never step foot in that place again & I'm making sure to tell everyone I know, friends & family visiting, to not buy a single thing from there. There's a news agents behind it that have ice cream and such or we will simply bring our own food or go to a different part of the beach. Being kind and offering decent customer service isn't that hard & this lady was just plain unpleasant. She shouldn't be working with people if she has that much of a nasty attitude.

First you go down an alley, only to reveal a secret enclave of an antique store, corner shop, and the tearoom. The square itself is fun to explore and great for photos. Once we sat down in the charming tearoom, we were greeted by a friendly and accommodating server. We ordered the afternoon tea. There was a perfect balance of sweet and savory with yummy finger sandwiches and delectable scones with clotted cream and jam. This is a lovely afternoon tea spot for all ages!

I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!

We also shared a giant endless pot of tea. This place is really a special place, the day's menu is full of charm, and the service is excellent. When I was there, the dining area was quiet with plenty of available seating, definitely not a cramped place! I hope to return sometime, it was a great experience, food and all. I liked it so much I picked up a couple of their shirts to keep the memory.

The wife ordered their "Fisherman" which is pan seared Scottish coley or pollock (for 27 GBP). The battered fish with the chips was more delicately done here and delicious. As an aside I tried several times to find a place here in Glasgow or in Edinburgh that did a "special" fish and chips, that is breaded with crumbs and not battered, but apparently no one does that healthier old school preparation anymore (and I need to inform my old work colleague who hailed from Glasgow and gave me this inside tip that it's not practiced anymore). I also had a Chieftain IPA. The side of peas were dryish and not flavorful and small portioned and not done as well and tasty as I have had in London or Perth, just saying. We also had their sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert and that was good. The fries were mediocre. Server was friendly and attentive. 4 stars overall and a nice local flavor Glasgow outing.
