I have sprained or pulled a muscle in my back 3 times in the past 6 years. I now come to costa first thing. This year it was really bad as I tore the muscle this time. I could not drive far the pain was at a 10. I also moved to the Inland Empire. I went to see a local acupuncturist and they helped "some" but as soon as I could travel I went to go see Michelle and David. She has a great knowledge of where to place the needles and I hardly ever feel them. I get the cupping and electricity too when the pain is really bad. I felt a big difference after the 1st treatment. I followed up with 2 more and my pain is almost all gone. I know my muscles have to grow back. Today I came back for tightness and I am looking forward to waking up pain free. You feel the results the next morning. David in the office is full of information and he is the one that recommended turmeric powder in capsules. He even gave me the brand he likes. It helped a lot with the pain by reducing the inflammation. It's those personal touches. I wish we relied on eastern medicine more. Love this place! It's affordable acupuncture in a community like space with people defined .of by screens or small rooms. I love how laid back it is. I made a 2p appointment, arrived 10 minutes late and no one was on my case. They let me lay with the needles as long as I felt comfortable and until I felt like I was done. Not only am I addicted to Yelp, but I'm also addicted to Groupon! Hehe. Every morning when I wake up, those are two of the sites I check before getting out of bed! One day, there was an offer posted on Groupon for two acupuncture sessions at Costa Acupuncture in Culver City. My neck and shoulders have been bothering me for over a year and nothing helps permanently. I've tried going through my insurance and doing physical therapy but that didn't do much. Boo on Kaiser. I've been getting a few massages from Massage Revolution in Manhattan Beach and those seem to help for a day or two. Finally I decided to try acupuncture, and if that didn't work I was going to try going to a chiropractor. When I saw the deal on Groupon, I did a quick search on Yelp to check out the reviews for Costa and the reviews were actually really good! 4.5 stars out of five, and I didn't see too many fake reviews (those are easy to spot) a lot of the reviews were legit so, I purchased the groupon! Fast forward a few months later, I decided to finally come in. What I like about Costa Acupuncture is that it was super easy to make an appointment online. You can choose the day you want to come in, and the time. And you're able to see what times are already booked. It's better than sending a random form online of when you ideally want to come in only to have them email you later saying the time is taken. When I showed up for my appointment, it only took a few minutes to fill out some paperwork before I was taken to the back room to be worked on. The back room is a big room with many of those massage chairs where you can lay flat on as well as those big plushy massage chairs you'd see at a Brookstone. The room is dark, and when I went in there were already a few patients just resting and relaxing. What happens is, the doctor talks to you about what's going on, then puts the acupuncture needles into you. After the treatment, it is suggested that you lie there with the needles inside for 45 minutes to an hour, but you can lie there as long as you like. The first time I went, I was a little scared of whether or not the needles would hurt. They weren't that bad. The doctor sterilized the sites where he would poke you so you knew where they were going. For me, they were put in my inner ankle area, on my hands, on my shoulders, and on top of my head! It didn't hurt too bad, and after the first treatment as well as the second the pain in my neck and shoulder were gone for most of the night. Unfortunately it came back the next morning. I am a disbeliever of acupuncture but it actually worked for me temporarily. Although I'm sure if I continue the treatment it may work for longer. Not sure yet but I'm glad I came! It made me a believer! Also, Costa is located in a pretty busy shopping mall, and both times I've gone there were not parking spots available. But it was pretty easy to find street parking. read more

I've had a pinched nerve for about a month now between my shoulder and my neck. I was struggling to get out of bed during the first two weeks of it. It got a bit better but I was still dealing with the pain each time I woke up even as it was getting to a month past. I heard of Costa Acupuncture through one of the CrossFit members at my box down the street so I decided to give it a try. I went in last Wednesday and got my first acupuncture treatment. I have to admit this place filled me with zen. Janice helped to fix the problem at the core. After the first session, I felt 35-40% better, which is way faster than what I've been dealing with on a day to day basis. I went in for a second session on Saturday and this time I went in for acupuncture and an add-in of cupping. OH....MY...GOSH... I felt like my life changed right before my eyes. Getting cupping was the best thing I've ever decided to do. In the short 10-15 minutes of it I felt like I was relieved of all pain. Awesome place. I have used them for years. I have probably been here over 90 times. All acupuncturist are great. I have had David, Michelle, and Indian woman doctor name.l?. Paying by Credit card, it costs $40, by cash is $35. Parking hasn't been an issue but there is a new apartment complex next door. David has always treated me great. There is a dry sauna. They offer cupping. There never has been an issue. David has stayed later when he can. Definitely call ahead to confirm their times. The community layout is partitions with mostly tables. Heat lamps. Janice is a MIRACLE WORKER. I have an autoimmune disease, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, to be exact. Within minutes of receiving acupuncture from Janice, I feel my body (and brain) relax and my anxiety lessens. Anyone who knows about autoimmune illnesses, knows they are extremely difficult conditions to treat. When I experience what I call a "flare up," which includes extreme anxiety and fatigue, I know Janice is the only one who can help me. I was very fortunate to find this place near my apartment. I recently decided I really need some form of self-care considering the amount of work I do on a daily basis. I really missed my acupuncture days, but could not go back to my old acupuncturist because I no longer have Kaiser healthcare. So I found this place on yelp and decided to try it out. $30 for students. Done. I made an appointment with Devaunshi Tailor. She's such an amazing woman! Beautiful, thoughtful and very easy to talk to. I've been to her a few times now and she does an excellent job every time. I typically get the needles for a bit and then cupping after that. Anyway, they don't rush you here and they are very attentive. I am aiming for once a week with Devaunshi as I can already feel the healing effects of the treatment. You have to check this place out! And if you are fearful of needles and have never been, do not let it stop you! It's nothing like getting a shot (how some of my friends think of it and refuse to go because of it). I love coming to Costa! Coming here was the first time I ever did acupuncture and cupping and it has been such an amazing experience. The first (and maybe second) time I came I had David and he was great and explained a lot about the process to me but the third time I had Michelle and I have seen her ever since. On the third visit I mentioned some lower back aches that I usually don't have and she asked me if I was about to start my period. I realized I was in a couple of days and she asked me if i ever get cramps. I typically do on the 2nd day where I like to remain in a ball with a heating pad but ever since that session, my periods have honestly been great (in conjunction with an herbal supplement from Elix). Now I make a plan to see her right before or right at the start on my cycle (she's only there Tuesdays and Fridays) and the last 4 months have been the best periods I have ever had, it's almost like it's barely there! On top of that once a month appointment, I try to go in a second time in between for general muscle tension in my upper back/neck from working out (and bad posture, honestly) as well as some periformis pain I had on my left side which I haven't felt in a couple of months now. I tell my bf that Michelle is a "magician" and how great I feel after acupuncture and cupping with her and he finally saw her this week for his allergies/asthma, some warts on his thumb that she is ordering an oil for him for, and a throat issue he sometimes experiences when eating red meat. He's looking forward to seeing the results and agrees with me that she has a great calming presence and is super knowledgable. Please realize first off that these people have priced their services and herbs such that the other 99% can enjoy acupuncture on a regular basis should they so choose. So it is not deluxe accommodations. That said, the space where you will be treated is calming and peaceful and perfectly fine. The walls do not go all the way up, so everyone, including you please, speaks in calming, peaceful, low tones and that is just fine. There is the typical nice calming music playing throughout. I am a "senior" (AAAGGGHHHH!) and paid cash, so my first visit was I believe $35 since they spend a lot of time taking your history. Subsequent visits will be $30 cash for me I believe. My bottle of herbs was $11!!! I had previously been going to one of the schools in the Santa Monica area because it was supposedly a good deal, however, the herbs were costing me a fortune. The people here seem very friendly and competent. In fact, Michele diagnosed something that a western Doctor could have and should have diagnosed, and she did it by looking at my tongue, then suggested an over the counter product which I had used years and years ago for the same problem. Little did I realize the problem had returned, and her diagnosis and suggested supplement recommendation were spot on. I am almost afraid to recommend this place so highly! My friend with impeccable judgement put me onto this office. Please don't crowd me out. And be prepared, it is in a somewhat low-rent strip mall. Welcome to LA! read more

I visited Costa on 6/7/18 with David Johnson. This was my first time doing acupuncture and I wasn't really nervous, but more weary of the outcome for my personal health. I have been struggling the last few months with my health. I have seen so many doctors and have been feeling like absolute trash. It has been a gruesome time for me. Starters, the pricing is wonderful. $40 for the treatment and $10 for cupping. After your first visit, it's $5 more to use card so bring cash. David was more than helpful. He was kind, caring, educated, and humorous. He really took the time to help me take care of my body. I have been following his recommended and I am very happy with all of his advised techniques thus far. He made me feel very comfortable for both the acupuncture and the cupping. Neither of which hurt. I left there feeling like I had a 2 hour massage, I was so relaxed. It's been a few days, and I haven't felt this wonderful for months. I have already booked my next appointment. Side note: this is not a fancy LA experience. It's definitely clean and an enjoyable atmosphere, but no extra fuss. Michelle Wong deserves 10 stars for her amazing expertise! I was MISERABLE for 2 months, waking up 20-30 times per night due to extreme temperature changes ('hot flashes'). Well, Michelle got me back to 100% normal after 2 sessions and 3 days of supplements. After 1 session, the intensity and frequency decreased about 50%. And after the 2nd session and taking the supplement she prescribed, I was cured! I continue to take the supplement, twice a day. I went upon my son's recommendation while I was visiting LA. I had neck and shoulder pain and was also chest mucosy. I went two days in a row. Day one acupuncture - my first ever! It didn't hurt :) Day two accu plus cupping. Michelle explained clearly the body/mind/emotions connections, and suggested chinese herbs as well. I like to understand what is going on in my body and I learned a lot. i.e. grief affects the lungs. Bingo. I had lost someone very dear to me 2 months prior. I flew home the next day back to DC. I love Costa Acupuncture! I see Carol regularly and she is one of the best acupuncture practitioners I've been to, and I really have been to a few. She listens, takes notes and keeps track of where the needles are placed. That way the next time you visit she can build upon what has already been done. I am able to rest well while I am there. At my very first treatment I slept for an hour! There is soothing meditation music playing and some of the beds are heated or there are heat lamps available. Perfect for a nap! I've only been here once, but I'm looking forward to going back again! Bought a Groupon voucher for 2 sessions...what a great deal. The receptionist was real friendly and nice. I was told to removed my shoes because it was a community healing center and that way people can rest without being disturbed by the clicking of my heels. The doctor asked me what were some of my major problem areas and I had mentioned my back pain and anxiety, also the fact that I didn't fee "balanced". I did about 45 minutes of acupuncture while lying down, and 15 minutes of cupping....which was one of the most amazing experiences I've had. The minute the last cup was placed on my back, I felt a load of tension leave my body, it was an immediate detox...leaving me feeling uplifted and refreshed. I have had acupuncture for $150 and $100 and I will tell you this is in he same league for only $40. This is a natural homeopathic way of de-stressing.
